Wouldnt some kind of data protection law make this illegal?

Or perhaps something along the lines of altering the initial contract the affiliate signed up for?

Don't lynch me if I'm wrong, but I do recall reading that the terms of the license do require people who sign a license with them to give Acacia full disclosure about their "affiliates" so that they may be served as well.

When Acacia were talking about "affiliates" being safe if a program signed, they didn't mean it in the sense of the word that we use it, they meant affiliates as in employees, owners or people directly affiliated with the entity that signed.

But, I would never buy the stock beforehand, or turn over ANY affiliate info. I was saying, anyone turning over info should be boycotted, not companies that have made a business decision to license.

Successful business is based on making strong alliances with others in the industry and being loyal to those people.. not every man for himself.

No offense.. both can make money.. but only one will be successful long term. Which business model do you follow?

Interesting.. Maybe Far-L has more info about this?

I haven't seen the agreements so I can't comment on that.

I would think so. I don't post on public boards or tell anyone what I will, would do. Just do it and keep it 2 myself.

For those who have NOT gotten anything yet, Acacias address is less than a couple hours from me and the postmark on the letter was yesterday.

So depending where you are check your boxes the next couple of days.

No doubt more letters are in transit right now.

InsaneGreen 10-22-2003 04:08 PM

i got my first letter today as well. and now that i think about it acacia had to have gotten it from a sponsor. the only people that have this adress is sponsers, none of my whois info or anything else goes to this address. same with content. my dredit cards have a different address than this address so i use that address with content companys...

im gonna figure out which sponsor gave out my info. can someone link me to a list of sponsors that have signed?

I would think so. Man we need an attorney to speak up now. This is a grey area.

Either way we need to boycott anyone who is a part of this.

We need more names. Someone post a list of the 54 companies that have setteled so we have a list to work from.

Anyone have this list? And I'm NOT saying that all 54 companies gave out info out.. I'm saying a list to work from to see who we have affiliate accounts with and who MIGHT have been behind leaking information.

BRISK 10-22-2003 04:10 PM

I will not promote any affiliate program that gives the personal information of its affiliates to Acacia.

Well they shouldn't be hard for you 2 find. Can't be anyone else that lives in Death Valley but you and them.

Yes, I would very much like to see this list also.

I am signed up with 30+ affiliate programs and I can guarentee you that I'll be withdrawling from each and every one that is on the list just for safe measure.

BRISK 10-22-2003 04:14 PM

This is a list of companies that have settled with Acacia:

Hustler websites
Vivid Entertainment
Wicked Pictures

Copy this and add to the list

Who else has settled?

Note to self:

When giving out ANY physical address on the internet, always encode it like so:

Joe Blow
1234 Conspiring Way. p03
Anytown, Ca 90210

Or

Joe Blow
1234 Conspiring Way.
Anytown, CA 90210 p03

OR

Joe Blow
1234 Conspiring Way.
Authorization Code: p03
Anytown, CA 90210

P03 could stand for "program 03" or whatever I want.

Same goes for email... I should always encode my emails like [email protected] and use a "catch all" address on that account.

That way it's easy to know who is selling my email, and easy to blacklist people who do.

jimmyf 10-22-2003 04:16 PM

I know if I get one, to my home it has to be a sponsor, because all my domain's are Reg. 2 a freinds company address.

SOMEONE PLEASE POST A LIST OF COMPANIES THAT HAVE SIGNED WITH ACACIA... 54 total I believe.

Hustler websites

Kimmykim 10-22-2003 04:18 PM

couple of things here.

First off, why would Acacia be sending legal documents to an account name instead of the persons name? Obviously if they have the address, they know who the pay to is on the check. No attorney would send docs to someone calling them by anything other than their correct and legal name.

Second, withdrawing from programs that you've already signed up to isn't going to make any difference, since they have your information on file.

That's going to get your domains pulled, you do realize. Or at least, it may.

ive always been doing that. but acacia didnt put my email address in the letter they sent... they didnt even list any of my sites. kinda seemed like they just hoped i was streaming videos, which i am not...

Far-L 10-22-2003 04:22 PM

KimmyKim: That is not correct, tons of people have been getting the letter addressed to company names and are being delivered at po boxes with no signature requirements.

KK, I don't think they are talking about withdrawing from a company so that information is erased. I think they are talking about boycotts ya know?

BRISK 10-22-2003 04:23 PM

I will not promote any affiliate program that gives the personal information of its affiliates to Acacia.

Kim.. no offense.. but denial is not going to result in taking care of this issue. I have told you, and others have attested, that this is what they are doing. And thank God they did it this way because now we know that some sponsors have sold us out!

I'm advocating Boycotting programs that have done this to us.. not withdrawing. Changing information will be usefull on programs that have not settled with Acacia.

Thanks to Squirtit to pointing me to this post. Here is what happened to me today.

I got a "Final Notice" to sign with them today. I asked them, "I run Sex Toy sites with NO VIDEO STREAMING, or Sound!"

Their reply was that the sites in question are porn sites, not a sex toy site.

After a little research, they said they must have gotten my name "Mixed up" with someone else.

WTF? How did they get my business address and name 'Mixed Up" with a porn site owner?

:ak47: FUCK YOU ACACIA!

Yes this is a proven fact.

Do you have a list of settlers? Where can we get this list?

Is there a way that these guys can join your suit for $2k-$3k to start? I think now is a good time to bring up alternatives other than hiding.

Far-L .. what deal can you work out for these guys to join your fight?
