Direcway satallite assholes

We have direcway because where we live we can not get a fast connection. We have had them for 2 years and the entire time our dial up has been faster. we have spoken with them a ton of time and they say that it is moving at near t1 speeds... HA!

Anyway, last night we were downloading a bunch of stuff and today we lost the connection. So we called support. After 2 hours they managed to fix it on their end..

Amazingly they told us that they had slowed our speeds from the next 8 hours because we used 386megs last night!!!

The did not bother to tell us. We are pretty sure that they also just shut us off today..

Bunch of assholes.. so anyone thinking of using them DONT!

considerign the fact.. i once worked for earthlink doing support for direcway, i can tell you, you are an idiot for signing up for their service.. and direcway is much faster than a T1, hence the reason they " FAP " you and slow down your speeds if you go over... if they didnt everyone and their momma with direcway would be downloading at near t3 speeds...

its all in the paperwork and on their webpage, and they dotn have to tell you.. its all in their fair access policy.. learn tyo read the contract before your signup... if its anyones fualt its your own..

Christ, I had them for one week before I cancelled. Dial up is way better than their shit. They lied to me more times than I can remember. Everyone there told me a different story. Than when I tell them to come pic up their shit they advise me that they don't do that. They send you a little box and you have to send it back to them. Oh and they charge 400 bucks to your credit card until they get the equipment back. Directway blows donkey dick. I'd rant more about those dumbfucks but the games about to start.

Direcway blatantly LIED to us and told us we'd be getting like 384k down and 128k up, but we ended up getting about 20k down and 2k up and that was from the very first day. We never got about 30k down and 5k up and that was VERY rare.

We were so angry that we not only asked them to cancel our contract, but we asked for our money back for the installation. They refused and we called our CC company to dispute the charge because we were lied to. We ended up getting our money back because of the lies.

direcway has pluses and minuses.

you need to load the latest speed patch, and be using the latest version of the software.

it's download speed can be VERY fast, but you need to ration your use so you don't get fapped.

i can see download speeds many times at 3.2-3.5mbps on a clear night.

upload is a drag.

so i just got a T1 for 600/month to at least get a decent upload.

So it's okay for their sales people to BLATANTLY LIE to people because the truth is in the contract? I don't think so. Plus, they told us that once the guy got to our house we HAD to at least pay the installation cost, which was around $200. So I'm out $200 before I even get to READ the contract.

Also, we SPECIFICALLY told them that we would be uploading and downloading a massive amout of data because we would be using the line for business and that we would be transferring hundreds of megs of files on a regular basis and they assured us that the service was perfect for us and that we would never be limited or have problems during bad weather and blah-blah. I have never been so openly lied to by a company in my life. But that's okay because it's in the contract that you don't even get to SEE until an installer brings it to your house and you're forced to pay $200??

You must be out of your gourd for defending these lowlifes.

No one is defneding them, I believe he is blaming you for not checking it out before hand, it took me about 5 secs to click the terms of service on thier website:

Fair Access Policy

To ensure equal Internet access for all DIRECWAY® subscribers, Hughes Network Systems maintains a running average fair access policy. Fair access establishes an equitable balance in Internet access across Satellite broadband services by service plan for all DIRECWAY customers regardless of their frequency of use or volume of traffic. To ensure this equity, customers may experience some temporary throughput limitations. DIRECWAY Internet access is not guaranteed. This policy applies to all service plans including "Unlimited" plans where customers' use of the Service is not limited to a specific number of hours per month.

http://legal.direcway.com/index.html#terms

I have thought of using them many times but would never agree to something where they can turn you off at thier discretion, with no hard limits, and still expect you to get paid for it.

AND sales people lie all the time, as long as the truth is in the contract you signed afterwords your fault for not reading it all. Or do you really believe that every single site on the net "has the hottest women on the internet!!!" If people signup and dont read the TOS then they are at fault, people dont take personal responsibility for thier decisions serious enough.

Can you get better download limits if you go up to the business package? For folks without access to DSL or cable, it'd be worth paying a little extra to get it working.

I see what you're saying Rutopls, but we didn't have internet at all when we got Direcway so we wouldn't have been able to read their terms online. We'd moved from another state where we hade cable internet to a small town and there was no cable modem service, so rather than buy dialup we looked Direcway up in the phone book and called them. We didn't even get to see the contract until after the installer came and the first thing he did was collect the $200 installation fee. Of course now we'd always ask to see the contract first, but after being told so many lies at the time we didn't have any reason not to trust them.

We were lucky that the cable company in that got cable internet just a few days after we got Direcway, so we only had to use dialup for about a week or so.

The only idiot here is the one defending them... They lied from the start!!! They told us via e-mail and phone that it would be near or over t1 up and down...

We paid 700 for the dish and install and have never been able to get the guy to return to adjust the dish or anything... they even told us that we could buy extra speed, and that was bullshit also...

Be careful even with the cable, because we just read an article about a guy having a problem with comcast that limited him after 100gigs in a month.. I know that is a lot, but in this business you can burn that fast.

Were you talking to the local offices?? I was in the same boat you were, I moved out of Chicago to a small town in the southwest and found that DirecTV was run through a local "coop", and they were a bunch of morons, I do believe they would lie to you. Have you made it through to the national offices? Perhaps they can help you recoup some fees...

Sadly it was the national offices that lied to us. The local office had ONE installer (who had his pre-teen son helping him) and he didn't know squat about the service. He said, "All I do is install and calibrate the dish, if you want to know about the service you'll need to call them." So I did. I asked a ton of questions and I wrote alot of the answers down so I could relay them to my husband later. The national office refused to refund any of the money after numerous attempts to work with them and even after they admitted that customers were routinely told that they would get those speeds they did nothing. They said that occasionally a customer service rep would "forget" to mention that those speeds were NOT available in all areas and such.

It was just awful.

Plain and simply they are liars...

they did not always have the TOS online... Infact they used to say that no matter where you live, you would get near t1 speed... We wish now that we had taken a screen shot... But we did not think about it then...

Lensman says that he gets pretty good speed from his in lake taho, but it may have something to do with the location...

We are in Florida, and it is simply terrible... We have not closed it because it is the only thing that we have.... My driveway is almost a mile, and I would have to pay for an install of additional phone lines... And when we asked for cable that old us that we could put up the first 15k and then they would install in our area...

We're using Comcast Pro now. It's nice. I believe we get 3 Mbits down and 512k up on the Pro service. I regularly gets speeds of 300k and sometimes in the 400-500k range downloading and around 50k up and I do alot of transfer. Haven't had any problems with being limited or anything. We do have intermittent lapses in service (probably due to too many people in our area having the service) but it usually lasts no more than 10-20 minutes, most of the time it's just a couple of minutes.

Is that satallite???

That sounds a ton better than this crap!!!

But I will say, that I will never move someplace unless highspeed is already available. We took this place because the phone company said that DSL would be here in three months. 2 years ago...

No, it's not satellite. It's cable. When we moved, we moved to a smaller city and they didn't have cable internet, yet. That's why we got Direcway. But just a few days later the cable company there started offering cable internet access and we were one of the very first that got it. It was slow for cable, I think it was like 512k or so down and 128k up. But it was SO great to have something other than dialup.

Now we're living in a major city which is why we have such fast access. I like small town living except for the lack of high speed internet, so until we can get high speed in the boonies, we're sticking with city life.

I've had DirecWay for less than a week now at home. I still have DSL at the office, but my home is high in the mountains (snow country).

My download speeds are around 500k. Upload speeds are about 4k.

The service has regular intermittent outages that last a few seconds to a minute.

BUT it's still better than mountain Dial-Up.

Agreed. I have no choice, I live on a mountain 35 miles from cable or wireless.

Direcway sucks ass, and the ragheads that answer the phone don't know fuck.

I know that... the guy I was one the phone with was so hard to understand.. I kept having to ask him to repeat things..

And Donovan.. Just give it a few weeks. We are due for anther 4 or 5 days outage. That happens about every 3 months or so...

OH and if for some reason that there is a billing issue, on your part or theirs, they will just shut your service off. They will not e-mail you or call you. They just shut it off...

{EDIT}

And the worst part is that we live 1.7 miles from the range of the DSL lines that pass right by us.. AAAAAHHHHHH
We asked bellsouth to give it to us and that we would pick up 2k woth of the install. They said no, as it will cost them 100k for the box, and there are only 2 people in the 3 mile radius that would take it

Yes I have to agree, DW sux ass compared to other broadband providers, main reason is the bullshit FAP.
I have the business edition for $90 a month and still only get about 360mb FAP bucket.
I rarely have outages however.. its snowing like biatch outside right now and my signal is at 61 with speeds of...
** Speed: 853(down)/22(up) kbps **

I know that doesnt look so hot to most of us out there, but it beats the HELL out of dial up around here lol.

DOnt get me wrong, I get much higher speeds than that at times, but what good is that speed if you are limited to so little BW?

Go with cable or DSL if you have the choice!!!

If you are looking for some good tips and tricks to tweak your sat speeds etc, check out

Direcway Uncensored

They have some cool stuff there, lots of info too

Hope this helps

over the last 3 years i've used StarBand and DirecWay, i have nothing good to say about either. signal drops, excessive latency, cluster overloads, pathetic support.

better than nothing, but keeping a dial-up account as a backup connection is a wise idea.

yea, im an idiot, but i didnt pay up to $700 for something that will get limited to 56k speeds now did i?

when i worked for earthlink. i did tech supprt, and beta testing, i got my dish and install for free, and from knowing what happens on both ends.. i say srew hughes

and for those of you that asked about the business plan, all there doing is giving you a few more hours.. and a little more stuff to download.

if you have no other option and want high speed internet but not for everyday hardcore downloading.. this may be good for you.. if not its not worth it...

and when i had my dish, my speed from bandwidthplace.com was 9Mbps down... so i would say thats pretty quick :D
