Well when i was 15-16 I smoked cigarettes all the time, everytime I drank. I smoked probably a pack a week.

I said "I wont get addicted"

Guess what? Im not fucking addicted and havent smoked a cigarette in months and havent smoked a whole pack in years. Just because you start smoking every once in a while doesnt mean you will start chain smoking.

Why were you not concerned with the drinking? Specially since he is underage.

Whoever made that law in the US should be shot. You can go to strip clubs, do pretty much anything, but can't drink until you're 21?
In many civilized European countries legal drinking age is 16, and no one's crying because of that.

So what's the problem with drinking at 19?... even if its against the idiotic law? As long as you don't go overboard it's all good.

Health risks aside.... do the math on the amount of money it'll take.

If he does get hooked, and ends up smoking even half a pack a day.. that's 365/2 = 182.5

Now, smoke prices vary from place to place... but let's say an even $5 a pack for the sake of making this easy. It'll be $20 a pack within 10 years I'm sure though.

Anyway, $182.5 x $5 a day = $912.50

Imagine spending a grand on smoking each year... just to waste away your health.

And that's a best case scenario. Chances are, if you're hooked... it'll be more than half a pack, and $5 is cheap....

So save the money... put it towards something more useful.

have him smoke 6-7 cigarettes in a row, if he still wants one after that, make him smoke 7 more until he pukes, he'll never want to smoke again

It depends on what addiction he has to them. I'm not addicted to the nicotine, but to boredom. Like when I'm driving, it's the having something in your hand like a pen or something!

Sounds like a retard. My brother took up smoking for a while when he was 18, or tried to at least. It got back to my dad that he was smoking (one of my dad's friend saw him smoking at the mall or something). Anyway, my dad wasn't a physical man, but he tore into my brother verbally and I've never seen him smoke since then. He's 24 now.

The combination of chemicals in cigarettes are more addictive than crack/cocaine. Maybe let him know the odds are severely against him of not getting addicted.

Cheers,

Same way I started, turned into a 3pack a week habit and if I kept going I'm sure I wouldve been smoking a pack a day. Was hard to quit but I've been without one for almost 4months, cant even stand the smell now. Absolutely discusting, plus girls hate smokers!

He is 19 so I guess you can't stop him. But he should think twice about starting to smoke. It starts as a few times a week, and before you know it you will be smoking a lot!! You get short breath from it, and your skin will start looking like shit. You can get cancer and some more things from it. Quit while you can.

It's funny I have friends that say they can't get addicted, won't get addicted, can stop cold turkey if they wanted...so I tell them to go one week without smoking and they can't even do that

1) I'm 19. I picked up smoking with one friend that I saw once or twice a week. (I only smoked so I could blow smoke rings!)

Did that for a month or two, got bored.

If you don't want to smoke, you won't.

It's a CHOICE thing. It doesn't matter how many scary pictures of brains getting cut open we see (At least that's what the G'vnt does here) - people who want to smoke will.

They're quite informed about the risks.

Summary - let your brother do it. Say you disapprove or whatever, but don't turn it into a situation where he starts sneaking off to smoke them

Put your brother in a headlock, pop a straw in his mouth (regular straw for drinking), and plug his nose with your fingers. Make him breathe in and out (through the straw only) until he has an anxiety attack.

You've just momentarily recreated emphysema. It sounds easy but try breathing in and out through a straw -- you can't breathe all the way out which is comparable to having emphysema.

Maybe try handcuffing him to an oxygen tank? Persistently ridicule him for being a moron?

I held my dad's hand while he died from this . . . and he quit smoking about fifteen years before that - it still got him in the end .

Ok so you are recommending assault and false imprisonment to get someone to stop smoking?

or of course, you could take his 'light' 6mg and chop off the filter. Make him smoke that and see if he ever wants to do it again.

I tried a filterless 8mg once got one puff and was 5/8ths of fuck all away from passing out.
