I am the single mother of an 8 year old child. My home computer requires a log in before it can complete booting up. The reason I chose to put a password on my computer is because I want to monitor my 8 year old childs internet use. When she is on the computer I am right by her, usually helping her with homework assignments. Her e-mail address is not published anywhere to my knowledge, we have never entered any sweeps and to my knowledge the only people who have her e-mail adress are her father and her friends.

With this information, why is she getting pornographic material in her e-mail box from http://www.legalnudeteens.com ?

I have requested removal well over 2 dozen times. I have called paycom to complain. I have called Visa, Mastercard and Discover to file a formal complaint. I have notified earthlink abuse and aol abuse... what more needs to be done? Why does this loser persue my child and what part of REMOVE do you not understand?

is your daughters email address something to the effect of [name][number] i.e. [email protected]? if so, some list generators build seemingly valid addresses using word/number combinations.

you can set up filters in parental controls or use the mail center to block emails that contain the offending urls.

Unfortunatly there are people who don't care who's getting the e-mails, they just send to any e-mail the can find. If you've tried to be removed but haven't, chances are you never will be. I suggest not giving your 8 year old his/her own e-mail address, unless you review the e-mails first. Sadly the internet is no place for unsupervised children.

There is a good chance that the culprit will never see this post. Hopefully they will, and they will feel a pang that will lead to changes-- but that is optimistic at best.

This is a sad effect of the current love affair with spam. People who use spam to promote don't think about who their emails are getting to, they see it all as numbers, conversions, and how many emails it takes to make each dollar.

I hope you get your child's email address gets removed from the list. I hope the spammers who are sending porn to an 8 year old get in trouble for it. Somehow, though, I think it might be easiest to create a new email account for your child, and be more careful with it. Its a shame that you can't decide what email you get, but it does seem to be the sad truth.

Something you might also want to try is setting up a few *very* restrictive mail filters, that kill all mail containing words like "sex", "porn", "adult", "boobs", etc etc etc

Only way she can be getting this stuff is if someone used it for something, or if got picked up by a spider scaning through peoples email lists.

Someone who shouldnt have her email probably does.

Something just occurred to me: just set up a mail filter that only allows mail from addresses in the address book. That way, you should be able to never receive any unwanted mail.

The most pathetic spammers (oops, all spammers are pathetic) will send out bulk mailings with every possible name combination to a domain, for example, [email protected]. So there really is no "list" for you to be removed from. The best way to combat this is to pick a name that is a combination of letters and numbers that would not show up in any "dictionary" of names, etc. such as [email protected].

P.S. this is just a theory on my part. I don't spam or do a lot of research on spam techniques, so I don't know this to be a cold hard fact, but rather a well-educated guess as I am a network/security consultant for several companies.

Also get some decent quality parental filtering software. This should stop the spamming assholes. EVERY parent should be using it with no exceptions and if they aren't then really aren't taking protection of their children seriously enough.

Another thought, related to what Boneprone mentions... Klez-type viruses spread email addresses around simply based on the address book of the infected computer. That may explain how someone got the otherwise-secure email address.

All of the above listed are already in place. The person who is sending the e-mail is using my childs first name in the subject i.e. "Hi Sally" and each e-mail comes from a different e-mail address.

To the person who suggested that her father is using his childs e-mail address to join a porn site, you have to be kidding right? We are responsible people here and he has his own e-mail address. He does not subscribe to porn sites and if he did he would use his own address.

My only guess is that 2 months ago The Gap [clothing store] requested photos from children who would like to model their clothing sold her e-mail address when she submitted her photos. What porn site would buy e-mail address from a e-mail seller that gets their e-mail from model entries? It doesnt make sense.

Something that can happen is this... Some "spammers" will send .html format emails with images on the email page. These images are "served" from the spammer's server.

What they sometimes do is, send out a MASS emailing to randomly generated usernames @ valid domain names. When an email is opened with images from the spammer, the spammer's server can log this "view" of the images and they can tell that it is a VALID email address.

Then you get added to every other spam list out there, and it will never stop. They will hunt you down to give you more credit card offers, and to refinance your home. I swear I get more NON-adult spam than I do adult spam.

In any case, if this is a possibility, I suggest changing, not opening emails unless you know the person it's coming from.

Do the other thing I suggested. Not let any mail through from addresses that are not in the address book. Only add email addresses from people you know to the address book.

Tracking spam is usually almost impossible, they harvest it anywhere and everywhere, try to guess it, etc. Really no way to find out where they got the address.

Email harvesting technique:

Send out a whole crapload of mail to almost every possible address at any of the well-known email providers. (list generators and such work wonders)

Make sure to include an "unsubscribe" link in your email.

Add all email addresses that are "unsubscribed" to your list.

Voila - you now have a list completely filled with working email addresses.
