clearly it is a legitimate email

The best way to tell is Paypal never spells things correctly.. the more misspelled words, the more authentic the email. Also, Paypal will never direct you to paypal.com The sites that have different names or just an IP number are the real sites. In fact, Paypal.com is just a decoy site to fool people into giving up their personal information. |

The scammer presumably spends much time to hack a server, make a fake site, send the phish email, etc ... and yet the scammer doesn't take an extra few seconds to run spell check.

I can't believe this is the first one you've gotten.

I've gotten many of those at nearly e-mail address I have. I also get them from banks I've never heard of. It's called "phishing" and most financial institutions have addresses you can report it. Paypal's is [email protected] just forward the e-mail to them to help them combat it.

Paypal DO occasionally email updates, but they'll never send an email requesting login details. |

Just never login from a link in the email. If you are suspecting your account is really suspended, go to paypal.com by typing it in the browser...
