No I do not have dyno sheets scanned, I tried to find them in a thread in the past and I wasnt able too, dyno was 363rwhp stock with 250 miles on it, I'm sure a few ponies have been gained since the breakin.

At a fordchips dyno day in Denver a bone stock 03 Cobra dynoed 385rwhp, verified bone stock by 3 of the tuners. That is more then enough of a power advantage to nullify the weight difference, don't you think?

Car currently ran a best of 12.53, 2 weeks ago, with about $1300 in mods (most of it on stainless exhaust - Magnaflow for life) - and I admit that I am not the best stick driver, I am used to racing autos. How many miles was on yours? Basing from the averages that I have seen (from the Mustang club I am a member of) they seem to be dynoing around 369rwhp on average, some weaker some stronger).

I'm sorry but a C5 Vette more then likely dynos around 325rwhp (Basing this off estimation, since LS1, LS6, etc are usually under rated), and it does have a aero dynamic and weight advantage, which makes it pretty damn close. IBoth are stock high 12 second cars.

But stock for stock, ON MY EXPERIENCES OBSERVING AT THE TRACK, 03 cobras are beating C5's more often then not. Your mileage may vary. The point is the Ford GT is not meant to compete with vettes, because they are not even remotely in the same class. I know a Z06 vette is faster, but a C5 isn't.

as fast as supras are, they are not going to beat a big block ford like he's got. 8.30 on a mostly stock-motored supra? a supra with a stock bottom end, even if by some miracle (or 500hp nitrous) will NOT be reliable, and it will most likely blow something after a few runs.

i can get to 10.5 in my mazda truck reliably, and cheaply. maybe even to 10. but getting into the 9's, it's no longer going to stay reliable.

and, i can build a big block chevy motor on $2000 and blow the doors off most imports with $10000 invested. oh crap, that motor will be reliable, too. what do you think i could do to that BBC with $10000? about the tune of 800-900 horsepower.

there is NO replacement for displacement.

i love toyotas, and hate fords, but that was a very ignorant comment. that's the kind of person i see here in town with a fake vtec civic trying to race a vintage stingray, or a muscle car with a 6-71 out the hood.

yeah, i've seen a stock neon with one slight modification be put to the 10's. but that one modification was 500hp of nitrous, and it lived for 3 runs, then blew.

But regardless, there is something you need to understand. SVT created a car for tuners and racers, and put it out of the factory with much less power then it is capable of to keep insurance costs and other red tape down. Have you seen the gains simply by removing the air silencer? You have to respect 450rwhp for what little it costs to get there.

The dyno # is stock. The track time is not, i modded my car very soon so I do not have stock track times because I did not go to the track until 1500 miles.

How is it put up or shut up? I'm assuming that 03 isn't yours and you just found it on the net, how about you search for the rest that are not dynoing unusually low? (Aka, something that was not dynoed at 6000 feet altitude).

yeah, the ls1 is worth over 450hp without hardly any mods, and no computer changes. gm holds back quite a bit here. i don't think changing an airfilter will add 65rwhp, but then again maybe it's the most absolutely restrictive air filter on the planet.

Wtf? I didn't say the air filter gave that kind of gains, but people have dyno proven 10rwhp from removing an air silencer, while that doesnt show a lot it gives you some idea of how the engine is breathing through a straw.

But yeah, I know LS1's are wicked, but I do consider new cams past the 'hardly any mods' stage and I don't think most people can get a LS1 that high N/A without cams.

I love the LS1 engine mind you, I just get tired of the perpetual insult ford threads by elitists =)

bullshit. yeah, for a time american cars may not have been as reliable as a 70's honda cvcc, but that's not the case anymore.

i've seen proof. nice cars, shitty cars, whatever. i sold american cars. i had an old chevy celebrity, was my first car, and try as hard as i could, i could not make that car die. i went way over oil changes every time. once i went about 18000 miles without an oil change. no shit, one of my friends bought the stupid piece of shit and she's still driving it. most reliable car i've probably owned. always started, and it was WAY cheaper than an import to fix. same with my other domestics. quite reliable, and when they did break, i spent 1/3-1/2 of what i spent to fix an import.

$400 for a timing belt? fuck that, i've got a CHAIN.

with today's design, and even moderately decent maintenance, a car will live a long time. 100k miles is nothing. wonder why they started putting the extra digits on the odometer? that's why.

poorly maintain any car, and it will degenerate rapidly. especially a vw.

Oh I agree it's true, a lot of ford cars have in the past had piss poor reliability, but IMO most of the Mustangs and Mustang based cars are overall built much better then almost all of fords other cars. I also think American cars have made huge leaps in reliability in the past 5-10 years.

I believe a lot of complains about American cars come from people who buy sub 10k cars and are amazed that the quality is not the same as a 30k+ car.

As for german and japanese cars lasting longer, I wouldn't know I have never owned one ;) I do respect most cars, it's the owners that piss me off -_-

you think you can make a supra hook better than a mustang? hardly. the mustang is much more suspension-mod friendly. and where the hell do you find 90/10 drag shocks and springs for a supra? how do you fit 10 or 12" slicks under a supra without cutting it all sorts of up? how's a manual supra going to shift better than an automatic with a strip kit?

i'd rather have 250 hp in my truck than the 85 the factory rates it for. i'd say that's better.


a little history on the ls1. gm originally introduced 4 versions of the engine, ranging from 450hp to 600hp. the 600hp model was named the "coffin" version, for what reasons i do not know. i believe this was the motor that is used in the c5r race car, but i can't verify that (btw, you can order all the parts for the c5r, unassembled, if you want one - for i think about $125k).

i am under the impression a cam change is not necessary for the 450hp. i may be wrong, but everything i've read/heard is "minor modifications" - which i would not classify as a cam change, either. basically, i understood it that the breathing on both ends of that motor is fairly awful. opening up the air intake system, and helping out the exhaust will add a ton. the factory exhaust manifolds are fairly decent on the lsX, but they could still use help.


hey, since we're talking about factory perfomance bullshit, anyone hear about gm's crazy crate motor? it's supposed to go in the cien. dunno if it did. i believe it is a northstar, v12, that is about the _same physical size_ as a v8. 750 emissions-legal horsepower. yeah.

41 fucking psi? i don't think even the few turbo funny cars are running that. 25 maybe. put 41psi on a v8 . you can no longer argue import reliability at 41 psi of boost, that thing needs a rebuild every weekend.



a note on the supra head gaskets... you might want to look for an exact number, but, if you over-torque the bolts, that is known to fix many a head gasket woes. i've heard countless people doing that, and it working reliably. i almost bought a supra, so i did the research. over torque the bolts, the head gasket won't blow anymore.
