I know you aren't really interested in the facts, but did you know that children are primarily the victims of all dog attacks and don't factor in any higher in to attacks by just Pittbulls?

There's a lot of reasons for this, including size and the behavior of children in general. They're much more likely to confuse a dog in to thinking they're prey or to make a dog feel like they need to defend themselves or their territory.

The city of Winnipeg Manitoba was among the first to try a breed specific ban in regards to Pittbulls in 1990. The number of injuries and deaths by Pittbulls did indeed drop after that time. The number of injuries and deaths caused by dogs in general not only didn't go down, it went up.

In 2000 they changed their legislation to be breed-neutral dangerous dog laws. The number of attacks and deaths caused by Pittbulls remained very low, and the number of injuries and deaths caused by dogs in general has been on the decline ever since.

Once again proving what all the professionals are saying. Breed specific banning does not work to protect people and children from dog bites. Breed-neutral laws do.

So I have to ask again: Why would anybody be FOR breed specific laws when all the evidence points towards it being ineffective? Shouldn't we want to protect people in general from all kinds of dog attacks? Isn't lowering the number of injuries and fatalities from all dogs in general a much better goal?

As has been said many times, it's not "attacks" or "bites" that is the problem and why there is breed specific legislation. Certain dogs cause more deaths, higher medical bills etc. That is the issue. It's pretty pointless to compare how many chihuahuas nip children in the finger and totally murder a child and compare them as the same thing/same problem.

I'm not saying breed specific legislation is the solution. Just saying the issue of "dog biting people" and "dogs killing people" with respect to breeds is comparing apples to oranges.

Of course i agree with that.. but think about what you just said and consider that people like Vendzilla argue endlessly that this is not true. Pitbulls according to him, attack ONLY because they have bad owners. Hence, the absurd back and forth.

Ay sufficiently large dog can easily kill a child. Mostly because children are much smaller than adults and have virtually no hope of fending off a large dog until help arrives. I could name, easily, at least 20 breeds of dog large enough to easily kill a child.

Again, if we want to stop people, and especially children, from being killed by dogs it simply makes sense to approach it from a breed-neutral point of view. Arguing that "Pittbulls should be banned" is not addressing the underlying issue which is aggressive dogs in general. :2 cents:

Pits are very intelligent & high energy dogs. They need to be exercised daily or they get bored and their pent up energy turns into aggression. Too many people get dogs for the nostalgic of having a dog, but aren't responsible owners who provide their dog with exercise, constant rules & socializing them which transitions into love. Dogs are like children in that they need a structured schedule or they act out...tough love is still love.
