Let me pose a thought, hopefully this can garner a decent discussion.

Terrorism lives through the media: TV cameras, newspapers, and the Internet. A terrorist's main objectives all circle around one central theme, which is getting their political message out to the public. Using TV cameras and now the Internet, they behead innocent people and hold hundreds of men, women, and children hostage in public schools. Terrorism needs the media in order for them to survive.

Think of it this way, in America, how does an average joe schmoe get his ass in the news? The reality is that it's nearly impossible; news stations want the juiciest, dirtiest, most moving, and most shocking material they can get their hands on. Joe Schmoe can't provide that. Terrorism can, on the other hand. This brings me to my final point.

Since the blood of terrorism flows through the media of it's host, could we, as the targets, simply ignore them entirely? Theoretically it would confuse the fuck out of them; they wouldn't know what to do. If we, from a media standpoint, worked together so that all our media outlets, Fox News, CNN, BBC, etc, refused to air or even speak of any act of terrorism, wouldn't that stop it altogether? Note that our militaries would still be acting just as strong to kill them off; I only suggest cutting them off completely from a media standpoint.

Both Kerry and Bush believe strongly that terrorism will always be constant, that new terrorists will regroup and keep coming to replace the old ones. I whole-heartedly agree with both of them. What my argument does though, is provide a hope, at least in my mind, that terrorism can be defeated.

An argument isn't an argument unless you talk about the downfalls, however. This path would be extremely hard, especially at the start. Terrorism levels would probably PEAK as soon as they realized what our strategy was. I predict that peak because they'd basically be fighting for their own existence; since they feed of our media. If and when Al Jazeera becomes part of the ComCast basic cable package, I think this has a chance at working.

Hopefully this will get a good discussion going, and try to leave out the bipartisan shit; keep this thing focused.

- The 1st Ammendment protects Freedom Of The Press

- If one news outlet doesn't cover it (or even if all the outlets you mentioned didn't cover it) someone else would, and the public will go there for information instead.

Your idea is very similar to the 'voluntarily get rid of TGPs and all the free porn so paysites make more money' idea that gets randomly posted here every so often. Noone is going to be the first to pull down their galleries. And even if everyone on GFY did, there would always be others ready to take over that market share.

I do think 9/11 should have been aired. I do agree with you that this process would be nearly impossible to do; no one has the balls to stand up and be the first one. All i'm saying is that from now on, simply ignore their claims and I bet a solution could be derived.

Every American news organization is biased and heavily pro-America, not because the journalists are unwilling to do their jobs, but because the networks cannot afford to offend the advertisers. I believe we need independent news organizations, with funding coming neither from sponsers nor the government. The only way I see this as economically feasible is as a premium channel, similar to HBO. (who produce a better quality product for the same reasons)

In the meantime, get on the net and read a variety of papers from around the world.
