In a world full of banner-blind webmasters, it's probably one of the few sigs I've personally clicked.

True...its not...but when you actually think about the content you add to any given gallery...when you drill hard on a tactic to achieve the click...like "Free Video Preview". You can still get clicks.

If you think your assumption is set in stone I'd like to show you wome amateurpages galleries...all of which are , "So 1995" that pull clicks AND conversions like a dentists pull teeth.

I find on an increasingly frequent basis that when I begin making blanket statements, formulating general theories, or confining myself to what I THINK works...I lose money.

When I pretend, Its not to hard, that I know absolutely nothing and let the numbers dictate my decisions...I make money.

You can have whatever views you want...that's your perogative. But becareful what guns you stick to. You may be giving yourself too much credit.

I'd also like to add...that the larger factor in the success of the gallery is not on the surfer end...its on the webmaster end...can you get listed? I find prettier galleries get listed more often...and thus have a higher success rate simply in terms of quantity of page views.

Good text is also a big clincher in galleries. I find the better the text is at hooking the surfer, the more clicks the gallery will get. It's like doing a print ad in a newspaper.. if you tell them about the "product" and make them feel like it's something they want/need to have, they will come. People tend to forget that galleries aren't just a pretty frame for pictures, it's an ADVERTISEMENT... and done the right way, it's a VERY effective marketing tool.

I agree with you on the text bit for sure...I'll admit some of the text hooks on that gallery are a bit weak...I hoped that some people might add their own spice. I also think that to really use the pics effectively they need to be broken up and arranged spacially around the ad. Think of the epileptic animations as the carpet in a casino...its to busy to want to focus...my first goal is a reaction click...the second is to keep them focused elsewhere, get them to avert their eyes to something else..like the content...which draws you into the center ad...which I think will get the bulk of the clicks on that gallery.

Maybe I try to over analyze galleries...I usually like to just play a bit...use a few techniques that have worked in the past. When I deliver galleries to a client...I usually try to run the gamut from hard sell to soft sell to easy on the eyes to annoying...unless otherwise specified. This way I can usually deliver a few gems that will work well with their traffic.

Yeppers... You got it! And each gallery is different..some galleries will do better with some traffic, some better with others. Don't give up on a gallery after one bad run... Sometimes it helps for people to see a gallery a few times, or a sponsor or sitea few times before they get ready to bite..
