a little history on the ls1. gm originally introduced 4 versions of the engine, ranging from 450hp to 600hp. the 600hp model was named the "coffin" version, for what reasons i do not know. i believe this was the motor that is used in the c5r race car, but i can't verify that (btw, you can order all the parts for the c5r, unassembled, if you want one - for i think about $125k).

i am under the impression a cam change is not necessary for the 450hp. i may be wrong, but everything i've read/heard is "minor modifications" - which i would not classify as a cam change, either. basically, i understood it that the breathing on both ends of that motor is fairly awful. opening up the air intake system, and helping out the exhaust will add a ton. the factory exhaust manifolds are fairly decent on the lsX, but they could still use help.


hey, since we're talking about factory perfomance bullshit, anyone hear about gm's crazy crate motor? it's supposed to go in the cien. dunno if it did. i believe it is a northstar, v12, that is about the _same physical size_ as a v8. 750 emissions-legal horsepower. yeah.

lol.. hard to believe i, of all people, am sticking up for a ford.
