It may break the internet but new bill might finally end illegal tubes (in the USA?)

http://act.demandprogress.org/letter...1boDy&rd=1&t=3

[QUOTE]The rumors were true: The new Blacklist Bill could effectively destroy YouTube, Twitter, and other sites that rely on user-generated content by making the sites' owners legally responsible for content their users post.

It also includes provisions that would make it a felony to stream unlicensed content -- including cover band performances, karaoke videos, video game play-throughs, and more.

Time for a few here to hire some lobbyists. No idea what kind of support this has, just saw it.

Best to have permission before you stream anything.

Did they arrest 60 million drugs users in America?

No.

Are people getting arrested and convicted for drugs?

Yes.

Did 100 million speeders get tickets?

The president won't ever sign a law that would destroy Twitter

It's unconstitutionally overreaching -- if it passes as is the courts will strike it down.

It preempts lawful free speech e.g.; the twitter feeds ...

If it is narrowly constructed to prohibit the streaming of "copyrighted speech" and repealing the DMCA on copyrighted works -- it would fly -- the government has a responsibility to protect intellectual property rights.

Not to mention the huge amount in taxes that is not collected on stolen content.

They tried that before many years ago and it didn't work. I think they'll find to many legal loop holes and some judge will like last time find the law unconstitutional and move on.

Protecting intellectual property, the hundreds of millions in lost US profits and the taxes off those profits isn't important?

The only thing on that page is someone screaming "unfair unfair".

Why should it be legal for a cover band to put up youtube videos playing someone
else's music without permission? The original band can allow it if they want it.
Just ask. The cover band spends a week learning each song but they won't spend
5 minutes to make a form letter and mail it out for permission. Why?

It's wild how the same webmasters, who think they can broadcast anybody's music
and video they want for freedom of speech, will shit a brick if they think somebody
copied their website design. Why isn't that freedom of speech?
When's the last time someone filed a copyright for an HTML layout?

I'm all for making an attempt to eliminate piracy, but it's so overreaching its not even funny. It's almost like cutting off your head to cure a runny nose. It's not even hyperbole to say it would destroy the internet.

And who gives a fuck if youtube loses most of their content and disappears. Someone will take their place and do so legally.
