It is your fault - you said yourself at first you tried to speed up and go in front of him before the merge was done. He had the right - you were supposed to slow down and merge with traffic, not try to cut them off.

dude, right of ways go out the window when hes *intentionally* blocking you in. it wasnt like i was trying to merge into his lane gracefully or try to cut him off, he was intentionally blocking me in.

he came from BEHIND me, he WAS in the same lane as me, scooted up to the side of me, and just boxed me in between him and the sidewalk.


edit: and i have no idea why the fuck he did this either, i had just left a chinese restaurant getting food and hadnt gone more than 150 feet to the light and i know i didnt offend anyone since there wasnt anyone there until about 30seconds after id already stopped at the light.

***I*** had the right of way. I was FIRST in line at the light, and the light for the lane that merges (the one i was in) turns green FIRST, before the light for the lanes who are not merging.

The guy came from behind me, and cut over the solid white line, and just started blocking me in.

And "couldn't see the light" because you were driving too close to the vehicle in front of you is so not a defense. Whatever transpired before then is irrelevant. You're guilty. Tell the whole story to the judge and he'll ask the cop to come up with some more charges.

2nd of all, your driving behind a big truck about a car lengths behind him, you cant see top because the roof of the truck is in the way. the guy is going full steam, and doesnt show any signs of slowing down and goes through an intersection.

1) the light is green, and im going to go thru this intersection just as I have done thousands of intersections before when the light was green as I was crossing it.

The only thing on my mind was getting to the store to buy a soda to drink with my chinese food.

I saw a truck pull up next to me and slow down and box me in at the upcoming lane end, so i decide to do what anyone would do, is speed up.

What you dont expect to happen is the truck speeding up with you and not letting you pass him when hes the one who put you in that situation in the first place.

I dont know how the fuck you canadians drive but a solid white line means NO passing, for this exact fucking reason of blocking someone in.

Plead not guilty. Maybe he won't show up to court. The one time I went to court for a ticket the cop didn't show. If he shows just plead your case, the worst that can happen is you end up paying for it. If you think all that is too much of a hassle, then pay the ticket and accept the points, but you'll probably have to goto driving school or something, not sure how things work in your state.

That failure of planning is what you did wrong. Intent doesn't matter, if you don't plan for things like lights changing, you messed up.

I understand you couldn't see the light, and why you couldn't see it, obscured lights happen to everyone, especially with semis. But that means you better be prepared to stop at the light if needed when you can see it.

I'll admit, I've made the same mistake a couple times. But it *is* a mistake, no use defending it. I think the general idea of a ticket is to say "drive more carefully," and if you keep making mistakes your license is revoked. So it seems perfectly reasonable to me that you got a ticket.

Lesson: drive more carefully! :-)
