It's not legit let me go email you as paypal so you can send the info to me....

Seriouly though email will not send you shit like that always go direvtly to the site and log in

killshot 04-03-2005 05:59 AM

clearly it is a legitimate email

The best way to tell is
Paypal never spells things correctly.. the more misspelled words, the more authentic the email.

Also, Paypal will never direct you to paypal.com
The sites that have different names or just an IP number are the real sites.
In fact, Paypal.com is just a decoy site to fool people into giving up their personal information.

Q man 04-03-2005 06:43 AM

yeah thought so too that it is a scam. thanks for the info.

Ron Bennett 04-03-2005 07:01 AM

The scammer presumably spends much time to hack a server, make a fake site, send the phish email, etc ... and yet the scammer doesn't take an extra few seconds to run spell check.

I've gotten I have no clue how many of that kind of paypal email ... the fun part is that theyre sent to an email I don't use for paypal :)

mardigras 04-03-2005 07:44 AM

I can't believe this is the first one you've gotten.
I've gotten many of those at nearly e-mail address I have. I also get them from banks I've never heard of.

It's called "phishing" and most financial institutions have addresses you can report it. Paypal's is [email protected] just forward the e-mail to them to help them combat it.

Satisfaction 04-03-2005 08:00 AM

nope cant say that i have..

spideriux 04-03-2005 08:31 AM

I don't have PayPal, LOL :)

That's how I mentally filter those messages. I use a dedicated email address for paypal (which has never been listed anywhere), the scam emails always arrive addressed to other emails I have littered around the web.

Paypal DO occasionally email updates, but they'll never send an email requesting login details.

woj 04-03-2005 03:49 PM

Just never login from a link in the email. If you are suspecting your account is really suspended, go to paypal.com by typing it in the browser...

Manowar 04-03-2005 03:50 PM

it's phishing

how do you know they are russians? You obviously have some info or something. I'm reporting your domain name contact info to FBI that does the investigation to assist them.

Probably the best advice for anyone that isn't smart about these sort of things.

Also like already mentioned Paypal will use your full name when contacting you.
