Filipino designers = the best in the world?

Who else can provide quality galleries from $1 to $10 a pop? Besides the price, the skill level is pretty damn good. Plus, many aim to please. Can anyone think of a reason NOT to use free-lance filipino graphics designers/submitters? Is there NOTHING these guys can't do?

I'm talking about freelancers not outsource company-based guys.

I like my Samar (sp?) guy's work so much I'm thinking of petitioning him and his family to the US. Of course, I'd have to pay him more but even if I pay him standard US pay for the quality of his work and amount of time he puts in($75K a year), it would be microscopic compared to the amount of money this guy's design and php work creates for me and my friends. Besides the $ (which is not an issue), can anyone here think of any problems resulting from me petitioning this guy to the US?

No feedback on this? I notice a lot of Filipino designers posting on GFY now. And I don't mean Proadultoutsourcing....

Coming from the Philipines, he/they're gonna have to pass some scrutiny, thanks to all the wackos running around in the jungle out there. But good luck all the same.

I guess that jungle crack was supposed to be racist. All I know is from what I've seen of Flip work ethic, they really put all their heart into what they do--from the crew at McDonalds (Houston, L.A. and Daly City. From what Ive seen) to nurses to offshore designers/IT workers.

I just hope if my petition succeeds, my Flip employee doesn't become lazy all of a sudden.

What I can't understand is, how did all these Philipino people all of a sudden learn IT, design, etc in a 3rd world country with no technological advances.

http://www.philweavers.net/ They list portfolios, contact info, and you can negotiate with them directly. Most are mainstream so you'd have to train a little bit to get them to the porn side but once they're in, these guys are well worth the time. Plus, you don't have to go through an outsource company. You have to be very careful though, I have hired about 3 filipinos directly before my current guy but fired them all ASAP cuz they couldn't deliver on time. Don't put up with laziness, bullshit, and excuses and you'll find a guy that will provide top notch quality ontime all the time.

Most of the time, Filipinos will give you respect if you're professional and don't fuck around (ie., fire at the earliest sign of bullshit). The ones who stick with you will be priceless.

I suggest you start them off low ($300 is a good place to start then ramp it up) then pay them more as they hit skills/quality milestones

Fuck if I know. All I know is they do the shit I need done for low prices. Finding good ones will take some effort. I've run across a couple that tried to assrape me But that shit happens anywhere Russia, Romania, Bangladesh, etc. I just fire motherfuckers at the earliest sign of laziness or bad attitude.

It's like anything... most good people will respond to rewards. The ones that don't, tell em to fuck off and find better ones.

The guy I'm thinking of petitioning is fucking solid gold. He didn't hit me up for that 13th month mandatory bonus shit they have in philippines. I sent him 3 months' worth of salary as a bonus when I read about it here on GFY. Some guy posted about the 13th month thing here and was bitching. I confirmed it with my guy so I went ahead and gave him a fat bonus.

Good help is hard to find so reward them well. Of course, you gotta test them first. If they are flaky, lazy, or incompetent, fire ASAP and find someone deserving.

This shouldn't be your concern. Technology is technology and people who can read english can learn that shit. I don't care whether they are in Timbuktu, ulaan bataar, atanarivo, Manila, panama city, or dhaka. Cheap it labor is everywhere.

What you should be concerned about is when these guys start turning into webmasters (ie., actually competing with you for traffic and conversions). Since I own my own programs (both public and private ones) I have no problems with that. Many of these guys will ultimately wake up and realize that the real big money is not in working for someone else but working for yourself. Of course, its not easy working for yourself (those of you who started with jack shit in your pocket know this) so many will remain employees and make money for others. That's okay with me... I pay well anyway.

The guy I outsource all my design/php/traffic shit to makes over $4K USD a month (not including bonuses). That may be shit wages in the US (Hell, I lived in both SF and Manhattan and 4K won't last long there). I started him at less than 300 bucks a month and he's proven himself many times over.

I do need my worker in the US though because its a bitch communicating over differing time zones

Thanks for the info. I hope there's a flight from Manila to Samar because I'd hate to have to take a boat. LOL Yeah, the guy is gold. He makes me a ton of money. The only outsourced guy I've dealt with that actually knows how to create and convert traffic. His traffic scripts work and his designs convert at a steady rate. The reason I pay him $4K a month (I might have to up it to $5K or even more) is I don't want him to get the idea that he can actually make 100K+ a month working for himself if he owned his own program

You got that right. I started him off at $200. He didn't complain but just produced quality shit on time. I kept upping that shit because I actually like to give back to people who prove their value to me. I doubled his $2K to $4k when he came up with a traffic script tweak that pumped his galleries' per click production sky high. The guy also comes up with a shitload of new suggestions on how to keep increasing conversion. Solid english skills and not once has he tried to fuck me or steal ideas or try to work for my competition (ie., double timing--working for 2 clients full time LOL). This guy is SOLID GOLD that's why I'm busting my attorney's ass trying to get him and his wife and kids to the USA.

I had a filipino guys do some design work. Among the best - but I paid him $10/banner and I think $20/gallery. Great stuff none-the-less.

Well the only experience we had with a Filipino designer was he would create a graphic and then ask to borrow $50. It also didn't help that he had NO access to highspeed and expected us to email him photos of less than a few KB.

I'm mean I'm not a Hindu pornographer. My stuff is produced with something other than a cell phone camera.

that's what 3rd World countries are about, 70% live like shit and don't have enough money to even buy a PC, 5% live like kings and have more money they can ever spend, and the rest 25% are the ones that'll do all your designs 24/7 for 1000 bucks a month ;)

Hi, filipinos usually migrate to the US because of the money they could earn there, not because it's a fun place to be. I'm sure your employee would appreciate a substantial pay raise much more than a relocation :-)

im not much of a forum poster.. id like to keep my opinions to myself and im very much happy just reading about other people's thoughts.. But seeing this thread i know i just have to express how proud i am of all of my filipino co-designers.. Modesty aside, i think we filipinos draw our artistic nature from our colorful culture and our ingenuity is brought about by how our race has withstood all the trials and tribulations throughout history. I am very much happy that filipino creativity has not gone unnoticed to the rest of those also in this industry. FILIPINO PRIDE!

most, not all may make great galleries but when it comes to the text a lot of time it barely makes sense.

Filipinos are skilled and competitive workers inspite of being lagged in terms of technology.

you found someone and that is great, but it took you a long time and several other people first before you found him. it is not like you just picked someone up off the street and he had skillz.

sooner or later you will find someone. i got nothing against filipinos. i am filipino and i am going there later this week, but whether they be filipino, dutch, ukrainian, you are bound to find some that are good hard workers but also a bunch that are great only in their mind and will bullshit you to get money from you with little work.

maybe things have changed in the last year, but i have dealt with many filipino designers who have told me they can design a tgp. ok so design one for me. and they send me a freaking tgp gallery!

i even had one go so far as to ask me "what site do you like the look of?" so i tell him and he emails me back a design that is basically a copy of the site with a different color scheme. even the freakin copyright information was copied!

you found someone to work with, that is great. pay him well, treat him well.
