Anyone here ever been on foodstamps?

I haven't but I was a grocery store cashier when I was in school and I saw a lot of food stamps. I always had to explain to people that they couldn't use them for toys, cooked food, or anything besides groceries.

You could tell the actual poor people from the scammers pretty easily. Poor people would buy milk, bread, canned goods, meat, cheese, etc. Assholes stealing from the government would use their vouchers on Coke, candy, and junk food, not exactly necessities that tax money should be paying for.

I like the WIC program here in Indiana better. Single moms and poor moms get vouchers that can only be used for certain necessities like milk, baby formula, cereal, juice, etc. They can't even cash in for cereal that's full of sugar...it has to be a halfway healthy cereal.

Boyfriend is a drug dealer with no official income is my guess. Those are the ones that spend their food stamps on junk food and then have $300 cash to spend on other shit.

I've heard urban legends about things like this, but haven't actually seen it first hand
do you have pics of these welfare warriors stepping out of their high end cars with a fistful of foodstamps?

I'm on food stamps, but I keep all of my income recorded and I don't make enough to endanger my status. I'm legally disabled (with lupus) and my medical and living expenses are enough to make my income (less than a thousand a month, including my site income and my social security) insignificant. When it's time to prove my income, I take *all* of my paperwork and documents in, because there may come a time when I'm not well enough to do internet work and I don't want to risk messing up my status. On the other hand, if I ever end up making enough online to pay my medical and living expenses, then I will be the first person down at the office requesting that I be taken off any assistance programs.

Once somebody turned me in as 'fraudulent' because I drive a 1996 Taurus (not an Audi, not a Benz... a Taurus). I had to go through a ton of paperwork and inspections just because some asshole thought my car was too nice for a disabled person, and the only reason I have it is because my parents bought it for me (used) a number of years ago so I would have reliable transportation to visit them and get to the doctor at all hours.

People say this all the time, but I have NEVER seen this happen. I was behind some woman the other day who paid with food stamps and she had a bunch of kids with her and looked like she actually needed them. I think if you saw that, it is the rare exception and not the rule.

The WIC program sounds like its putting the money where young children need it the most.

Speaking of... make *sure* you have a good retirement program if you live in the U.S., because Social Security frequently pays less than you think, and Medicare does not offer many benefits beyond a portion of your doctor's visits. You may think that you're healthy and have a long time to save for your retirement, but it never hurts to start preparing now. Also, if you have credit cards with a balance it is totally worth it to pay a little extra for the disability coverage... I wish I had done that (but hindsight is 20/20, right?).

yup, the WIC program is very helpful.

We had to use it with our first kid when I got laid off and it was a huge help for the basics until I landed a new job. We didn't end up needing it for long, but it was a huge help and I figured I paid into the system for years, so taking a little out of the system wasn't a bad thing.

I've done some volunteer work at the local welfare office and always hear bullshit stories about people in Benz' using fooddstamps, but haven't actually seen it with my own eyes. Most are going to the cards now and what would sometimes happen with the old paper foodstamps is they became tender for buying drugs, guns, etc. Someone would take $200 in foodstamps and get $100-150 in cash. The cards have cut down on this a lot. So there are some problems with the foodstamp program, but it does help a lot of people in need....and it doesn't buy them a mercedes ;-)

Yeah, you're right. A poor person doesn't deserve a candybar or caffiene but they do deserve to have you analyzing their food intake.

When I was a kid we were on food stamps for awhile. My mom would drive to a town half an hour away so assholes like you in our small town wouldn't know about it. Not exactly a necessity that a poor person should be paying for, all that extra gas, time away from home after working 12 hours at a fucking drive-in burger joint . . . but people like you make it necessary.

All the toys, trips, clothes, gameboys, televisions, and extra shit the upper middle class and higher showers on their children aren't necessities either -- but those same assholes will sit around griping about where the little bit of tax money they pay goes and voting to cut programs like free lunches etc. that help kids. Ugh.

Happens all the time. I know people who have bought food stamps from these people for 50% in cash several times. They ride to the store with em and pick out the food. Wheeeeeeeee

I have never been on assistance of any sort, refused to do it even though I'm sure I would have qualified. Hard times change your perspective on things. While I do not think that foodstamps should be able to be used for a ton of crap, I also believe every kid, even poor ones need to feel like other kids and I see nothing wrong with a bag of chips or a chocolate bar here and there. It is my belief that the lack of such small "luxuries" ends up building up frustration and hatred in children.

I guess that would suck if I go on food stamps at any time. I don't drink milk, I don't eat much healthly food, only pre cooked food. Cereal, don't really eat it, since I don't really like milk.

I mean, to each his own. And if I go on food stamps, I should be able to buy any fucking food I want, since I've been putting a shit load of money for the fucking stupid illegal immigrants that get my tax money by welfare & food stamps! If anything, we need to take every illegal and take them off of the welfare & food stamps. That would give the legals a little more food stamps!

And there is nothing wrong with getting a bag of chips, common, need a treat every once in a while. All that health food shit, can really fuck you up!

I agree.. If i was paying for someone's meals they sure as hell better be eating healthy, otherwise when their health fails they'll just be sucking more money out of the system.

I'm in Canada though, so it's probably a bigger concern here because of our free health care.

It really don't have nothing to do with getting a fucking handout. Sometimes when you're down, you're just down. Plain and simple. It's high and mighty fuckers that think getting a handout is the same as begging that I can't stand.

when i left home, i went on welfare for a couple months so i could finish school.. once that was done, i worked full time to save for college

$520 a month is almost impossible to live on..

I wish it was free, but a huge amount of our personal income tax goes towards supporting our health care system. It's definitely not the same quality of health care that we were seeing a decade or two ago, but I wouldn't trade it in for a fully privatized system.

Ugh.
Actually, now that I've given it some more though, I've decided I agree with you. Poor people shouldn't have children. We need to get some laws on the books that say any poor people that have children will be locked in prison and their babies drowned in a river somewhere. Problem solved.

that would be great. look at all the poor folks popping out kids just for that government handout. Single mother, 27 with 6 kids living 'large' for that demographic sector, in a decent rented home with section 8 footing the bill, food stamps handling the food, and the minimum wage income goes to fund the crack habit.

And I assume we don't have to worry about you and lurker breeding because you're too busy stroking and sucking each other off -- what a relief!

Old Dirty Bastard picked up his stamps once on MTV. This isn't unheard of.

I totally agree with you.. I'd rather have a system that gets abused somewhat then no system at all. We dont even have foodstamps up here.. people just get money.
