How about atheism? When people don't believe that there's a fairy godfather watching over them, and that they won't go to a happy place to spend eternity with all their dead pets and favorite grandparents, they take life a lot more seriously.
I actually heard this once from a Christian: "I think we should just turn Afghanistan into one big glass parkin' lot. Fuck 'em! Blow 'em to shit and let God sort 'em out."
In other words, who gives a shit of a lot of people die? God's gonna reward the good Christians and punish the evilders anyway, right? So what does it really matter if we massacre innocent people to get to a few bad ones?
