Actually, you're not meant to be driving like a fucking ass hat on public streets thinking you're some sort of cart driver on a closed course. You're just a regular idiot and the rest of us would rather not have you as a public safety issue on the roads.

Cop taking a car away from you for driving a 700hp car "the way it's ment(sic) to be" = public service not theft.

Same here, and I was thinking about that... you basically pay for power that you can't ever use, yet people (including myself) still buy it. But why? A big part of it, I think, is just knowing that you have the power. When you're at a stop light and someone has a comparable car, you WANT to show your dominance over the road... so you rev the engine, you grandstand... you flex your muscles...

A big part of it is knowing, or feeling, that you are or may be cooler than the other person. It goes a little to self confidence, or maybe to sexual prowess... a psychologist could tell you for sure...

I know I come off like a dick most of the time, but consider this scenario:

Imagine a Tesla Model S and some muscle car, say Vendzilla's SRT, at a red light, 3-2-1 GO, and they race.

If the Tesla driver won the race, he would be happy because he won of course, but won for many reasons. IF the SRT driver lost, he would be pissed of course.

But if the Tesla driver lost by say, 1 second, the Tesla driver would still "win". While the SRT driver won the race, he still lost because, in the Tesla drivers mind, he wasted alot of energy. The Tesla driver could still say that he still won. And if he can do that, he is the cooler / smarter / bigger-cock guy on that road.

Peace.

while I understand Fuzebox' approach (also from my own experiences), this is something i never did and never was interested in.

the one or two times someone tried to race me, i deliberately waited an extra second before i drove off slowly..

i am not someone to risk my license over racing some idiot with too much testosterone and a short dick.

every car on that list has at least 600hp.
Technology > Brute Force but technology + brute force > technology.

Of course the VERY fastest cars are going to be a wicked combination of both.

So let's look a little further down the list.

2013 Nissan GTR - 542 HP, curb weight 3,827lbs, 0-60 in 3.0
2015 SRT Hellcat - 700 HP, 4,439 weight, 0-60 in 3.5

So the Nissan GTR with nearly an identical power to weight ratio is quite a bit faster. We'd have to go back to 2009 to find a 480hp GTR that ran the same 3.5 seconds.

Now here's the big kicker. With all due respect, unless you're really in to drag racing on the side, the chances of YOU running a 3.5 in that challenger are pretty low. On the other hand, your Grandma can bust off a 3.0 in the GTR with launch control. Technology is just better than brute force.

I want to agree, and I see what you are saying about launch control, but from what I've read in the past, the hp ratings for the gtr is conservative, not to mention the weight difference is significant between the 2 cars. I would wager a gtr is closer to 600hp typically. so imo these cars are not similar enough, the weight difference is ~20% and the hp difference is ~12%

But you bring up a point of view from which I was looking at it all- drag racing. if tech usurps brute force then top fuel dragsters and funny cars would have it in spades and not need 7000+ hp to win races. But the fact is those cars need brute force to win because current tech does not win races more than hp does.

You need huge amounts of horsepower to go faster as times get shorter. You need it exponentially. You NEED to have horsepower to go fast, but the technology to harness that horsepower is just as important, and arguable more so. If you took a drag car from the 1970s and gave it 7000 horsepower you wouldn't compete with a modern drag car, you'd just die.

To compare, here's a list of other cars turning in 3.5 second 0-60's.

2012 - Audi R8 5.2 V10 Spyder - 525hp
2007 - Ferrari 430 Scuderia - 483hp
2007 - Nissan Skyline R35 GTR - 473hp

There's quite a few more examples.

As for addressing the issue of weight, again the Hellcat and GTR have almost identical power to weight ratios, even if you factor in a little cheating on the part of Nissan. Even if that weren't the case though, reducing the weight in a car is a function of technology and NOT a function of horsepower. We're also not talking about a difference of a of a few tenths of a second, it's a full half second different. If you put another 100 HP in to that Hellcat, it's still not like to run 3.0 seconds and no chance at all without a VERY good driver.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not HATING on the SRT at all. Especially given its price, if that's the kind of car you're in to have it. Just for me, if you're going to come out of the gates cheering about having the most HP, I'd expect a better 0.60 time. Closer to 3 seconds or better.

What the hell. I just bought a new 2014 Camaro Mark and I thought you had one too but from what I am reading now you hate them? Did the Camaro make you hate gas or was it your new car? I was going to ask for a pic of your car because I could not remember what you had other then a new Camaro

So what you're saying the, is you can add more technology to the car and it will go faster. Hey, that sounds familiar! You could go even further, put a supercharger on it, and it will go faster still. You can put a boost controller on a GTR, you can ... You can always do something.

unless you are at least a semi-pro driver you will neither manage to achieve factory times nor even notice a difference between 3 or 4 secs to 60 mp/h

Well you're using better traction to harness the horsepower. It's not too much different than using AWD and Launch Control, which certainly would qualify as technology. It's not like you're talking about changing to really good street tires, you went as far as to say drag radials. You're right, in theory you probably could shave a few tenths off the 0-60 with drag radials. Well, YOU probably couldn't, but a good driver could with some practice in the car.

Here's what a stock 2013 GTR with drag radials will do, and notice how easy it is to launch. It says it's bone stock, but I'm pretty sure those are drag radials.

Again, don't get me wrong, it'd be a fun car to drive and brute force has a different kind of appeal than precision driving, some prefer it. It's too bad they couldn't have shaved a few hundred pounds and sent it out the door with the most kick ass tires they could find so it DID turn in a 3.2 or better. Unfortunately, you start losing the cost advantage then.

Hi Brian,

My last Camaro was a 2013 2SS RS 1LE (Pictured here beside the Telsa)

I had a 2010 2SS RS which I *LOVED*. The 1LE was faster and had really sick handling (20" Wheels, super wide tires, etc), but the ride was too harsh on Montreal's shitty roads. I enjoyed driving it on some highways around here but it was loud, rough, expensive, and drank alot of gas. My level of enjoyment just wasn't as high as I wanted it to be. To make things worse, there were endless oil spills in the news (and even a big explosion here in Quebec) that the oil companies seemed not to give a damn about. So I made a decision to ditch my car and go electric. I know it sounds crazy, but so far I am *Loving* electric.

Congrats on your Camaro!!

that's not how I read your tech trumps brute force comment, what you are saying here is tech = brute force.

supercharger = brute force.

either way, no biggie, but even in lightweight cars like arials, they still need 500+ hp to break the 0-60 3 second barrier.

so imo, brute force comes first, then tech to sort out how to get it to stick.

which is king - content or traffic?

It's a beautiful car. Maybe there are times when a driver could use so much power.

You have to realize they probably didn't want the hellcat getting a better 0-60 than the vette, hence the smaller tires. Hell even in my SRT8 jeep with 275s on the front and 315s on the rear with AWD I would still spin all 4 tires if I mashed the gas. I cant imagine that engine being super charged! Anything above 5-600HP range seems to be completely unrefined and is just raw power that you have to work to get to the pavement properly.

I am just amazed the performance you can get these days for the price. Gotta remember this is only a $55-$60k car. To have a low 3 sec car for that cheap is amazing to me. GTRs and other cars mentioned are all $110k+ for a base model. Would be like being able to buy his and hers of these in comparison.

Also I just hope they put that engine in the Jeep like they normally do for the other SRTs.

I understand your point. So far I love driving it. Here it is with my weinder dog checking shit out

For those that say you can't drive over 55, I call bull shit. There are several places in the US that are meant for cars like this. Long highways with nothing to do but drive fast.

Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that
