Time for a new bbq grill....
This is finally the year I'm going to break down and by a new grill for my deck. My 10 year old Broilmaster is way out of date. I'm looking for suggestions. Natural gas or able to convert to it... at least 650 sq inches of total cooking surface.

Go infrared and you'll never go back !
It saves you a ton of gas because it heats up really fast and you can put the steaks on within a minute while the other part of the grill heats up. The infrared doesn't cook meat all the way it sears in the juices then you move the meat to the lower temp part of the grill ! |

What's wrong with your oven?
Get a Weber Kettle and a bag of charcoal or don't bother. |

Agreed! It takes a little time to get it ready but it works perfectly, gives great taste and smells good.

Grills with gas should be banned. Weber is the way to go and do it the old way.

Once I tried the woodflame I was sold.
It's a battery operated BBQ that burns wood to cook your food by blowing hot air from the bottom up. You can have all kinds of smoked taste as you can burn many different type of woods like cedar or pine... Seriously check it out, I have been making the best tasting meals on this bad boy http://www.woodflame.com/en/ No Gas, No Charcoal, It's Portable and Ecological Great for camping or at home.

propane is up to 4.75 a gallon. I'd much rather get a charcoal one now a days. Better taste too. Nothing like some good barbecue. Slow cooked up some pork ribs for 3 hrs 2 weeks ago. Best ribs ever! Got the meat at costco.

Since we're on the BBQ topic and I recently started BBQing, what does it mean when they say 'indirect heat' in a recipe for grilling on the BBQ?
And yeah I was told Weber and Bull are both very good brands.

It means you don't have flame/heat directly under the meat, but instead place the meat on one half of the grill, and turn up the burners on the other side. So it cooks similar to an oven.

Inderict = not direct
coals on 1 side meat on the other For example, those porkchops you see up there or anything I cook indirect like chicken never gets turned or flipped usually when using the indirect method with the lid on. The heat and smoke bounces back down off the lid which is concave. So basically its as easy as pie. Get your coals nice and grey, put your chicken on the oposite side of the coals, put the lid on and come back in 45 mins and take a peak and it's probably ready. remember until you get good judgement its better to under cook and have to put back on no one wants a dried out pork chop chiicken breast! |

Thanks for the offer. I just emailed the company and hopefully they have a retailer out here. I would be out the door buying one this afternoon. Took a look at the demo video and am totally impressed.

Sad thing is.. I'm allergic to mesquite! And worse than that.. I lived in Texas for about 6 years when I was young... place is loaded with mesquite.

Got home from work last night -- and I threw a couple of Licks burger on the grill for dinner. Had some potato salad and hot peppers as well.
It was very nice ![]() Going to grill some chicken this weekend -- I marinate it in a tikka paste for 24 hours, and then BBQ it. Serve it with a raita and a garlic naan -- very tasty! |

Actually the main times that propane is a big waste is if you have an enormous BBQ grill. 95% of the time are you really cooking for more than 3? I've always used a smaller one for "daily" type use and have a big one for as needed. Firing up a giant grill when you can make due with one half the size MOST of the time is just a waste.

Cedar is used a lot for salmon in restaurants (cedar planks) and probably steaks too. Personally I don't care for the taste. As far as pine.....I just can't imagine a less desirable wood to want to cook with!! Except marshmallows ;)

I've seen Vermont Castings mentioned twice in this thread. That's the brand the place my grill came from 10 years ago (along with my gas fireplace insert and my patio furniture) recommend based on what I told he about our usage. He said that or a Lynx. Going this afternoon to check a few out. They have a big memorial day weekend sale. ...free assembly, free delivery, free conversion to natural gas, etc. PK
