Cat talk, leash or no leash? My new kitty Buddy had a run in with the nasty bitch across the street

Lil backstory..

So my last cat Lucky was a cat's cat and used to run. He lived for the outdoors to the point that in 2004 I got sucker punched in the temple by the neighbor as he was in their yard and startled their two lil dogs and may have nipped at a dog super fast before running.. as a cat would do when cornered by two dogs.

So he bangs on my door.. one thing leads to another.. soon I am in the middle of the street on my back.. long story..

So Lucky died last fall as you may know after getting bit by a bigger cat. "It is how he wanted it" as Bill8 said. So I got a new lil kitten who has been great and I started taking him out. No leash. He stays close and comes in and is a great lil cat. Follows me around. Journeys only in my yard up until today..

So today I take the garbage out to the front street and Buddy (as cat's do) goes a lil further and goes first in the middle of the street, (very little traffic, private road) and then across the street and under their car in the driveway right when she is there watching. She immediately freaks, "Oh my God, he is under the car, he is under the car."

So I go over, "I dont want that damn thing under my car. What if I should start the car" I said, "well then that wouldn't be your fault"

She, "be a responsible pet owner and always have him on a leash"

We talk a bit, the old man comes out (guy who punched me) and says nothing. I am just polite and tell them I will do my best. She says, "Well put him on a leash, do the right thing"

Mind you I have lived here 12 years before they got here with other cats. Their lot was a field my cats used to run in in the good old days.

Not only did I get punched, I was also served with legal papers three times to try and evict me if my cats were allowed to run.. blah, blah.. Nothing became of it but a lot of headaches for me.

Ok so Buddy soon runs back across the street to my yard and waits for me by the edge of the street. Great kitty. Only 6 months and small as he was starving in a barn surviving only on milk.

So he is a very small. Half the size of most cats. A kitten. She did NOT have to freak in front of her daughter. What an ASSHOLE she is.

So the Q is. Should I have Buddy on a leash his whole life OR do as I have done the last 24 years and let him basicly run? They DO have vaccinations for FLV now days.

I have a cat door where he can go in and out. This is small town/rural living. There is a woods behind their house which is why the cats go that way. Thing is he was a farm kitty but really only wants to be whereever I am. He even follows me to the bathroom all night long. So cute

My feelings are: He isnt going to go far, noone is really hurt and if he runs over there he will come back. So I am leaning towards doing what I always did and Buddy will be fairly free. He will learn as Lucky did not to go in the asshole's yard.

Lucky would go over a house to get by and go to the woods. The other neighbors dont care if he walks thru their yard.

Today, I SHOULD have never went over. Never confront assholes. Silence is golden. I SHOULD have waited for him to come back. But you know me. I am a NICE guy and thought maybe since 2004 things have changed.

Some people have to be assholes. He is using the box very well and will not be going outdoors for that so WHAT does he hurt? Nothing.

They have a little girl about 4 years old who has to be shown the incredible hate for a neighbor and a lil kitten.

For the record, her father is one of the biggest assholes in the county I heard. Super mean. Well the apple doesnt fall far... Her husband is an old farmer and doesnt really care I dont think but of course he has to listen to her bitch.

After writing this I think he will end up being a free cat like all the rest. I doubt he will have the desire to run as Lucky did BUT he WILL run over the next few years. They all do. Lucky I adoped at 1 and 1/2 years old and already ran. Buddy is from a kitten.

After reading YT and people calling guys who put cats on leashes gay lol I sort of agree.

Here are some good quotes I agree with after searching "cats and leashes" at GFY:

J Falcon: "Walking a cat on leash is stupid. Seriously, it's not a dog. I have 2 indoor cats but they go out whenever they want." [I love you bro. You are a man's man]

Ottopottomouse: "Seems pretty mean to keep a cat indoors all the time." [if you are in the country as I amI totally agree]

Deej: Scents... spring... birds... and he wants to digest some grass... [so true and it seems cruel to be shackled to please the neighborhood bitch]

and my fav from a guy with only 31 posts from last April

loopardo: “There is no life without freedom". [that is all he wrote in the post]

I guess Buddy will run. Much to her shagrin.

Shouts to all my cat peeps

freedom for lil Buddy

Cats are supposed to be free. They're wired that way.

Thanks Greg. I appreciate it. My gut feels the same.

I guess this thread boils down to I have to live with the feeling they hate me. But ya know what, they prob hate me anyhow. She (espec) is just that kind of person.

More about my bad luck to have them as neighbors.

ying - yang ..

ying: In 1999 I won $50K (and payed taxes )

yang: they also moved in that year and back then he was REALLY angry. Think maybe I might have to tell a story quickly or two. hehe

Sorry about the long first post but there is no other way to relate this thread properly. This is a common problem and maybe others can learn in the future what to do.

Thanks for reading it all.

Lucky

I will also point out that Lucky (as all my cats) was a great mouser but Lucky was the king.

He brought in about 50 mice a year for 10 years all types. Thus prob left/ate 2 out doors for every one. 1500 mice in a lifetime. There are laws against wood piles and vermin too but this one lil cat did the neighborhood a HUGE service at MY expense as I had to deal with mice and live mice. I let go prob another 50 live ones over 10 years he brought in and darted.

So cats who run do help the neighborhood and do a big service.

Most cats in summer run at night and noone ever sees them or realizes they are even around.

someone wondered in my readings, will a cat ever take on a full grown rabbit? Lucky was a terror to baby bunnies and last year was extra bad as I set about 6 free by driving them a mile away sometimes out of a sound sleep as he brought one in.

And yes I also came home to slaughters on the carpeting...

I felt bad but that's nature.. but yes, I had a cat (all Grey Tabby) who was 17 LBs and stocky who once brought in a fairly good sized rabbit. Had half it's fur missing on a leg but other than that it got out and I think survived.

It isnt all cut and dry but I think bottom line if you are in very rural USA then your cat should be allowed to run a bit. Summers are long.

As Rochard said: Sorry cant find the post.

"let him run, he will find his way back, trust me"

So no big deal. As my professors used to say, "Write it out and the answer will come".

So starts up another cycle of hate froim the assholes I guess.

They are my yang tho. So it could be worse.

Sounds like the bitch across the street is the one who should be on a leash.

A short one.

Growing up in New Jersey and New York my family had a series of cats that came to use through various means and who all liked to go both inside and outside, even in the snow sometimes. But now here in Florida I just make it easy and keep my cat indoors ever since she was tiny. That way she is safe from cars, trucks, dogs, other wild animals and even asshole neighbors. Better safe than sorry.

dude cats, like dogs, are domesticated animals

we'd all like to run free in fields of flowers and have our tummys scratched all day but shit aint like that in 2012

you have a responsibility to be considerate of your neigbours. period.

if you dont want to respect them they wont respct you and shit never gets any better and you get to live in a miserable environment wondering when someone is gonna trap or injure your pet

you cant say your cat catching mice and was doing your community a service unless you dont mind when 'bob' moves in with his dobermans and proclaims his community service is to get rid of all the cats in the area.

I am a huge animal lover. My cats are very content, very healthy, very balanced and they are indoors 95% of the time.

I hear ya and that is the other side of the coin and really why I felt torn. I had considered a leash but I also want to be realistic.

Thing is he is young enough where right now he doesnt beg to go out and only goes out when I say but when it warms up.. Plus I certainly cant keep him in always.

So really it is back to leash or no leash. Cause without it he is gonna dart and I cant really be there watching him always. I guess I can try bringing him back in as I do now. That may work. Then I am with him always. That may work.

otoh the other neighbors on the other side towards the alley have a cat for years who wanders in my direction and yard all the time. Another neighbor told me he was glad to see a cat around. As there are 20 dogs for every cat. Many barking all the time. One terrible barker right next door to me now.

They (the bitch and ex high school wresting champ - true.. little did I know, took me right down.. I regress to 2004) have two dogs who sit and bark out the window constantly at me if they are gone. One time many years ago I lost my temper when they werent around and went up and yelled into the window. Sorry. It didnt change nothing. Kept right on barking

But yeah most people are reasonable and REALIZE that proper neighbor relations are better than fighting over cats.

I let the neighbor who likes cats have all the apples he wants from my huge apple tree. He picked a ton, made wine and gave me some.

Like I said, her father was very mean and angry... the husband seemed to nod at me today like "it is ok" he (a farm guy) realizes this and I think would rather be friends but.. She was all worked up. God I wish I had a video.

Here I am an old man on his own with a little kitty.

Show some love. She has terrible karma.

LOL She is truly a hateful bitch plus she is a RN or such and makes gret money. Only reason he is with her. He sits home as housemom all day. Used to work in a factory. MAN was he angry then.. Now he has mellowed a bit I think when they had their child.

Anyhow there are some angry people out there who wont give an inch.

Thanks Jim, I seen your posts in some of the cat threads

Guess it all depends on location and population density. Certianly in the city it is a diff ballgame.

I lived in an Apt 3rd floor with an outside balcony with my first two cats (Siamese, Sam and Rascal - shouts to BF who I was reading has siamese right now) till they were 8 and 11. I think any shelter is great as it is one cat who is not euthanized somewhere and gets a home.

But some places are better than others. Where I am is made for cats. Basicly I am 200 feet from pure MN wilderness.

Anyhow when they got out here with me in 1987, across the street was a field, they used to run no probs to the woods. No cat is going to look at that woods their whole life without going over there. Noone cared less then. Way less population.

So the point is, reading how Jim has to keep his cats inside in FLA for good reason. Another in Cali has to keep theirs in from coyotes. Thousand situations.

But the odds are so in favor of the cat (any cat) here that I would feel terrible as Otto said, to in my situation keep the little guy in forever. I would be a cruel person. I was brought up in rural MN. Back then noone cared less. Cats run all over.

So I am going to realize that most people agree with me and/or do not care if a cat goes under their car or through their yard.

98% of people would have said, "oh isnt that a cute lil kitty (cause he really is ) but she goes 180.

So sad. And she is an RN. Where is the compassion. The generosity. The flexibility. I listen to your barking and my cat cuts through your yard.. Tradeoff most thinking people can agree on.

But it is her father. She is brainwashed and doesnt even realize tho she has a high iq.

We can not escape our parents esp mother-son and father-daughter.

can u make one of those big enclosures ? like some huge thing that they can run around in ?

u know as cats get older they basically do nothing for 99% of the day. they will surivive fine indoors

makes it harder if they are used to being wild and free though lol

where do you live vjo ?

My girl Oscar likes to run around the yard and stays in her territory. It's like clockwork every morning at 6,being part Siamese she is very vocal and wants out. Bitch doesn't shut up until I let her out,she returns about 10 minutes later and sleeps by my feet until I wake up

Believe me you can live like a king on 80-100K a year as she brings in with a family. And they never go nowhere. Actually she is a specialist who does the wierd test with magnets or such forget the name of the field but they make huge money maybe over 100K.

I used to have terrible anger towards them after he cococked me in the temple in 2004 while I was on my back. Glasses flew 20 ft. After I had just said uncle...

I used to think about revenge..

It is Sat morn, May 8, 2004 at 9am. I am on the computer like now having been in html since 7 the night before.. my brains and bod is fried.

Suddenly I see Lucky run thru the yard and come in like fast. Then I see this guy going after him..

Suddenly KNOCK KNOCK

"If I ever see that fucking cat in my yard again I am gonna KILL it. Do you understand???"

I was taken back to say the least..

...continues as there is yet another back story that leads up to what is going to go down...

OK this story WILL continue for the faithful but I must reply..

Central MN

<--

Answerin PJ too as you both make similiar points..

That would be ideal having a fence. But I find it hard to spend money basicly keeping my cat out of the woods. As I say Lucky did ok last few years as he would not go through their yard. He'd go around and everyday he went to the woods mostly to do his duty.

He would not use the box. Only in winter and only when he got older. He would go out (I kid you not) at -15F to run down somewhere rather than use a box. Be out like 20 mins, come in colder than hell. And I had a good box for him. Just what he was used to befoire I got him. So he got in trouble that way too as he MAY have went in their garden.

But when I moved out here I had a huge garden for the first two years and put chicken wire around so nothing got in. Rather than be a dick.

Noone else, either neighbor or anyone else cares about my cat. Only them.

Coming up.. why he hates me.. when I didnt even know he was fuming...... That is creepy...

Hey Spunky! There ya go. That is all I want. Just to run around a lil without a silly harness.

Fact is he will prob never go over there too much. ALL they have to do is scare him and I told her that but on no she cant do that. It is all on me.

A pack of firecrackers out the door and he is out of there. I will pay for the crackers. I mean there are ways.

But she is just a bitch. Glad I used that word in the title. I was gonna use woman.

Waaaaaaaaaahhhhhh kitty is gonna hurt me.

And her daughter today. Cute lil girl but mom is full of hate. Fact is cats dont shit in the open or middle of the yard. (usually) That is why Lucky was out 20 mins to find a spot at -15 (see above post).

If I had a dig camera (soon) I would post a pic or two so you all could fall in love with him.

Maybe post a pic and tell the folks on YT or somewhere that they are hassling him.

Give em their phone number.

I could have owned his name (domain) but decided not too. (just looked.. his name is still available ) That is why I know he never reads this..

ok the plot thickens.. one last story for you..

Growing up I used to shoot alley cats with an air rifle from my bedroom window in the summertime. Them fuckers will keep you up all night with their screaming when they're in heat.

So two of your neighbors have a problem with the cats? There's the guy that beat your ass, and the registered nurse, right? Also, I didn't even know they made leashes for cats, that's ridiculous.

Do you have wolves out near you?

Hey buddy! Gonna answer you anyhow. Yeah that is what I will do. He should stick around for the "most part". I guess we are gonna see what happens as time goes on.

After what me and "the wrestler" were through I dont think he will do too much anymore, He is damn near 50 soon. I called the cops after our fight... they told him they would arrest him if he comes on my prop.

So it has been like a cold war that Buddy tested today.

Fucken guys moved two years ago to Cali (so nice) BUT returned (nooooooo) after one year as their house wouldnt sell. Fucken bummer.

I got storys I got to tell...

short (as poss) and sweet

Go back 9 years, Feb 2002. Very cold, high 0 to -5, low -10 to -15 all through Feb. About this time one night (Feb 13th) I hear something come thru the cat door. (that is usually closed and into the bathroom) I go in there and there is a cat about 1 and 1/2 LBs starving to death. Feral cat. He took a chance on entering.

What do I do. I gave him a can of boo (cat food) he ate it very fast and was gone.. back into -15. Next night (of course) he was back meowing outside.

From that moment I began bringing out food for him once a day at night .. eventually year round until 2006.

Along the way in 2003 a three legged cat showed up (the three legged boy I called him ) and joined in. Now I am feeding two cats in 2003 right outside my place right in front of my neighbor the wrestler in broad daylight.

Little do I know, cause where I come from helping a starving animal is a good thing, little did I know he is seething watching me feed these strays in broad daylight...

I fed them until one night it was -28 on Feb 28, 2005. I never seen the 3 legged boy again. On March 1 2006 we hit -32. I never seen the origional one after that.

I went out evey night for 4 years with two huge plates of catfood for these strays. After 2004 I went out at night and SNOOK feeding them so neighbors couldnt see me. Sometimes at -20. The water would freeze solid in 15 mins. So I had to go back out and get the paper plates. Evey night in the middle of the night after 2004...

so anyhow little do I know he is seething.....

Back to that Sat morning May 8, 2004 at 9:00 am. I am tired up all night, up till now I knew this guy was a hot head from observing him but thought we were cool.

Picking up where we left off.. So he says his stuff at the door. I should have closed the door but obviously I could not do that cause i knew Lucky would go over again plus I thought we could talk about it.

He also mentions what an idiot I was for feeding these strays cause they are also coming in his yard.

OK fare enough. But I was a lil ornery at him too.

SO he says" I am gonna kill him"

I say, "no you are not"

He says let's settle it out in the street. So I am 6'3 about 280. He is 5' 9, 150 soaking wet.

I thought I could do oK. I am 47. He is 40. I have no fighting experience. He was a state high school wrestling champ from Wisconsin.

I grab him by the neck. BUT my heart was not in it. Less than 1 MINUTE earlier I am on the computer like now. So i dont really squeeze. In my mind I am thinking my size will intimidate him.

He goes under takes me down. BOOM on my back. He is on me.

I say I give. Enough. Im fucking tired too. Been up 14 hours working in html.

All of a sudden right cross to my left temple damn hard. My glasses fly 20 feet across the pavement.

I should have faked convulsions. I am also still in my pajamas. Actually shorts

I had some brain swelling next two days I could feel it. I dont know how MMA guys do it.

So I call the cops, and that starts the cold war.

She was a mjor cunt then too. They told me to get rid of em. And like the guy who was emotional and killed himself after euthanizing his dog, I was emotional and called some people and said they could take him. That will make it all right I was warpedly thinking. I am still in shock. It is noon by now.

I took this photo before saying good bye.

But I came to my senses and tears and called them back and said NO I am keeping Lucky with me.

To HELL with them.

Do you have wolves out near you?
Hey Shotsie. Yeah you got the jest of it. Sorry for so much text Just read what you want folks. Just blowin off steam here.

No wolves around at least not a threat to get this close. If he ran in the woods aways could be some larger animals around but nothing that is gonna come this close.

However, this cat WAS also sprayed by three different SKUNKS in 2004-2006-2008. Ooooh man those are f'n stories.

Lucky was a cat's cat as I said.

Little taste.. First one.. Sept 30 2004 (tough year ) I and lucky step out at 4 am to do something. I spot the skunk on the edge of the yard. Lucky does too. He runs down to the Skunk. Petite tiny lil things and Lucky thought it would be easy pickings.

So the skunk runs to the next yard. Lucky too. I thought f' it and went back inside.

10 mins later he came in to the center of the house thru a cat door and the ENTIRE house IMMEDIATELY smelled like HEAVY skunk.

Cat is freaking out. Runs back out. Finally caught him.

Washed him in pure white vinegar 3 times. All that slightly works is white vinegar. Tomato Juice does didly.

All my clothes everything smelled like skunk. Everything in the bathroom had to be thrown. He got it point blank on the chest and face.

Sleeping was a nightmare. Anything he touched smelled like instant skunk.

He smelled like skunk for 6 months.

The second time in 2006 he got it right outside the front door where a skunk wandered up to him in the middle of the night.

Like being at ground central for some serious stink LOLOL

Maybe I see why the neighbor dude hates me LOL

Cause basicly they were only 100 feet from ground central. LOL If I could hear what they were saying.

I think they think I am John Dillinger or someone. I wasnt thinking of them tho I had my own probs cleaning up a disaster zone.

In 2008 he got a glancing shot about 3/4 strength I think in the woods.

Still was a nightmare tho. Instant skunk!

Thanks buddy. I started the day with that song.. perfect.. one of my favs.

There will be no leash. If he runs over there I'll wait for him to return on my side of the street.

They can't do much if all he does is run under their car for 30 seconds and then return.

She is obviously a miserable cunt...

He sits at home all day with the curtains open 1 inch so he can monitor me all day

Whenever I have a visitor they always tell me, "man that guy across the street is just staring at me". He opens the front door and stares at them.

Fucken people man. If there is a heavon, I sure the fuck dont want to spend it with fucken people.

I always hear this, but I got sprayed by a skunk one time walking through a field at night - point blank - and although I stunk pretty bad, all it took was a shower and running my clothes through the wash to get the smell off. I didn't even have to throw the clothes away.

Different deal tho when it is heavily on fur. Trust me, your cat comes in sprayed by skunk he will smell heavily for 3 weeks no matter how much you wash him gradually wearing off.. but still smell skunky for 6 months if you smell him.

Shaving him would prob help.

I washed towels in bleach and Oxydol 3 times in hot water and the towels still smelled like skunk so I threw em.

I.G.Y. hits the spot today

As Serge once told me by email.. "fuck the fuckers"

have you ever tried to put a cat on a leash? Good luck with that. It's a cat. It's their world you just live in it. Your neighbors just basically suck

Thanks man. That is what I wanted to hear. I have tried.. it did not work at all.

When they moved in, I could see him on the deck staring at my window (altho he could not see me) and I knew he would be trouble. The look of hate on his face.. and he didnt even know me BUT he seen I stayed home all day... jealous big time..

Back then he worked in a factory.. now he sits home all day as housemom as she makes RN money. Still a dick tho.

Do yourself and especially your cat a favour, and him him indoors. You might think its cruel but your cat will get over it. There are simply too many dangers for cats outside. Cars, dogs, stupid kids, asshole neighbours, etc.

Your cat won't like being on a leash. You can try it of course but it will only piss him off and he'll just sit there.

If you absolutely must let him out, go with him, and grab him before he strays too far. Keep him on your property, etc.

It can also help to setup a few cat toys in the hard - a thick heavy rope are easily climbed on, or build him a cat condo out of old wood. He'll climb and hide and play on it instead of going elsewhere.

If you let your cat get away from you it might get hurt or worse and chances are your asshole neighbours will be to blame. Tell them Go Fuck Yourselves for me.

Anyhow it's all good. I heard what I wanted to hear. Thanks guys.

They have each other to talk to (and feed off) I only have..

you But that is the Joker in a game of 500

My mistake was going over there. On my side of the street they cant do zip to me or my kitty. Since it doesnt duty over there who is going to take a threat of "his cat walks through my yard" seriously.

And if they want to start a screaming match in front of their daughter.. that is fine with me.

What are they gonna do? Yell at the cat or me is it.

So whatever. I wish I had nice neighbors but way it goes.

So thanks all. This thread helped.

Let's get happy. From their concert in 2000..

little rural narrative

PJ, you know I dont lie. I have given intimate details of my life..

He didnt beat the shit out of me. Just one hard shot to the temple, luckily not the mouth.

I dont expect anyone to read all this (and if you did, lmk, you are my new best friend )

He was mad cause Lucky nipped at one of his dogs after being cornered on his property as I said and also that I was feeding strays.

Guy was major pissed.

Thanks Mark, appreciate it.

Bold is the plan. I was out with him today. We go out once a day. He comes to me. Problem is he has a radius.. maybe 25 feet.. so I have to stay away from the road or he may run across it as he did. He wants to go back in after about 5 mins.

I have a nice tree he climbs and lots of shrubs ect. Every cat I had the last 24 years here ran. Some not far. Some farther (Lucky).

I like to go out to the lawn chairs in the summer. I live alone. You folks actually think someone who calls himself Catman is going to look at my cat looking back at me through the window? Wont happen.

So things will all be fine

Thanks dudes. Luv ya

I hear what you are saying tho. Hard to believe.

Above I gave him some pounds to make myself look a tad better lol since I am being honest

Fact is he prob about 5'7 140 soaking wet. Short mans complex. He wanted a fight tho. And I was dumb enough. He knew he would take me down then I cant do shit against a state high school wrestling champ. (I looked him up later)

This guy mows with a push mower at 1pm at 102F (shade) 120F+ sun to prove he can altho one year he couldnt and had to go back in lol

He looks like a pint size Randy Couture only more balder and way uglier than Randy. lol True.

I wish I had Randy next door!

She is 6 foot 2 German. He is 5 foot 7 Slavic.

What a pair. No wonder they never go spend HER money. He is embarrassed. His wife is 7 inches taller without heals.

Great huh ladies

She is butt ugly. Big german. Also out weighs him by 100 LBs. He has her around for one reason...

she keeps his uneducated, wrestling ass out of the factory.

He chased Lucky home, I seen him walk through my yard.. so he decided to knock.

PJ for you bro, and anyone who read all this. Another amazing detail...

I knocked up a girl at age 17. Not proud of that but it happened. She had a baby on May 8, 1974...

She soon married another guy and they kept the kid and had more.

He knocked on my door May 8, 2004. Thirty years later to the day. Karma? Maybe.

Coincidence? Probably Ya never know what is in your future. Life is very scary in that way.

First, you have to learn how to tell a story. Take your time, collect your thoughts about everything you want to say, then tell it in the order the events occurred. Seriously.

Second, I can see both sides to feeding the strays, having had neighbors that took to feeding strays but that is where their level of care stopped. The strays now had a 'home' but never got shots nor fixed. Since the neighbors also had a dog, invariably I had litters of kittens taking up residence on my porch. Many places have an 'Operation Catnip' where volunteer vets will spay/neuter strays for a nominal charge, as well as notch one of their ears to let animal control officers know that the cat has been 'fixed' so no need to needlessly euthanize. Also, the SPCA will usually loan you a live trap for catching the strays for this purpose.

Third, if your cat is still young you can train it to be an indoor cat. Indoor cats tend to live longer, plus you need not worry about them getting seriously injured by fighting (isn't that what happened to your first cat?). If you allow your cat to run free, then later try to keep it inside when it wants to go out, it will be much harder to break the habit. Likewise, walking a cat on a leash is just a matter of getting them accustomed to that's how their outdoor forays have to be. Cats are generally very smart and easily trained, but the sooner you start the better.

Incidentally, I have three cats - one goes in and out as she pleases. We live in the country and a portion of the lot is wooded, so she seldom strays from the property. The other two are indoor cats. While one will occasionally get out if the door is standing wide open, he usually just likes to stick his head out. The other shows no interest in going outside and has been known to get under a bush and start crying if he finds himself outside.

All good points. Thanks.

Sorry, I realize I keep adding stuff. But the first post would have been even bigger.

Just adding things I think of. Getting it out of my system. I try to be succint to those who are reading.

The one thing I didnt address (Bold) Actually all my cats about 5 never had a prob running around (most cats never go far) but the last one, Lucky was bit as a young cat (prob the three legged boy gave it to him.. I didnt know in 2003) and developed FLV.. but the ethics of that have been discussed (Bill8 said it best) for Lucky, it is what he wanted.. to run..

He did not die from the cat bite but from the fact that FLV had matured and any serious infection and he goes down quick. So had he not got bit he would have started bleeding (actually pus) from the gums before long and that's it. He was 12 and 1/2. not that old but..

Seemed he really wanted to do what he loved (run) the last year. He would come in and stay only 10 mins and back out. Just wanted a little petting. Nurse and I think he knew he was sick. Cats hide it.

Now days you can vaccinate cats against FLV which I am going to do. Only $20 vet told me.

Also I no longer feed strays. But my heart was good. There are two cats who lived 5 years longer and hurt noone due to me going out 1500 nights in a row incl -20 (espec the three legged boy who prob would have been euthanized)

So I feel my heart was right but I realize there is the other side of the coin for neighbors.

Still I earned my "wings" I feel as I did something kind for a starving animal.

Hey congrats Kittens are so cute. First time I have had a kitten since my first two I bought in the 70s. I didnt know what to expect. I forgot.

He likes to jump in bed and lay on my head which doesnt work cause I cant breath lol, plus his claws got long again and ripped the bottom sheet I see.

He goes under the covers and leans on me till the oxygen runs out.. He freaks out over covers moving and I have to kick him out of bed sometimes.

Basicly all the probs have been sleeping and in bed. Otherwise good times

He sits and looks at the screen with me except he sits right in front of the screen.

He has a "kitty cold" from being in a barn for so long. Simliar to a human cold where his nose get stuffy.

Getting better all the time tho. Got him on human food, fancy feast, dry. He eats like crazy. His fav is pizza (cheese)

Buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my boy

All my (psychological) strength comes from cats and I am whole (and strong) again

I actually discovered I can not be completely alone tho I have been alone (except with one or more cats) for about 37 years.

this song and a push from Beth and Howard Stern is the reason I went out one day and found him tho I had been up all night

i heard the lyrics..

green fields and rolling hills
room enough to do what we will

and it broke my heart, i knew this was the day to find a new boy

Lucky.. every cat has their time

Well that is about that. Thanks to everyone who contributed. I really appreciate it and hopefully I can give you some advice sometime.

I am sure all will be fine. Dont think Buddy wants to run like Lucky but time will tell.

OK you can let this thread fall unless anyone has any other points/questions. I will leave with one song..

I dedicate this to YOU reading this..

someday
when my life has passed me by
i will sit around and wonder why
you were always there for me

Thanks all. My family. Cats are not much help with problems
