Same here, and I was thinking about that... you basically pay for power that you can't ever use, yet people (including myself) still buy it. But why? A big part of it, I think, is just knowing that you have the power. When you're at a stop light and someone has a comparable car, you WANT to show your dominance over the road... so you rev the engine, you grandstand... you flex your muscles...
A big part of it is knowing, or feeling, that you are or may be cooler than the other person. It goes a little to self confidence, or maybe to sexual prowess... a psychologist could tell you for sure...
I know I come off like a dick most of the time, but consider this scenario:
Imagine a Tesla Model S and some muscle car, say Vendzilla's SRT, at a red light, 3-2-1 GO, and they race.
If the Tesla driver won the race, he would be happy because he won of course, but won for many reasons. IF the SRT driver lost, he would be pissed of course.
But if the Tesla driver lost by say, 1 second, the Tesla driver would still "win". While the SRT driver won the race, he still lost because, in the Tesla drivers mind, he wasted alot of energy. The Tesla driver could still say that he still won. And if he can do that, he is the cooler / smarter / bigger-cock guy on that road.
Peace.
