Ray Mercer is a great fighter .. i'd watch that fight
|
Will be interesting to watch for sure
|
This will be one huge joke.
I'll watch it for sure. |
mercer = over the hill
|
im far from an expert in this but i say he will win
|
I really feel sorry for Mercer. He's 46 years old, and is a washed up boxer.
Kimbo has been training with the Avellans down at FFA Miami, one of the TOP schools in Florida. It's gonna be so one sided, and I can't wait to see Kimbo turn Pro! :) |
That Kimbo guy is nothing but a big bastard. He's totally amateur...I saw a few vids of his fights..well he can beat guys but he's not a good or trained fighter..he'll loose unless it's cheating
|
Kimbo may catch a beating that will end him in this fight

ok looking at this im not so sure anymore |
Hello, this is Marcos Avellan, one of the head instructors of FFA. Kimbo Slice will be making his pro MMA debut versus Ray Mercer this June in the CFFC 5 event. Ray Mercer is a former WBO Heavyweight Champion and Gold Medalist boxer.
To answer a few frequently asked questions... Kimbo trained with FFA on and off for the past couple of years for bareknuckle boxing techniques. We had never trained for MMA - rather we worked on boxing, elbows, striking from the clinch, etc. Kimbo, despite what many people think, had never trained consistently before. He has a busy schedule and hadn't made the mental commitment before. Now he has decided to commit 100% to professional fighting and is taking the plunge into MMA. Considering his background is pure striking, he is taking a tough first fight. Most fighters from established camps take easier fights for their first few. Keep in mind, Kimbo is still a white belt. That being said, we have about three months to prepare for this bout. Kimbo will be coming in FANTASTIC shape and will be ready to take out Mercer. Kimbo has solid striking technique and incredible power... with guts to match. He is working MMA with black belts David Avellan, Efrain Ruiz, and myself. For his boxing, he is working with FFA striking coach Eric "El Tigre" Castanos (three-time kickboxing world champion and boxing coach of Jermain Taylor). He definitely will be trained properly for the fight. I'm very excited about this match up, we started training about ten days ago and the man is on a serious mission. Sincerely, Marcos Avellan |

Nice letter :thumbsup he's much more a bouncer than a real fighter....I belive that he'll be training a lot (with the best instructors he can have) but he's VERY slow for being a pro IMO. |

Remember Tyson gave up the heavy weight belt so he didn't have to fight this guy with gloves on |
seriously though this isnt a big risk for kimbo because mercer doesnt have much of a ground game either. So these two will stand up and bang it out most of the time and should make for some good action. It's really going to come down to who can take who's punch better than the other. I'd put my money on mercer, he had a chin when he was a pro and has taken many many more hard punchers. But really this one will be entertaining if nothing else.
|
I am impressed. Mercer certainly has a more distinguished list of guys he's fought, than Kimbo. This will finally end the string of nobodies Kimbo has taken on. I look forward to this one!

Striking is only one part of the equation. Kimbo is training at FFA Miami, one of the best grappling schools in Florida. I've personally watched David Avellan beat Rener Gracie in a submission grappling match. If for one second you think that FFA isn't training Kimbo in taking Mercer down, and ground and pound, you need to learn what MMA is al about. Go watch UFC 1 - 4. See what happens when strikers don't know the ground. Get back to me. |
i want to see kimbo get his ass handed to him.. has there been any worthwhile fights?

thats the point :winkwink: I hope it's gonna be the bloodiest match ever... |

Yeah maybe if Mercer were 20 years younger he could defend himself. This is going to be an unfortunate event.. Not good.. Poor Mercer.. Why would he do this.. Mercer doesnt need this.. It just helps Kimbo putting his name out there more on a map destroying a former boxing household name. Just nothing for Mercer to gain. Sad.. |

Do you think that Mercer isn't taking a single lesson of groundfight? Kimbo might be brutal like an animal but he wont be pro in some months...that 's just not possible..even if he wins |

This will be lame and embarassing for Mercer. |

This will be very bad. |
id like to see tyson fight kimbo
ant what do you think about that fight? |
Two Boxers using MMA rules, How is this going to work? Again they are BOTH boxers they aren't going to choke each other out!

he's a fucking B fighter now... and chuck is a great counter fighter and one of the greatest to keep you on your feets with Mirco... that guy dosen't have the kind of training chuck does. Chuck is actually a great ground fighter. Get real. |

I'm not taking away that he's an athlete. I'm saying he won't be able to make the change from boxing to MMA. He's too old, too many ingrained habits from boxing. Whether I'm wrong, we'll find out in 3months. As for Ground and Pound versus Liddell.. I BET YOU WHATEVER YOU WANT THAT YOU HAD NO IDEA THAT CHUCK LIDDELL WAS A WRESTLER BEFORE KENPO AND HAS A BETTER WRESTLING WIN RECORD THAN TITO ORTIZ. Anytime you need to get schooled MMA, lmk. |
