Correct me if I'm wrong, but MRTG is bandwidth monitoring software. Just because you see a dip in your bandwidth, does NOT mean that your host is down.
Perhaps you should learn a little bit more about the OS that your machine is running and see if maybe it's your MACHINE that's down, instead of bitching about your host.
