I'm hoping someone can help, perhaps an attorney or just people who know people. 2003, Gretna, Louisiana, this bastard beat my friend almost to death (yes, there are hospital records...can you say attempted murder?), woke her up frequently by raping her anally, and worst of all sexually abused and raped her 8 year old son and 4 year old daughter. He also forced them to have sex with each other (yep, he had a gun) and threatened to kill their infant sister, who he kept in a dog pen, if they broke the silence. These events occurred while my friend was at work, and her children did not disclose until a year or two ago. She of course called the police, and the District Attorney, but they did not do anything. He also is a drug trafficker, and she contacted the DEA and FBI, but they claimed jurisdictional problems and did not do a single thing. Also, he had custody of "his" child, no mother contact involved and the son was not allowed to mention her, that we believe was probably abducted. We know he was abused as well. He is 21 or 22 now. Perhaps worst of all is that he has now married and has two very young twin daughters in the home.

Something must be done before this evil bastard ruins any more lives. I have no idea of what could be done to prosecute him, and no clue where to start. A civil suit is of course a possibility, but that would do nothing to protect those kids. Anything you can tell me will help, even if you think it's nothing. Please, let's put this motherfucker away for good.

Somehow i find it VERY hard to believe. Let me get this straight..... a woman goes to the police and attorney saying a guy nearly beat her to death and has hospital records, repeatedly raped her, raped her 8 year old daughter, raped her 4 year old son, forced them at gunpoint to have sex with eachother and nobody does nothing?

Not to offend you but this seems a real hard to believe situation to me.

Well, the children only came forward about it recently. After she got out of the hospital, she took her kids and ran to her home state of MI. She has not spoken to an attorney other than the district atty in Jefferson Parish, LA. He said she didn't have enough evidence on the sexual abuse, and she didn't even try to prosecute for her injuries. I haven't spoken to her in 10 years till tonight, and believe me she is terrified just talking about it. Really, she was having panic attacks. I do believe her. Things like this happen in New Orleans A LOT and nothing much is done about it. Like most survivors, she thinks it was her fault and that no one can help her.

I'd love to feed the motherfucker to the alligators, but she doesn't want murder, she wants justice. As for this being a copy/paste.....like I said, survivors are programmed (by their abusers) to think that no one will believe them. Your statement just reinforces that belief. I've suffered from a hell of a lot of sexual trauma, and have spent years in treatment. It is unreal what people can and have done to children, and most child molesters get away with it. There's a longer sentence for animal cruelty than for the rape of a child.

Serious question: did her story come with any request for help from you, like money or otherwise?

Just sounds hard to believe nobody will do anything considering I know a person who went to jail shortly and served years on probation based on a 20 year old accusation and no physical evidence.

Why didn't the hospital social worker step in the first time? That is what they are there for.

Having said all of that, I hear things are done differently in that neck of the woods, so I don't want to discount her story. Just skeptical.

If true, hang the bastard.

My advice is proceed with caution and refer her to social services or House of Ruth (or any battered woman's organization if that is only a Baltimore thing). They have the resources to see things through, for free (to her).

thank you....and you asked why no social worker helped at the hospital....there wasn't one. It was Charity hospital in the warehouse district of New Orleans, the murder capital of the country (per capita...actually it goes back and forth between NOLA and Detroit). It's the equivalent of the free clinic, and people sit in the waiting room for hours with bullet wounds. It's very "same ole, same ole" there, very jaded workers. I don't know what it's like there now, post-Katrina, cause I don't live there anymore, but I had to go there a few times myself when I didn't have insurance. Not a pleasant experience, I assure you!

It is the hospitals responsibility to report violence. Hell every time I am in the ER they ask if I am a victim of domestic violence. It is a routine question.

Charity hospitals are the ones stocked with social workers. They help patients apply for financial aid so they can stand a chance of getting paid.

Actually, they're very understaffed and underfunded (or at least they were, at the time). Their psych ward was so bad that they had people sleeping in the hallways without seeing a doctor for days.

I was recently in a hospital in Ft. Lauderdale (well, Hollywood) and you're totally right - tons of support, lots of social workers, etc. I think it really depends on the state, and as someone stated earlier, things are done differently in that neck of the woods (Louisiana). At least pre-Katrina, the state and esp. New Orleans were extremely corrupt. The FBI busted NOPD drug rings about every 6 months. And I knew a fair amount of people in NOPD that ran all kinds of illegal shit, from prostitution to murder for hire. Crazee

It sounds like this happened a while ago - Will there be statute of limitations issues?

If money is not an issue I would use a use a PI to gather evidence - Statements from teachers, neighbors, medical staff etc.

Put it all together and present it to social services stressing that there are 2 young girls under threat NOW. If you present it that way rather than a way of seeking justice for what has happened in the past maybe they will listen.

Yes, this happened in 2003. Money is an issue, unfortunately. But that's a great suggestion about calling social services so they can at least keep an eye out for it. Also, I thought he was still in NOLA, but according to his facebook he moved to Idaho in Dec. Don't know anything about the laws there. Thank you so much - I will definitely tell her to call them (or hell, I might just do it myself)..

Child protective services or whatever it's called in Idaho can step in based on a good faith belief that the children with him now are in danger. A prosecutor is looking for proof beyond a reasonable doubt and has statute of limitations concerns. CPS is probably a better bet. They'll need all the evidence you can get them. Names and phone numbers of witness / victims if not affadavits, etc.

I know I am. That FBI and DEA wouldn't get involved makes no sense whatsoever. They probably assumed that she was just some hysterical woman trying to get back at her husband or something. You get that in NOLA (though she's not given to hysterics...) - I've dealt with the FBI there before and have also been summarily dismissed.

a LOT. i think that's part of the reason she didn't go to the police when she was being assaulted - she was hooked too and figured that her claims would be dismissed because of it.

I don't know why someone didn't do something when he almost killed her. Bashed her skull in. She was in a coma, actually had a freaking stroke, and didn't even recognize her children when she came out of it. She has to use a walker. She's 35.

It happened in 2003. It was not reported to the Gretna police until years later, when her kids told her about the abuse. She called the Sex Crimes unit and they referred her to the D.A., who said he did not have enough evidence to prosecute, partially because of the age of the children at the time of the assaults.

And these Gretna cops....The same ones that stood on the GNO and fired live bullets at people - in wheelchairs, children, elderly - that tried to cross over to the West Bank during the Katrina floods. Great cops, yeah.

Their psych ward was so bad that they had people sleeping in the hallways without seeing a doctor for days. I was recently in a hospital in Ft. Lauderdale (well, Hollywood) and you're totally right - tons of support, lots of social workers, etc. I think it really depends on the state, and as someone stated earlier, things are done differently in that neck of the woods (Louisiana). At least pre-Katrina, the state and esp. New Orleans were extremely corrupt. The FBI busted NOPD drug rings about every 6 months. And I knew a fair amount of people in NOPD that ran all kinds of illegal shit, from prostitution to murder for hire. Crazee

If money is not an issue I would use a use a PI to gather evidence - Statements from teachers, neighbors, medical staff etc. Put it all together and present it to social services stressing that there are 2 young girls under threat NOW. If you present it that way rather than a way of seeking justice for what has happened in the past maybe they will listen.

They probably assumed that she was just some hysterical woman trying to get back at her husband or something. You get that in NOLA (though she's not given to hysterics...) - I've dealt with the FBI there before and have also been summarily dismissed.

I don't know why someone didn't do something when he almost killed her. Bashed her skull in. She was in a coma, actually had a freaking stroke, and didn't even recognize her children when she came out of it. She has to use a walker. She's 35.
