Rand Paul: 'Time for Congress to investigate' Obama

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Wednesday that lawmakers should investigate former President Obama, suggesting that he could have played a role in the years-long Russia investigation that concluded over the weekend.

In a tweet, the senator suggested that Congress should probe the origins of the now-concluded special counsel investigation into Russian election interference and possible ties with the Trump campaign, seemingly suggesting that Obama was involved in the FBI probe that predated it.

"I agree with @kimguilfoyle Time for Congress to investigate. What did President Obama know and when? How did this hoax go on for so long unabated?" Paul asked.

Obama reportedly was informed by the FBI in 2016 that the bureau was investigating Russian attempts to interfere in the 2016 election, but, according to former Vice President Biden's telling, Obama was warned against going public with the investigation by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Obama, during his tenure, said he confronted Russian President Vladimir Putin about Russian interference in the 2016 election. The former president, according to The New York Times, said he told Putin “to cut it out, there were going to be serious consequences if he did not.”

The FBI's probe of the campaign began following comments former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos reportedly made to Australian diplomats about Russia's theft of emails from the Democratic National Committee in May 2016.

The New York Times reported in 2018 that Papadopoulos's comments led to the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation into Russian interference, which evolved into the special counsel probe after President Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey in 2017.

Trump and his allies have repeatedly attacked the Mueller investigation as a partisan effort to undermine his presidency.

Trump is telling us how he fixed everything and everything is beautiful and better. The new NAFTA agreement isn't in place, and isn't going to be in place. It's not going to pass Congress here in the United States. It's also not going to get passed in Canada and Mexico - We actually have tariffs against steel and aluminum imports from both Canada AND Mexico.

"I'm going to drain the swamp" and "I only hire the best people". A dozen people from his campaign are now convicted felons - including his campaign manager - and he actually filled the swamp with actual lobbyists. Have you heard of Stephen Moore? Trump is trying to install him on the Federal Reserve Board. Even if we ignore the fact that he owes nearly $100k in back taxes, he actually said he has "no practical experience" and faces a "massive learning curve". He actually said both of those things.

Then we have the Education Department. Trump installed someone who has never been in a public school, and who's children never has never been in or attended a public school. It's like his logic is "Let's shake things up by taking the least qualified position and giving them the biggest post in government we can give them".

Robbie, your President has been in office for two years, people around him are going to prison, he is now the subject of a dozen investigations, and now after riding on Obama's strong economy for two years.... It's gonna take a huge dump.

I don't want an investigation and then have it buried by the Attorney General, which was appointed by the accused. I don't want a summary; I want the full fucking report. They release the full report of 9/11; I have the entire report downstairs.

And please do not tell me there was no collusion. We know for a fact that Trump's campaign manager was giving information to a known Russian agent. That's collusion. No mistake about that at all.

^^ That's a trick question. Didn't happen. He gave polling data (which may have been publicly available) to a former employee of his. That person knew some other guy who may know someone involved in Russian intelligence. Rochard acts like Manafort is giving state secrets directly to the KGB. That did not happen, which explains why there was no indictment related to that.
