How is killing a lobster any different than killing cows or turkey?

Turkeys, they string upside down, run them through electric salt water to stun them, then cut their heads off.

Cows get almost the same treatment, but they are hit with a stun gun before getting shot.

Would you really eat most meat if you had to kill it yourself?

I grew up on a farm in a hunting community, 99% of the meat we ate was self butchered.

So, myself personally, I don't have a problem with killing it before I grill it.

My bigger concern is buying meat from a store now, you have to be very careful because butchers can get careless and use dirty saw blades, meatgrinders, prep tables, etc.

With our self-butchered meat, it was nothing to eat raw hamburger on top of crackers or potato chips, but you just can't do that with store bought hamburger as you can't trust that the meat was handled properly.

Here in Miami it is now Lobster season, you can take your boat out offshore in about 10 to 15 feet of water around rocks and reefs and snorkle for them. All they do is crawl around on the bottom and eat trash, and rotting things, and they tend to hide from the daylight.

Everybody around here calls them "bugs"

Ok, what would it take to get you to snorkle for a few of em, and send em fed-ex to CA?

Would Fedex Ship live lobsters? I can grab half a dozen on a Saturday Morning. The license for a day is just $12 and you can take 6 per person, or up to 24 per boat.

Fuck freeze em, and dry ice send em. I do not need them live.
So you can get 6 per day, and if you freeze them you could do a few days. lemme know your rate minus shipping. I am serious.

Hilarious.

Next time use tongs. Big tongs. LONNNNNG tongs. Grab that sucker and don't just drop him in the boiling water, PUT him down IN the boiling water, and hold him with the tongs until he stops squirming and starts cooking.

Damn ocean roaches, afraid of a little hot tub action.

I actually don't spend every day snorkeling for lobsters in Miami...It would sound good to say that though, wouldn't it?

Anyway, I would be glad to send you some the next time I go out. Find out for me what is involved in all this "freeze and dry ice and ship them" crap and I just send 'em to ya.

Fuck it's definitely cruel, but human beings are generally pretty fucking cruel to animals. Of course they taste fucking great, but it would be good if they were killed instantly instead of slowly and painfully. Same as when people are fishing and they let those fuckers slowly die from no air, just bash em in the head first.

Good karma, dont want to come back as a fucking lobster.

Btw, an interesting fact I found out when reading up about hunting legislation:

Hitler?s first dictatorial act, after the passing of the Enabling Act (1933) was to regulate the cooking of lobsters (he was distressed by their screams when tossed into boiling water). Only then did he abolish free trade unions.

http://www.huntfacts.com/hitler.htm

Not trying to use this to take from or give to either arguement, but I found it pretty strange.

Interesting topic - lol

Saw something about this on the Discovery Channel just a week or so ago. They say that lobsters HAVE to be boiled alive because they have some sort of bacteria that takes hold and spreads quickly if they are killed first.

Also - they DON'T scream. The guy said that the noise people hear is air pockets filling with water when they are submerged. He says you can put them into normal temp water and hear the same thing. It's just our own little *guilt trip* for boiling something alive that makes us think that sound is a scream.

Personally I don't like lobster - but hub loves the stuff. My daughter is the type that wants to buy the lobsters at the grocery store and set them free. Kinda hard to do in the middle of the desert though - I think he'd flip his claw at you and say "just boil me dammit!" lol

Of course its cruel to boil a lobster alive. Its also cruel to boil puppies, kittens, and people alive. People tend to sympathize with cute animals, but just about anything with a nervous system can experience pain.

Actually the bigger problem with meat these days is all the antibiotics and hormones that are pumped into the animals, not to mention the food and water the animals are fed are contaminated a lot of times.

Same goes for fruits and vegetables. Pesticides and fertilizers are sprayed on plants, the soil used to grow vegetables has been overused it no longer contains the minerals to produce healthy plants naturally. Then the produce is sprayed with wax to make them look better.

If you don't think these chemicals get into your hahahaha you are dead wrong. 100 years ago cancer, diabetes, etc were virtually unheard of in young people, now its almost at epidemic proportions.

Organic is the only way to really eat healthy.

Unfortunately, even organic foods can be contaminated by genetically modified foods. Cross polination is a reality.

True, nothing is perfect, but there are pretty strict guidelines for something to be certified organic. For meat the guidelines are:

* No pesticides, antibiotics or hormones.

* 100% certified organic feed and pasture, which means no genetically modified foods seeds or feeds or and is raised without herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

* No nitrates, nitrites or preservatives.

* Animals are never fed animal by-products.

* Freedom of movement for animals, with full access to the outdoors. Humane treatment of animals (defined by the Humane Society of the United States.)

* Farm and farm records are inspected every year by a third party to ensure the standards are being enforced.
