you should be comparing salaries to the US and Croatia, and then try to draw conclusions.. and you can't compare eastern and western european countries  how can can you compare a country like Croatia to the US which is not even in EU? |

From my understanding, the switch over to the Euro highly increased prices as well. For example in Italy what was once 1 lira was now 2 euro....but peoples paychecks stayed the same....so basically doubling the cost of goods without any increased salary to match.
I think it's more expensive to live in most of Europe compared to the U.S. |

Ok since this thread switched from the original topic I will start bitching too.
A Chrysler 300 cost here 3 times more expensive (in the Netherlands) than as it cost in the USA. Before I even can buy this car I first have to earn much more money because I pay a shit load on taxes on every single euro. So when I finally want to drive I have to pay a shit load on money for gas, insurrance, road taxes, fines etc etc. I receommend all Americans who have never been to Europe not to answer in a thread like this if you don't know what the hell you are talking about. Europe is expensive and the $ has already been devaluated enough. I like the US, please don't be angry to me

The EU is VERY expensive, the average standard of living is lower compared to costs, and the average unemployment rate is much higher than the US (it's actually DUOBLE in Germany what it is here!). With the trillions of dollars lost from 9/11, the US tresury has worked had to weaken the dollar to bring back our economy. It has helped US exporters and foreign investmentsin US business in a BIG way, but unfortunately this has been very detrimental to the EU, and the big banking organizations in Europe are trying really hard to weaken the euro right now.

I guess i would be in shock, when I was in Europe, (in the Army) in the pay line we could change our $$ into marks, 4 marks =$1.00... downtown it was 3.50 to 3.80 marks.
