Sharky, I definitely don't want to get into telling you how to live your life, but as I have always said, beware of these quick solutions. They can come back to haunt you in a myriad of ways. I speak from experience. I was given Paxil in my late 20s. I felt exactly the same as your post reflects, as if I'd found a solution. I eventually learned a much different fate.

sheesh, Americans are true slaves of corporations!

I agree with MaDalton and all those who think that you can deal with it yourself without any bs pills. Spend some time on reading tips and experiences of other people with the same kind of focus and organization issues, analyze yourself and finally train yourself to be better focused and organized! Don't be lazy! In the end this practice will help you solve tons of other problems without those easy solutions that can actually harm you.

Nah, it just made me chuckle. We're all having a jolly time ripping on some guy for taking drugs to help him with "focus" while some of us smoke marijuana "medically" to alleviate... glaucoma?

that being said, i do think there is a lot of value in eating well. many maladies can be averted through eating right. if i came across as pointing my finger at the op's choice to take adderall, i apologize. |

Yes, the US takes too many pills.

However, that does not mean that the vast majority of these pills don't work and don't improve peoples lives. At the end of the day, modifying your body chemistry is modifying your body chemistry. You do it with diet. You do it with supplements. You do it be taking extra omega 3 oil or by eating more fruit or brocolli or drinking coffee and so on. Adderall works. Plain and simple. I work with a lot of phenomenal sales people including business partners. They are ADD as a motherfucker which is why they are great sales people. But they can't track with a conversation for more than 2 seconds and are almost impossible to manage... the only thing they can do approach people and sell. I also see these people when they are on Adderall and they are totally different people. They are focused, they can actually sit down and read a book, they can stay on track when they talk, suddenly they can listen, they can sit and do nothing without having the constant nagging feeling that they always need to be somewhere else doing something else. If you don't like Adderall.. then don't take it. But unless you have a serious issue with ADD, which is basically going to make you unemployable, then you shouldn't have an opinion about it. Bunch of broke morons on a porn forum talking like you have masters degree's in neurobiology. Funny how people can be so upset that others finally get their lives back and can start to realize their own potential and are excited about it. |

it's also against the entire system. where would the average american learn, without going out and finding the information themselves, about food being the starting point? i'd wager Sharky's physician did not suggest that. no tv commercials advertise that either. in fact, in the bit of googling on this i did, most doctors say food should supplement a medicinal solution for adhd. |

I was diagnosed at a young age. I have some tips.

	- When working on anything, focus on that task only. Close any unnecessary tabs in your browser, put your status to "away" on IM clients, turn phone on silent, etc. - Unsubscribe from any email newsletters, updates, etc that you never read anyway. - Remove clutter from your computer desktop and form your actual desk. Here's a good book to read: http://focusmanifesto.com/ Here is the author's blog: http://zenhabits.net/archives/ |

Welcome to the Cam_Girls Productivity Organiser System!

![]() I not only designed this system, I use it! And I've never looked back! Literally everything you could imagine slots into the right section no matter how big of an entrepeneur you are! Start by setting up 3 directories on your drive, I use a USB stick for simplicity, easy backup and portability.
ETC is for old existing files, winzip install, zips,.. ORGANISE is the folder heirarchy where everything important goes STUFF is a quick save folder for anything LIKE SO.. ![]() Let me know when you've set that up and I'll show you how I setup the subdirectories in the ORGANISE folder! |

I don't have ADD but used to take 5-50mg/day for a few years. It was great for slamming out 8-hour work dumps. Until it wasn't...

So long as I had my basic work-plan on paper before I took a single pill, things usually went very well. Never had more fun working in my life! Music blasting, tasks doing themselves, making 50k/mo, in my 20's and full of pharma-grade speed. Loads of side-effects, especially for non-ADD folk taking higher doses. Very ugly in the end. |

I took Adderall once because a friend of mine got it prescribed, she told me it was fun and so it was. We partied all night and into the next day, couldn't seem to get drunk no matter how much I drank and I could carry a conversation like a pro. I wonder what other drugs have that effect...?!? Heh, like I said, was fun, don't get me wrong, but I would not take it as a help to ADD or ADHD.

I do, yoga, meditation and plenty of cardio to burn the nervous energy. Also like a few people mentioned here, follow a simple and healthy diet without all the additives, fructose, etc. Not knocking it Sharky, if it works for you, then go for it but try and figure out other, more natural ways to focus. Maybe do a research while on Adderall lol, should help you focus on finding an answer ;)

I don't believe this is a long-term solution for me at all. However it is helping in the now. DJ The Kid, Your suggestions are very good, as are some others. I think Cory mentioned the diet as a huge factor. I agree. I've made quite a few changes to my diet, working and sleep patterns. Exercise is a contributor as well.

The fact is, now I am able to be more productive, work on my organization and still make these other changes in my life. I'm keeping a daily log of how I feel, side effects I may experience and my overall reaction to the medication so I can discuss with my doctor at my follow up in a few weeks.

That keeps your work organized, not YOU. I don't know anyone that works online that doesn't keep a folder/drive with work files, life, etc within them. But again, that has nothing to do with keeping your tasks/jobs, etc organized. What you have within those folders, is to do lists though - which do help. But that can be done on a notepad, a to do list on a phone, etc. The folder structure doesn't help with those. And no amount of folders or lists create motivation which is the ONLY time any of us get anything done is when we're motivated to do it. Organized or not, lists or not...

I was diagnosed with ADHD in third grade - but it wasn't covered by our insurance at the time, so no chemicals for me. Luckily, I attended a really killer school system that had really strong counselors on staff that helped me develop tools for managing it.

Sharky, over time, you can build that level of focus. I do agree with MaDalton that one of the most important things you can do for yourself is sleep - and it's all too often the thing that we neglect first. I have a daily/ monthly system I use - I have found that in order to manage myself, I am incredibly task-oriented: do this, then this, then this. If I don't break it down into step-by-step, timed tasks, I lose track and things don't get done. If I need to do it tomorrow, I put it in the file for tomorrow, or if I need to follow up in a month, I put it in today's slot, so when I get back to it next month, it's waiting for me. If it's a same-day follow-up, I set an appointment for myself, and schedule my day around that item, with blocking out time for each task, and an alarm to tell me "time to move on." I've had people tell me this makes me undisciplined and too reliant on outside factors, but on the other hand: I get shit done, it works for me, AND it helps me keep my work day to a manageable time frame so I'm not neglecting my family and loved ones. Keep us posted!

There are a variety of different methods for dealing with ADD that don't require prescription drugs... For me, reruns of old movies or shows on tv in my peripheral vision provides my ADD with a nice distraction and I can focus on the task at hand damn near 100% of the time. It absolutely has to be reruns though... I imagine it's different for everyone but that is something I've found to work very well for me.

The problem with prescription drugs is that you'll just develop a dependency on them. Even if they aren't chemically addictive you'll never actually learn how to deal with your ADD WITHOUT the drugs and the longer you stay on the drugs the more difficult it will be to relearn how to cope with your ADD while not on the drugs... IMO anyway...

I said your work files go in the INTERNET directory, I assumed everyone has that part organised already. It's more than just a 'personal' section, you can allocate anything as the 5 levels are a collectic of human endevours. Say you get some paperwork on a police charge, ORGANISE / SOCIETY / LOCAL GOVT easy! It helps you sort all the goings on in your mind by allocating into the 5 levels. ![]() Here is my INTERNET folder with work and other goals online, most of these domains are just at the wish list stage... ![]() |
