Which CC processing with an Internet Merchant Account?

I have a non-adult site selling products. We have an internet merchant account and use goemerchant.com as our credit card processing company. But recently we got quite several chargeback and seems their fraud control isn't very good. Could anyone suggest any good company do credit card process? (I know iBill does, but I want to know more options).

One more question about Address Verification System: if someone uses a stolen credit card number of an US owner and inputs a foreign bill address, will AVS check if the card number and address match? This is really happened to us and goemerchant.com approved that transaction! Anyone has any comment on it?

Thank you very much for any input!

CCBill owns a non-adult company called http://vscrub.com which is a fraud protection and gateway solution -- We partner with one of the larger issuing banks on this as well.

If you want to take a look at the site and email me - [email protected] - any questions you might have, feel free

And to answer your question, no. That transaction should have been declined, most likely on more than just address verification.

I reccomend going with your own merchant account then get authorize.net and your set. I use them for like 10 sites and serves them all. 1.49% service fee , 20 cents per transaction and 10.00 billing fee...

get your reseller license, then opena dba account at a bank.... apply for merchant account and your good to go!

they range from 1.99 - 3.5% usually and setup range from 150 - 400.00 1 time fee but worth it!

Well... I don't know the specifics of their system... but if your gateway has AVS verification enabled, it would indeed verify the information provided with the information the bank has on file. Unfortunately, AVS is not universally supported... although most banks in the US, Canada, and the UK do support it.

You'll also want to look for a gateway that supports the newer CVV2 verification. The CVV code is the extra 3 digits on the back of your card. As with AVS, this is not universally supported.

One more thing, most fraud scrubbing systems should be able to lookup the IP Address the end-user is connecting from and make sure it is from the same country as the card it is being presented with.

Best of Luck

Thank you guys for your replies.

For the AVS, we got an AVS response code U (Address information is unavailable), but the tranaction still was approved. And some transaction had code S (Service not supported by issuer). Seems I didn't get any fraud protection. The recent chargebacks made the store lost almost $1000.

I am not the store owner, I am just working on the website. Hopefully that choosing goemerchant.com wasn't my decision. It was chosen before I am here. I don't know much about the merchant account, so I don't know how complicated it would be to do what keev suggested (it does sound complicate). Here I still have more questions:
What's the difference between using an online gateway and "going with my own merchant account"? Is there any advantage using online gateway? What kind of services they would or should provide? Normally how the fraud protection is executed? How do they handle the foreign order (out of USA)?How much is the fee for the online gateway?

You can consider me as a total newbie. I may even asked the wrong question. So please any explanation, suggestion would be very appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

The gateway is simply the service that actually manages the transactions between the consumers card bank and the merchants account bank --

I think you are thinking of third party, where you have no merchant account and use someone else's at a higher rate per transaction --

I knew I would confuse everyone and myself We do have a merchant account. Just seems the 3rd party billing system is easier for me to understand

All I want to know is what's the best way to prevent online fraud and chargeback. Thanks.

Ok.... That really depends on what features are available from your gateway provider.

Assuming your using your own merchant account... a good gateway provider will let you customize your fraud scrubbing. For instance, you could specify that you'd like to accept an AVS:Y, but decline an AVS:U. These specifications can be made for CVV2 codes as well.

Another good fraud scrubbing technique is making your customer specify their bank's name, and if it's not right -- decline their transaction Again... a good gateway will offer this as an option and allow you to choose whether or not you want to use it.

If you don't have your own merchant account, and are using a 3rd party billing service's merchant account... you really won't have any control over the fraud scrubbing... and, as KimmyKim said, you'll be paying a higher per transaction fee.

How has your experience been with NetBilling?

How is their security?
Customer service?
Technical support?
Custom requirements?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

If they are only charging you that you would be lucky.

On the other hand if it will totally depend on what they are saying the charge is for.

I found my own answer... thought others may want to know.

Visa charges an initial $1000 "high-risk " fee for adult SUBSCRIPTION websites for the first year. Additional years are billed at $300.

I've heard the same story from two banks.

Hi,

3 of the 4 adult friendly domestic banks we work with charge $500 for the high risk fee. Humbolt is the highset at $750 for the first year. That is the brunt of the investment for you as we will not charge any setup fees if you say you came from GFY or switch from another processor.

hey currently I use a merchant account in which we do all our own billing for our adult, we are charged 1.25%, and is the only fee that we incur. My billing system was done in house.

Can anyone tell me what banks you guys have talked to about setting up a merchant account, because a $1000 visa fee is very cheap, and any other questions you want answered about merchant accounts feel free to ask, since ive been envolved in doing my own processing for the past year, without using a third party processor

Magicnuts,

We typically send merchants to: Humboldt Bank, Cardservice, National Bank of the Redwoods and a couple of others. That is great that you have developed your own system. Do you have proper fraud scrubbing in place? Give me a call to talk about your integration and if we can compliment, automate and improve your setup.

Keev,

Give me call or email your contact information. I would like to show you a comparison between Netbilling and Authorize.net.

(661)252-2456 x1002
