Well Who told me that candidhosting was a solid company?

I'm with candid since around 1 month and I had now 5 downtime with them.

Each day I'm afraid to check if my server owrk or not.

Who can explain me it?

I thought that Candid was a solid company but I was wrong

i once worked at a large company that hosts with candid, and the 1 thing i hated about my job was having to deal with candid.

Yeah, only last week I posted a message saying how reliable Candid Hosting is. Well, let me take that back. Since that time I have initiated a move to www.strictlyhosting.com ( zero downtime with Project Voyeur for 2.5 years! )

I have had nothing but problems with Candidhosting and their technical support has been very poor over the past 7 days.....

Not sure what's going on internally there but it appears they rely on one guy and the rest of the 'tech' support don't even have ROOT passwords for your boxes....

And now to make matters worse I cannot even FTP into my box anymore... and the website is up and down like a yo-yo.

and and and tech support is getting worse....... :-(

Heck, maybe you should check out Choopa - http://www.choopa.com I've been with them for 8 months and my sites haven't had any problems with downtime, very stable network. They also have some pretty cheap prices. I've been very happy with them.

There's nothing worse than seeing your site down. I think that'd be the ultimate torture, being tied down to a chair facing your server, watching someone turn off the power to it and have to sit there knowing that your sites are all down, he he he.

I dont see any down time on my mrtg but I do believe you guys. Maybe its only part of their network ? When CE is down next time see if candidhosting.com is down too..

What ??? There's nothing low about a recommondation. I can assure you that I have NO affiliation with them other than a dedicated server hosted with them. I won't see one cent if anyone joins up with them, so I'm not trying to spam or anything. I'm happy with Choopa, so I figured that I'd give my advice.

I know what it's like to have an unreliable host with uncalled for downtime. My old host, who I won't name, was charging me $675 MORE than I'm paying now and their support REALLY blew. I could only deal with one person down there, who handled my account and he rarely called me back. Then they allowed someone to hack into my server, cutting off my FTP access for ONE WEEK. Sure, I can see that it's common for some servers to have loopholes in their system, but taking ONE WEEK to get me back in, was uncalled for. I guess that paying more doesn't always mean better quality.

Anyways, I was just tossing my 2 cents into the matter, giving friendly advice, NOT trying to spam, sorry if you took it that way.

I seriously considered Candid, but ended up with xxxwebhosting.com ...

Mostly because xxx has a no down time guarantee ... if they're down for an hour ... they have to give you a 10 percent discount on your bill ...

I hadn't seen a hosting company do that ... and I figured since they put it in writing .... there wouldn't be any down time ...

So I went with xxx ... and so far so good ...

I switched from Servint to Candid about 2 years ago. When I first switched there were problems because of Level3 which is one of their peers. They dont have any control over that company so it took a few weeks before Level3 upgraded to handle the traffic. Since then its been smooth sailing. I can easily live with a week or two of flakey problems every two years. Compared to other services they have really shined. I wont defend their tech support though. A little hint.. make sure you have your root password because anyone in their support can help you if you have it.

I dumped Flash Host months ago. They didn't even answer the phone or emails ...

I have been with candid for a little over a week now on a dedicated box. I haven't had any downtime, however some of their tech. support is good and other times they give "one word" replies. I find this unacceptable being a customer. They need to get rid of those bozo's and get some real support involved.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but MRTG is bandwidth monitoring software. Just because you see a dip in your bandwidth, does NOT mean that your host is down.

Perhaps you should learn a little bit more about the OS that your machine is running and see if maybe it's your MACHINE that's down, instead of bitching about your host.

Yeah ... their support is tops. I've gotten people on the phone late at night and on weekends too.

I guess you get what you pay for. But I did hear that xxx might be lowering their rates. It's an unsubstantiated rumor at this point ... but definitely something to watch for the future.

Price is a definite factor. If you call Candid support cause your server is down they are going to fix it ASAP - people will be gotten out of bed if necessary. If you call to change the color of the fonts on your stats, your gonna wait. The price you get cant be beat but they expect you to be able to admin your own server like a big boy. I can honestly say candid is the first host I ever used where nobody complains about download times. As long as that stays true and the price is right.. they are my host.

If you need babysitting and you dont mind paying for it - you should go elsewhere.

This is actually much easier to do than it seems (again, if you know what you are doing). I guess the only downside is that you need more servers.

I used to be with xxxwebhosting, but at $4.00 a gig overage, it would have been way too expensive. And honestly, sometimes I had to wait quite a while for tech support to reply to a help desk ticket. Maybe it was just me. However, they really have it set up well for a newbie to understand shit at first, maybe that's why they have high prices, I dunno. These are just my experiences with 'em.
