Why doesnt every ethnic group have a day dedicated to one of the people they feel worthy?

Why doesnt every ethnic group have a month dedicated towards learning their history?

Why is there no Asian History Month? No Mexican history month?

the "month" thingy seems kind of dumb to me - if you want to learn about cultural heritage you should learn about it whenever you want, not during the course of one particular month of the year yea ... sort of racist (in the affirmative action kind of way) that their arent these "months" for other minorities, or crackers like me for that matter.

I for one fully support MLK Day (im a white dude). This guy was a bad mofo - i dont want to think of what kind of world it would be without him having lived. Its sad enough to see it in pictures and hear about it from my grandmother.

I agree with the essence of your statement that the minority holidays are not equally dispersed - but this is not just some holiday for blacks. This was a dude that changed America for the better, and will be in history books 1000 years from now. I consider it a holiday for myself too, and im celebrating it

Black history month should be categorized with Cultural awareness month. That is a month designed to learn more about your heritage and appreciate it.

As far as MLK day... He was a great man with big hopes that overcame large obstacles. What he did was important and he deserves a day to be recognized.

ok a list history class here. First martin luther was a great man who repersented all walks of live. His over all goal was for every man,women and clild of every race to live together in harmony. On a similar note, why do Black, Asian, Mexican (etc etc) studies always promote/teach positive history, culture, etc of the respective ethnic group, yet White studes (an official College course) teach negative junk about White people?

When it comes to our ancestors, they may have done things which _THEY_ should be ashamed of, not me. Should I be ashamed because of my Jewish religion or maybe that my dad is from Portugal and my mom from morocco? I'm proud of who and what I am.

In short, Yes I am Jewish and no I don?t hold any German responsible for any of the crimes committed during world war 2 (unless they did have involvement in it), just as the black shouldn?t hold any one person responsible for enslaving their ancestors. It's only repeating the cycle. Hell, i even own a German car and helped to support their economy a little.

Point is, where is my Jewish History Month, Why doesn?t the government shutdown to celebrate my holidays?

i think i see his point and if it's laid out a bit more then people would understand.

there is a black history month, there is cinco de mayo, and there are the jewish holidays. nothing is dedicated to asians, indians, native american's, etc....

at no time is there a "white" holiday (you cannot count presidents day or any of that stuff) and no one gets off for the jewish holidays. you have to be jewish to take the day or days off and in most instances, you have to take a personal day rather then it being a national holiday unless you work for an all jewish company.

mlk day is considered a national holiday and febuary is a dedicated black history month whereas every other race pretty much gets nothing.

i agree there there are quite a few people who have done a lot for this country and even the world who should get the same respect for a day and/or month as mlk. why not have an einstein month or day, why not have a graham-bell month or day (he certainly did a lot for the world!); you see what i am getting at.

Very good point! The natives showed the white man how to live off the land, how to make it through the winter season. Their land was then stolen and you think they would at least get a national holiday out of it... At least they got the right to self-government although I don't think that will last too much longer since it could be deemed a terrorist threat.
