The people who currently 'hate' others over religious differences would simply find something else to hate others over.

Some of you best study history a little harder. Religion in the broad sense on the surface might seem all about wars and judging people, inquisitions and crucifixions etc, but if you look at the whole picture you'd soon see that a world without any form of 'faith' is a very bleak one.

You're of course free to argue the point, which I know you will. And there is that one song "imagine" you have going for you. :D

The world would be MUCH, MUCH worse..... religion is what holds it together.

You can equate it to the US considering Iraq would be liberated by their invasion of it. Many people held that view - now look at Iraq. Same for religion, its basically what has held things together - without beliefs, without god, in some region there's no reason not to kill thy neighbour for what he has. The world would basically fall apart without religion but in many ways, religion is also the cause of strife ie wars.

It would actually be worse. Like it or not, more than 90% of people on earth follow one religion or another. Without religion, people would have very little to no self control, would be rude to strangers, would act immorally, etc. Not that they don't do that already, obviously. But religion helps people control themselves. In fact, evolutionary scientists all believe that society would not have been able to sustain itself without religion.

Probably not untrue sadly. Hypocrisy and cherry picking amongst a reasonable percentage of followers of "insert religion here" is rife enough that one can only conclude that they need it for "something" but choose to ignore the parts that intrude on their actual life paths.

Far more have been killed in the name of Communism which allows no religion.

Atheists are very arrogant, the Western world we live in has been so influenced by Christianity and Judaism in its development that the truth is that even their self proclaimed intellectual rational science based superiority is due to a large extent to religion. It's impossible to know how the world would have developed without religion.

We'll all be long gone before there is a generation raised without religion, if it happens at all, but if it does it will sure be interesting what effect its absence will or won't have on how people live their lives.

i'm rather considered arrogant than irrational

but i have no problem with religious people - as long as they keep it in their own 4 walls and churches/temples/mosques etc
