Pat Buchanan sums up modern America beautifully here:

" The Dow is falling, the dollar is sinking, our dependency on imported oil is growing, our country goes billions deeper into debt every day, and U.S. forces are stretched to the limit containing a medium-sized insurgency in a medium-sized Arab country.

An American empire? Who are we kidding?"

I think Battuss has a crush on the USA. Of all the countries listed on that chart, he decides to post about the States... as usual.

Don't you have something better to chat about? You live in Amsterdam for Christs sake. Go get a hooker!

Im not saying America is a shithole. Its a nice country, there are for sure some cities i could live in. But what im trying to say here is the only country where the people act like they live in the fucking very best country in the world by far is the US. A lot of Americans think they rest of the world are a bunch of 3rd world countries where freedom doesnt excist.

Not one other group of people uses the word freedom as much as Americans. America simply isnt the only country where people are free and certainly not the most free country in the world yet most people think it is. At least i can admit America is a great country with some very nice places. Most Americans wont say anything similar ever in their lifetime about other countries.

What? And where do you get this information?

Everybody I have ever known has had the desire to do some world traveling, check out other countries and see what they're about, view the beautiful sights they see in pictures and learn more about what they read in history books.

I don't know one person that wouldn't love to visit Europe. Unfortunately, its very expensive to travel to Europe and other far away countries, especially if you have a family. In Europe, you have many first world neighbors to visit cheaply. My friends went to Germany this summer and were able to explore 3 different countries and soak up 3 different cultures, all within 2 weeks.

You can't do that here. Sometimes it seems like people don't realize how big the United States is. We can't just hop on a bus or train and tour 3 countries in a day. Hop on a bus, drive for a day and you're still in the United States! The same people, the same culture.

We can go up to Canada, but come on, even though we like to bitch at them and vice-versa, we really aren't that much different. Our other neighbor is Mexico. Joy. Mexico isn't a bad place, but really, thats ALL we have.

To say "Most Americans wont say anything similar ever in their lifetime about other countries" is pretty silly. To say "most Americans would like to visit other countries in their lifetime but can't always afford it" would be more accurate.

I am not sure I have ever agreed with you before, but you are right. Add the fact most Citizens of the USA never leave the USA, not even to Canada or Mexico the two other North American countries so they have no idea what anything else in the world even looks like.

look closely, you'll see that US residents travel to other countries in slightly less numbers that the entire world's population travels to America.

considering the small % of the worlds population the US makes up, your silly statements are proven false.

America hating comes in many shapes and forms, even on chat boards.

i dont think you get a very unbiased opinion of americans by watching cnn or observing americans on gfy

You should really try viewing americans yourself instead of falling into the same euro-propoganda that everyone has heard for years.

With all respect you dont know "most americans" so its prob not the best idea to speak for them.

Of course americans use the word freedom often, its the most important part of being an american and its also what makes u.s.a. one of the countries with the highest amount of freedoms humans enjoy.

Being proud of your country is an asset .

Prob not the best places to get a valid opinion on "most americans" but at least you have been here.

I certainly would not comment what the people of one country are like or how they enjoy freedom without actually having been there.

I think the mere fact that people would rather discuss the benefits and downside of being an american , instead of mentioning a single thing about their own country speaks VOLUMES.

I was just having this discussion with someone the other night and I was the first to admit that in general, most Americans don't give a fuck what the rest of the world thinks about us, lol. This person was mentioning how outraged and dumbfounded his country and the rest of the world was about our elections, etc. I know that to be true, and of course some people do care, but I also know that most here haven't been losing any sleep about it. But regardless, I think most Americans do like to travel and see/experience other cultures.

I think you have to consider our geography. Of course Europeans are going to travel to more countries, experience more cultures, speak more languages, and be more aware of other nations. Look at the size and proximity of many of the European nations. If every time I got in my car or hopped a quick flight to Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, etc., I crossed over into a completely different culture and language, or if every time someone in Cali went to Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, they were doing the same, I'm sure we'd be much more culturally aware.

Likewise, if every European nation was required to take a flight across the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean to travel, I guarantee you the majority would never experience any life outside their own country. I think it's basic logistics and economics. Plus, many of you guys grow up bilingual and are taught other languages in school from the get go. For the most part, it's not required here because we have no reason/need for it. However, I think that is also true with most English speaking nations.

I have traveled through Europe and various other places. Even the places that I wasn't exactly wild about, were still worth visiting for the experience alone. I'm sure I could live in another country. However, I'd be a liar if I said it *really* concerned me or caused me worry, as far as what the rest of the world is thinking about us. Maybe that does make me an ass, afterall.

look closely, you'll see that US residents travel to other countries in slightly less numbers that the entire world's population travels to America.

considering the small % of the worlds population the US makes up, your silly statements are proven false.

America hating comes in many shapes and forms, even on chat boards.
If you can't see the failure of your reasoning there I feel sorry for you. Your argument doesn't hold up to basic scrutiny.

Think hard about what you said for 10 minutes, and what point you were trying to make. If you honestly can't figure out why your post was a complete failure at making your point I'll explain it slowly for you.

I think the mere fact that people would rather discuss the benefits and downside of being an american , instead of mentioning a single thing about their own country speaks VOLUMES.
Exactly right. I don't think you're bashing or anything but the constant reminders from Europeans on the board of how much we suck, or how much we're going down hill gets a little old. Every country in the world has issues. It's true that the US is going through some tough and challenging times and they are quite public. You guys are supposed to be our friends and allies. Sometimes it feels like your revel in our misfortune a little much.

Good post and i know what you mean and i agree with you. I dont have a problem with America, i have a problem with the misplaced arrogance a lot of people in your country have. The were allmighty, were the most free, were the best etc attitude. And especially coming from those people who havent even seen another country. I bet you understand this frustrates me. America was founded by Europeans, by people from my country for example. In general Europeans dont have that arrogance, i wonder where and when it wrong on your side of the planet...and why.

Would this be similar to those that claim "most Americans wont say anything similar ever in their lifetime about other countries."

Hmm... yep, they sound like the same breed of people. Those that make generalizations hating on others that make generalizations.

Am I the only one who's getting a chuckle out of this?
