It's supposed to hit hard (which is why Google has given ample warning for this update) but you shouldn't worry at all as long as you've been focusing on creating websites that are mobile friendly, Google has several tools that show if your websites pass their checks and they have been sending out emails for the past 2 months letting webmasters know if their websites have problems and to change them by the 21st of April.

I am suprised that a big impact like "mobile Armageddon" is not discussed here more...

Mobile sub domains are being treated the same as responsive design, so if you have a mobile-friendly version of your site on m. you should be fine.

Don't even care. Id rather have non mobile websites that didn't suck and sold better then shitty mobile sites that got a bit extra crappy traffic from google

But to be fair I stopped caring about google years ago and sleep better because of it

If Google gets it right (<rolls eyes>) they will give the right search results, with the correct display of AdWords or AdSense as would be optimal.

As far as purchase decisions made from mobile devices, e.g.; spartphones or small tablets that are 3G or 4G enabled this change may be significant. The net effect on CPC results may be a real issue?

This is the gist of what I am reading. So, the ''mobilegeddon'' may be more of a pandemonium.

Google says jump and you say how high?

Google represents a lot of traffic for a lot of people. Organic traffic makes up the majority traffic source for a lot of the brands we work with. So as frustrating as it can be, at the end of the day traffic is revenue.

And keep in mind that any sites hit by this update for not being mobile friendly can get their mobile traffic back as soon as they are. It won't be a long-term struggle like with other updates.

If you have much mobile visitors those matter to you, then yes. However, the sites I have or most of my clients (or client's clients) don't have that much mobile visitors, and mobile visitors are usually sucky visitors, excluding tablet users. But if you have some mobile phone appstore; it might hit hard if your site is not mobile friendly; even without this update.

So it depends, if building new mobile friendly site would cost shitloads of money, and mobile visitors are not important to you, you might want to just wait for the next cycle where your site is updated "naturally" (because of other reasons).

We moved away from so-called "mobile websites" years ago. Just make your site mobile friendly, and avoid the hassles of handling two (or more) separate versions which could actually hurt you in the long run for various reasons.

Concerned about Google's "mobile-friendly"? Here, test against this:

I'm sure the 2 or 3 'real' adult webmasters on this board have already made the change. To the rest, you probably think the word 'mobile' refers to the days when your arthritis isn't acting up.

Like this man said, I got a "your site isn't mobile friendly" in the Webmaster Tool so I created a m. sub domain on Sunday, slapped up a oneclick wordpress install, and recreated 5 top pages of my 40 page site on a responsive template (startup theme) and cut and pasted a photo and some text.

On the www site I installed this mobile redirect library;
https://github.com/serbanghita/Mobile-Detect
ie in the header.php I have as my frst lines;
Code:
<?php
require_once 'Mobile_Detect.php';
$detect = new Mobile_Detect;
if($detect->isMobile()){
header('Location: http://m.example.co.za', true, 301);
}
?>
<!DOCTYPE html
carry on with the www site
And updated the URL to point to my relevant 4 other mobile pages.

And then fetched my 5 mobile pages as Googlebot using a smartphone user agent.

Today when I run the Googe mobile tool above the site is showing as "passed" but I've read that the WMT mobile friendly and the dev tools contradict each other.

Other big money sites I've had warnings for in November I've fixed and some high ranking zero revenue sites I've just ignored the warnings to see if they really tank.

February wasn't a great deal of warning IMHO. Lots of big (and wealthy) companies I work with had allocated their annual budgets already and just didn't have the resource or flexibility to make the changes to be 100% compliant with the WMT criteria.

Let's see how it goes

That's the 2005 way of doing mobile. Why manage two sites? Why give the user a jarring experience on his mobile other than one he might be used on on his tablet or desktop? Run a responsive site and you knock out a helluva lot of birds with the same stone.

couldn't care less, there's no point doing anything to a adult site to please google, they'll just drop your position are replace you with a tube site or something utterly unrelated from youtube anyway.

my sites are complex, I'd have to kill off a ton of links to please mobile friendly requirements

funny thing is, with just pinching, my sites are quite surfable and enjoyable on phones and tablets

Go figure. My sites looked tighter and neater on mobiles before we made the changes to pass Googles mobile - friendly test. I haven't seen any major outcry and also checked my competitors rankings on some keywords who did not go mobile friendly and so far there is no change. Guessing this is going to be less like mobilegeddon and more like irrelevant?

i've been discussing it already in my topic (how to make site mobile friendly using wordpress theme) here: https://gfy.com/fucking-around-and-pr...gle-ratio.html

i've decided to switch form tgpx to wordpress and i've successfully made google friendly site. My site pop up on google and bing almost instantly from not being there at all, now i'm waiting for going up, but i'm too concerned about youtube and other tube sites which are prob mobile friendly and in the end i'm afraid we will end with non-related serps showing tube sites but fuck it at least i know i've done good job

This is going to be massive guys...I think if most if you dig a little deeper you will recognize how much of an impact this is going to have.

I really want to encourage everyone to chat with any mobile companies they might have friends or any other association with...any mobile experts you have easy access to know.

I would also encourage everyone to do their own research and learn about the potential impact this could have on you as well as the overall culture of the industry as we know it.

How long after the update date did it take doom to show up for websites for the Penguin or Panda or whichever one crushed the intranet a few years back?

i don't give a shit . but the matter is worth mentioning since this thread is about google which meant to get answers from webmasters who would expect google hammering their sites or aware that game has been changed again, at the moment of post there was no other topic that more relevant to participate .

i provide this pic to support the second part of my comment , as u see this even happened before april -the problem has to do with the amount of traffic i receive today .

i think u miserably failed to make me look dumb here, moron

Doesn't seem so.. but I'll know when google analytics full day stats are visible (tomorrow morning).

A lot less "mobile surfers" in real time overview is quite noticable, my traffic used to be 45% mobile/tablet. Now it's more like 30-35%.

Will update this tomorrow.

Pussycash counts mobile and desktop traffic separately.
At the beggining of this month desktop to mobile was something like 60 /40 percent, now it is something like 75 percent to 25 as the mobile traffic has decreased significantly.
fuck that...i need to remake my sites.
