Is anyone hiring for a remote position?

Hey everyone!
Well, I'm interested in an actual job in the industry and am wondering if anyone's hiring a full time affiliate manager, blogger, coder or writer.

If you are looking for someone to make your affiliates happy to promote you with emails answered 24/7, new and updated promo tools, articles and help with marketing and the technical side of things, please pm me.

I made a lot over the past 9 months but my trick doesn't work anymore and I'm tired of not knowing how much money I'll have until the last second as an affiliate...

I don't want to have to move, though.

These are 4 completely different jobs, 3 of which require completely different skill sets.

Which skill set are you best at? Target that type of job.

Friendly tip - Put together a coherent resume that lists your skills and past experience. I realize this is a very informal industry, but as an employer I can tell you, I wouldn't consider hiring someone who isn't willing to spend the time and effort to create a professional resume (unless their track record was well known).

No need for meaningless buzzwords, focus on the facts: Experience, skills, results/track record, references.

Good luck with your search.

I know, I have a resume but I like to stay anonymous on forums so that makes it harder.
Thanks for the tips!

I'm best at working with people with technical problems and how to scale up what they already have. I've also been trained with NATS and creating FHGs, so I think I should target an affiliate manager position. But, do adult programs hour people for that anymore?..

You're a talented dude, I've seen some of your work. I wish you the best.

As Sly mentioned, focus on one skill set you feel the most confident, and run with that. If you don't have any luck, go to skill set two. I'm sure you've heard the statement, "jack of all trades, master of none"? As an employer, when I see a resume where someone lists they can do everything under the sun, it sends off all kinds red lights.

I hired a guy last year who is very proficient in web development, graphic designer, and video editing. He had three different portfolio sites for each skill highlighting his best work. I posted a job online for a web developer, he emailed me the resume and portfolio link to the site he dedicated for web development only. Didn't mention design or video editing at all. Not until after he was hired did he show me the other sites. I thought it was pretty damn smart.

Thanks for the advise! I'll try that and see how it goes. I do agree that it's best to surprise someone with extra skills than for them to expect everything from the start.
But it is tempting to list everything because, you know, I want the job..

But it is tempting to list everything because, you know, I want the job..
Keep the skill set focused, I wouldn't boast about too much. A lot of times too many skills may give the impression that you have a mentality of entitlement; much like the phrase "you're over qualified to work with us."

Though it seems like you're good at what you do at times some of your posts inevitably come off as humble-brag douchey.

You said you had some kind of degree in robotics from Ohio state, so why can't you find an engineering job of some kind? Maybe you're not very good at selling yourself in person?
I stopped attending Iowa State University in computer engineering, I simply got tired of the course work (started getting a lot harder and I lost passion to even study, which is a very bad combo). My dad is still bitter about it (as he graduated from there with a degree in electrical engineering), I stopped attending not because I had something much better or opportunity cost for something better, simply because I just didn't like it anymore.

If you can get an engineering job it's one of the best jobs you can get, starting pay (for desired engineers) is starting to hover around $100k.
Engineering jobs a great and easy to find (if you are one of those rarely qualified people), most people can't do it though.

Anyway, you're a bit old to be smoking pot, delivering pizzas, hanging out in skate parks, and whatever else; at some point you'll cross an age line and become a weirdo to all those who ask you what you do. 28 going on 29. Hell, you might even become Mike Sinner and start working at McDonalds at the age of 40. Sounds like you need consistency, just remember you're mortal. You already fell hard once (so it seemed), you only get so many chances to start at something new.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most important thing is to find something that is in sync with you and just stay focused.

You mentioned delivering pizza to a business where they were talking about Ruby on Rails and they bill at $100+ an hour. That's true, when I was repairing a businessman's phone he said the church he works with has a Rails developer that bills at $100 an hour.

Nice thing is I have the next 3-5 years planned out.

Hopefully you find something you want to do and not get sucked up into a gig that you're doomed to be cut as soon as expense issues come up.

Yeah, I need to find a real job around here, but so far I haven't found too much. It's a lot more competitive since I'm right around OSU, too.

I know what you mean. I've stopped smoking a lot, completely stopped smoking hookah and if I'm at a skatepark, it's just for exercise really when no one else is there.

Honestly... I made this thread when working today thinking "I'm too fucking old to be delivering pizzas".. I started doing that last week because I made a little over $100,000 by last June and now I have a little less than 20k in the bank and income dried up and I'm scared.. That's why I hate affiliate marketing as primary income.

The pizza place did offer me a programming job at corporate again, but that would be 60 hrs/week 4 weeks on and 1 on call, and it's pretty far from me. They say "It's 34k/yr", but that's after overtime is calculated in...

The place that said they had a job for me once I got my degree for CAD with military vehicles sadly doesn't have an opening yet and cut down since I first applied.

Still, I'm not doing bad, I just am really interested in a full time position.
I have some resumes/CVs to do.

34k a year isn't a serious programming job. I have a friend that owns a lawn mowing business and snow shoveling business, he might still deliver pizzas. You can make $25 hr or more sometimes for relatively easy work. Same reason some people end up bar tending their whole lives and ultimately accomplish nothing.

I've done all kinds of freelancing. I realized shortly after turning 30 (turned 31 a month ago) I need to quit the gig economy. Fixing phones, tutoring sessions, freelance gigs for ma and pa establishments. Being an uber driver is part of the gig economy.
We've all done things we're not proud off.
I did a deal with a guy off of facialforum.net and sent him 3 TB of porn on a hard drive for $400 because his ISP only allowed him 5 GB a month in New Zealand.
I did some tutoring gigs but mostly just did peoples' papers and homework and bill via PayPal. One time a mom called me in a panic and had her son that only had 20% of his algebra 2 class done and needed it complete within 36 hours. $200 and I got it done.

Anyway...

Free lancing is tough if the person paying the bill has ownership of the money, it's always painful for them. If it's just a person paying the expenses it's much easier.
Most people you'll find on craigslist don't have much money to start with. Agency gigs before you get good enough to negotiate on your own.

Not to long ago I got a hand-me-down agency gig from some guys I met, they liked me but I had to dismiss myself after finding out I couldn't do it. The job involved building up a wordpress multisite with a custom built theme and other custom code, back-end and front-end. Too comprehensive and not long afterward I had to dismiss myself ): . Inspired me to do something.
I completed my frontend nano degree with Udacity and have one more project with my fullstack developer degree and then I'm done. All the course projects are not easy!
I'll be starting with shitty gigs to start off (items I'm familiar with) but will be focusing on building up and even delegating out my work to other developers I vet. I like building something I'm proud off and making customers proud. Much easier when it's not smut and you have to sweep it under the rug to save face.

There may be a lot of competition around where you live but there are always more problems than there are competent people.
Starting out is always the hardest part, starting over in different things makes it worse and wears you out.

People fall for all reasons, I had one guy that agreed to do some programming work for $12 an hour 4 years ago (he was desperate) and I found out he did really good with affiliate dating (I saw his earnings from an actual document, well over 6 figures).

Consider going to meetup.com events with people involved with UX/design and specific technologies.

In the meantime quit the pot habit and fire all your loser buddies. Best of luck!

How did you find the Udacity course? I've been thinking about doing the Swift course with them. How are the units delivered? Video? Also, the pricing seems vague, $200 per month until you finish.

Be interested to hear any thoughts you have.

Good luck!

ColMike, why not take the skills that you have and build a legit business out of it? Even if it's in another industry. Either that or try and create another traffic getting tactic and don't share it, don't say that you have it, don't do anything other than spend an enormous amount of time building it up.

You have a degree in Robotic Engineering from Ohio State and you're asking for $18hr/OBO? Robotic Engineers are one of the most sought after positions in the world right now. You could be asking for over $100k a year easy. My friend is an Electronics Engineer working for Boeing and he's pulling in well over $225k a year. Damn man, if smoking weed is that important to you, maybe you should take a step back and reassess your choices in life. I'm not being a dick, just being real.

I was just offering 18/hr because affiliate marketing and making websites isn't robotics..

It's computer science engineering, btw.

I have cut way down on smoking, too. The reason I smoked so much is because I had a stupid problem with depression. But I do think I'm back to normal now, I just need to keep it that way.

I have been thinking about doing that for years, but I don't really know how to start and get funding. :/

And I do have another traffic idea, but this is all you'll hear about it ;)

I've also made a 1200 part robot in CAD and I machined most of the body and chassis and programmed the controls and autonomous mode in C# and I was in the news three times for it. I'm pretty sure I was high the whole time....

$200 a month until you complete all projects (1 week free to look at material), if you complete everything within 12 months you'll get 50% of whatever you spent back.

Work is delivered via zip files or you share a github repository. I wouldn't do Swift/iOS I would do the front end because it's relatively easy and there's high demand for it. All you need is a browser and a code editor.

I'd only do iOS if you plan on continuing to do iOS nonstop, Apple keeps changing things up and it keeps breaking whatever code you may already have.

Thanks for the info. I'll have a look into a different program. I haven't heard anything too negative about the program. (Hey sorry Colmike for the diversion. Good luck with your search)
