Agnosticism should not be on the list.

It does not deal with the concept of belief.

Nor is athiesm a religion...it's the absence of religion. Semantics mate.....next time I'll rephrase the question.

Organized Religion is for pions, schmucks, and putzes.

Keep putting your money in the basket so they can payoff the neverending lawsuits caused by all these pedo pervert clowns prancing around like they are holy men in their purple tarps with cum stains underneath.

Thanks for the even-handed list of options. You list Moonie, but leave many people out. Might have considered "Other" as an option.

As to people saying that Athiesm isn't a religion. Well, you're right. However, it is the kind of thing that makes sense as an asnwer to this question. It is, after all, a religious position.

Also, it is foolish to say that Agnosicism has nothing to do with belief. It has everything to do with belief, it just doesn't include certain belief. Admitting you don't know what to believe is a valid position. Thinking otherwise is what leads to dogma.

C'mon Goth....like you're one to talk. In your poll "Where are you from?" you put "Other North American" instead of Canada. You put England instead of U.K. And you left out Ireland???

Moonie was a joke and "First Church of JJ" translates to "other". I'm curious, what else would you have included?

Yes, there's an 'a' in front.

a-theism
a-gnostic

People get so caught up in the popular use of words that they forget that in order to fully understand a word you need to take it back to its root.

Gnosticism is not the root of agnosticism. Both have gnosis, or knowledge, as their root. Agnosticism is not the opposite of gnosticism. Come on.

Agnostic... "a-" as in "non" and gnostic as in "knowledge"... Not having knowledge. Not being sure.

True.

So an agnostic is one who admits to having no knowledge of 'god'. Again, this does not deal with the concept of belief.

Someone who is an atheist or a-theist, is basically a non theist i.e. does not hold a belief in theism. Take careful note that in no way does this mean that an atheist DENIES the existence of god. Of course, some atheists might try to and some refer to this as "strong" athiesm but atheism in its pure form is just non theism.

a-theism deals with belief
a-gnosticism deals with knowledge.

They are actually complementary positions.

If you do not understand the close relationship between knowledge and belief... well, let me put it this way. If you feel you cannot *know* about something, what do you believe about that thing? Agnosticm has the answer to that worked out. So do people who understand it.

Bullshit.

Your statement that atheism denies god is absolute hogwash.
An atheist is someone who holds NO THEISTIC BELIEF or, in other words, is a non-theist.

Many people who call themselves agnostics are actually atheists because they are simply non-theists. There is no fence-sitting when it comes to belief. You either believe or you don't.

Do you even know who coined the term 'agnostic' and when?

I don't have a fucking religion.

Religion is for people too fucking weak to realise that they only have themselves to blame.

Quote:
"Uhh, the lord acts in mysterious ways"

NO HE DOESN'T.

He's fucking fiction. He's a character from a book, that's all. He isn't real. End of story.

If you are so fucking stupid and mindless that you need to blame some god for everything or ask some god for help, you need to wake up!

All gods are just characters from books. Do you believe in Harry Potter?

No?

Well, why not? He's a character from a book. Tell you what, Ill write a book with me as main character, and you can worship me!

Most agnostics are NOT "unsure". People tend the wrong impression about agnosticism and say things like "They're people who can't make up their minds," or, "They just don't know if there's a God."

That's true in some cases, but in most cases, agnosticism is an active decision not to believe in anything that can't be proven. It's an understanding that the metaphysical, by the sheer fact of being metaphysical, is unexplainable and unprovable, and therefore has no merit in an intellectual debate.

And most are also atheists. I'm an atheist and an agnostic. I don't believe in God, but I believe it's important to keep my mind open to all possibilities, so that I can easily assimilate any new real data (as opposed to believers who reject solid data any time it conflicts with their beliefs... things like evolution).

How about atheism? When people don't believe that there's a fairy godfather watching over them, and that they won't go to a happy place to spend eternity with all their dead pets and favorite grandparents, they take life a lot more seriously.

I actually heard this once from a Christian: "I think we should just turn Afghanistan into one big glass parkin' lot. Fuck 'em! Blow 'em to shit and let God sort 'em out."

In other words, who gives a shit of a lot of people die? God's gonna reward the good Christians and punish the evilders anyway, right? So what does it really matter if we massacre innocent people to get to a few bad ones?

This is atheism.

So what does that have to do with anything?

Are you a practising Christian?

Hellenic Polytheist Pagan...

definition - copious quantities of sex is good... very good. Of course, it does have a much broader definition, but I think that at least covers the main point.
