If you are good at what you do, then competition is healthy and only makes you better. I have been an athlete my whole life and very competetive. With my peers, they push me to shine in the brightest light - only "WE" could help each other peak to the highest level. When I got into this biz, i was so surprised at the back stabbing & stealing & bullshit lies that everyone uses to get ahead. It made me miss the real world alot, and helped me to remember who I was, and to continue to follow my code: Don't hurt anyone, don't hurt yourself, and don't do anything illegal. Throw the bread into the water & it will come back to you.

Competition in spots is completely different dont you think? As competitive as it might be you still want to win. Why would you teach someone you dont know anything which could possible take money out of your wallet, food off your table, etc etc?

I have tried to teach friends and non friends how I make money. Not so much in porn but in other things and not one has ever been able to do it. It is more of what the person is made of then what the process is. Anyone can copy a good idea but will they copy it 10 times a day for 300 days a year and really make it something.

Since we are trading on the 'Net and not an hundred yards apart in Main Street, I doubt if even giving away a complete blueprint for a business would actually cost a cent. In any case it is entirely different from giving away broad hints and how-to information.

Why should you do even that? Because if you aren't the only one with a brain, a lot of others will be doing the same thing, so you are going to get back far more information than you give away. Because even if you are one of the (maybe) 10% making some serious money you don't have all the answers. Because you are far more likely to be one of the 90%+ who makes peanuts or less and you need input from others much more than you need to protect what you already know.

Because if someone trusts and respects you because you have written endless posts about the size of your dick or to spam your sig, you can be fairly sure you have the trust and respect of an idiot.

I'll go to great lengths to help someone new out, even if they are looking at opening up something in direct competition to me.

Most people with any sense can take a look at a sponsor program anyways and get an idea of the direction of your business and in some cases, what your best converting sites are - we run stats on those inside our affiliate area. We aren't talking about state secrets here.

As far as content providers, there are some that I will pass along because I want to help the content provider out as well as the person asking the questions.

It's really the new ideas I'm working on that I guard carefully.

As far as people who don't post on boards and not doing business with them because of it. That's just plain silly. There are quite a few people who would just rather devote their time to working on their business than posting on boards. They develop relationships in other ways.

Most of my content providers have never even heard of Ynotmasters or GFY.

The service who currently hosts our server we met through a face to face meeting with another friend in the business while we were in Europe.

As much as many of you all love this board, there are many people in this business who come to it , look two or three times and see the lack of seriousness in a good portion of the posts, leave and never look back.

On a sidenote: I volunteered information a few years back to a newbie, showed him the little I knew about adult web and tried to teach him basic html. Months down the road he bought me a plane ticket and paid for Vegas Internext hotel and pretty much all trip expenses.

When you help someone, you never know what will happen down the line. Sometimes it's good.

Someone asking for help/information is one thing, someone trying to be sneaky and take you for an idiot by asking question which would reveal your entire operation for them to basically duplicate but doing it in a way that he thinks you wont catch on is a different story
