Laptop Owners
What do you consider important? I'm diving into one soon I think. What do you reccomend?
To me the most important things: - Battery Life - The ability to disable that touch pad and use a mouse - Screen Quality Local place has those "E-Machines" 15" wide ones pretty cheap. I was looking at those. |

How the keyboard feels.
How good the screen appears when you are in extreme lighting conditions. ![]()

Don't go cheap, get a keyboard you like and one that has the same features as your desktops.
I got one in December of last year, and it now functions as my desktop. I hook up an external 19" monitor, wireless keyboard & mouse when im sitting at my desk, then unhook it and im on my way with the laptop. It's nice, but keep in mind it will be slower than a comparable desktop. Andy

I had an old thinkpad long ago that I LOVED but sold and perhaps I should be looking at the IBM ones again. Little more cost but perhaps happier overall. |

ps2 to usb adaptors are cheap, $20 or so - an inexpensive alternative to wireless. saves my laptop's keyboard and touchpad from abuse and keeps everything looking like brand new. ![]()

I went all out with my laptop. Pretty much has replaced my desktop and I can travel with it. I got a Sager 8890 and it was close to $3000 but well worth the money.
I would stay away from emachine for sure. They are cheap for a reason. |

power, battery life, resolution, screen quality and also how long it will take before it's obsolete
a few years ago I spent 3.5k on a laptop cuz I wanted the best and I'm still using it and it still runs almost everything I need to run fairly fast.... I don't like lightweight pieces of shit that aren't durable either I got a Dell Inspiron and I am happy..... |

Another thing to consider is the weight of this as you will be lugging this all over the far corners of the planet. When it comes to laptops, I have owned them all, when it comes down to it, the IBM Thinkpads are the best way to go when going with the Windoze/Linux operating system. Their keyboards are like silk, the screen is easy to read, and their repair policy is A1, if you want something cool, light and sexy, I'd check out the Thinkpad T41

I guess another thing to consider is upgradeability... can you add a bigger HD or an additional one? can you add a lot more memory? etc.
