I have lived for almost half my life outside the US, and what you are saying is true. The EU is VERY expensive, the average standard of living is lower compared to costs, and the average unemployment rate is much higher than the US (it's actually DUOBLE in Germany what it is here!).
With the trillions of dollars lost from 9/11, the US tresury has worked had to weaken the dollar to bring back our economy. It has helped US exporters and foreign investmentsin US business in a BIG way, but unfortunately this has been very detrimental to the EU, and the big banking organizations in Europe are trying really hard to weaken the euro right now.
