How To Spy On My Network Users?
OK ... I'm not usually the intrusive type. But I'm paying a guy to do work for me in the office here (related to my offline biz) and he is as SLOW AS FOOK. I pay him peanuts, so maybe that explains it, but I'm wondering if he's pissing-about online when I'm paying him by the hour.
Is there anyway I can check on what he's doing? I have a Belkin network with a wireless adaptor connected to his pc. Is there any software I can get to help out? On another score, is these legal and ethical? If not, then I will let it alone. But, the way I figure it, if the guy is jerking around on my time I have a right to know. He just tells me he's going as fast as he can. |

not sure of the legality of checking on your employees internet use but if you want to see what he's doing put something like VNC on his puter so you can just connect see what he's doing in real time and then disconnect. not sure of any pieces of software that run on the network to monitor network usage.

even easier and more ethical .... just login to your belkin router try theese IP's in your web browser
192.168.1.1 192.168.0.1 10.1.1.1 or just check your owners manual most all cosumer routers come with a built in logging feature just log into the router enable logging and check it tomorrow this will give you a run down of every site visited etc |

VNC is prolly very noticeable to the end user.
Why not just look at his PC after work hours? Ctrl H will give you history for IE. If he clears history every day, that's a big message. Assume you are not locked out by employee password changes. Always make sure you have an admin account and a couple others that will give you access to the PC. |

Remote Admin will do the trick...
Put it on both machines, a little simple configuration, and you can pull up his screen/activities in realtime to your monitor without him knowing it.. Watch everything he does.. Does more too, but that's what you're wanting.. And if it's your computer he's using.. and he's working for you, you're good to go legally.. |

ah, be careful on that one... i think in the US you have to have an employee sign an agreement telling him that they may be monitored and it has to be specific, like email, surfing... maybe you can just say all computer usage may be monitored, but i would ask an attorney for sure... i wouldnt want to fire a guy after discovering something and then have that employee come back and sue me... and even worse, win... ![]() |

Yep ... and having him sign something SHOULD deter him from actually slacking off. So ... either way I win.
