Don't Ask Don't Tell repeal fails!

With the 56-43 vote, Democrats fell short of the 60 votes needed to advance the legislation.

that's good for the gays in the long run. At some point this country will have a draft again, and they won't have to go get killed at some useless war.

Another promise broken by the current administration. But at least the recession is over.

TheDoc 09-21-2010 03:51 PM

It would have went through if the Dream Act crap wasn't attached to it... it failed because assholes tried to attach bullshit legislation with it thinking people would just vote yes because of the nature of the bill.

Tempest 09-21-2010 03:58 PM

Nice to see that the US military can subvert the constitution that they're in place to defend. i.e. Didn't some court say that the law is unconstitutional?

Yeah, sucks to break a promise when trying and work with congress/military on this, sucks they hold the cards. In the reverse, if it was the other side the idea wouldn't have ever made it to paper.

I'll take the failed promise attempt over no attempt at all... and yeah, glad the recession is over as well, nice to see things slowly turning around.

It's nice to see when there is one president in power, the liberals call bullshit but when they have their own in power, they rally around him like dogs and believe anything he says, especially if all of the evidence points to the contrary. But nobody claimed those morons know anything about economics. :)

What's funnier is those moronic liberals parade as "objective 3rd party voters"

What did he say? Who rallied up and supporting him here? What are others believing he said that he lied about? Evidence to what? What economics are we talking about here? I couldn't find the quote, "objective 3rd party voters" who said this or anything related to it?

Just trying to figure out wtf the point of your post was.

Obama said the recession was over. Your response? "Yup, glad that's over". It's hilarious how easily you criticize the conservatives but when it's a liberal doing the talking, he MUST be telling the truth. It's also hilarious how you don't think for yourself or do any kind of economic research. 9.6 unemployment rate before you even adjust it, which would put it around 16%. Every month Obama reaches a new high for debt as well as trade deficit. Consumer spending is at an all time low, the dollar is still kicking the bucket, but yea, we're out of the recession doc:thumbsup

Actually, you may be on to something here. You're right, we are out of the recession. We were "out" a year ago when we entered a depression.:1orglaugh

It is not the military and it is not the Congress...nor is it a lower court judge that determines the constitutionality of laws...it is the Supreme Court that decides what is constitutional and what is not...and they ruled many years on DADT.

And yeah, we're out of a recession.. consumer spending doesn't have to be normal, dollar doesn't have to be rocking, jobs don't have to return right away - and yes, the recession can still be over with all this.

Again, get your ass back to school, educate yourself.

It depends on what you call a depression. Ironically, it's the mainstream economists who believe we were ever in a recession and are now out.

Yea, those are the same people that believe stimulus spending and quantitative easing is the answer to our prayers. Basically, the same morons like Greenspan and Bernanke. Or they're trying to raise consumer confidence with these random announcements, as well as constantly downgrading the economic outlook. It's a shame that the bullshit isn't working because the only thing they're getting out of the stock market is low volume trading.

Uhhh, yeah... fair trade, for sure.

From my brief look into it, the supreme court has not upheld it as it wasn't directly challenged. What was challenged was whether or not the governement could withhold funding from universities if they refused access to recruiters based on DADT. However, the recent court ruling is a direct challenge to it... Am I wrong in this? Never looked into its history before.

Quote:

Considered a rare and extreme form of recession, a depression is characterized by its length, and by abnormally large increases in unemployment, falls in the availability of credit—quite often due to some kind of banking/financial crisis, shrinking output and investment, numerous bankruptcies—including sovereign debt defaults, significantly reduced amounts of trade and commerce—especially international, as well as highly volatile relative currency value fluctuations—most often due to devaluations. Price deflation, financial crises and bank failures are also common elements of a depression.

Well you said that Obama said the US is out of a recesion whereas he's just relaying what the "experts" tell him.

Regardless, no one really knows where things are heading. They all have lots of ideas and opinions but something could happen tomorrow that could blow it out of the water. If they get it right they slap themselves on the back and tell everyone how brilliant they are and if they get it wrong they make up some excuse like they didn't take into account xyz. Both sides do the same thing.

No, many intelligent people have a great idea where we are heading. We have astronomical debt and we hardly are a manufacturing power anymore. We are now a service economy, which means our trade deficits will keep on growing. The morons in congress and mainstream economists practice a flawed theory where they think throwing money at the problem solves the problem, and that consumer spending powers the economy, rather than capital investments and manufacturing. So we're going to continue the quantitative easing, further devaluing the dollar and pushing precious metals up. At least the Great Depression was a deflationary depression.. Everything was cheap as balls. We're going to get an inflationary/hyperinflationary collapse.

It is not just about telling. Say for example there are two guys in the military. They both live off base and go home at the end of every day. Guy#1 is straight. One evening he and his girlfriend decide to go to the movies. While they are standing in line they are holding hands. A senior officer sees them. He would think nothing of it. He might even praise the guy that he has girl. If Guy#2 is gay and he does the exact same thing with his boyfriend and he too gets seen, he could be tossed out of the military for being gay.

So it has little to do with telling anyone anything. Supposedly they can't ask you if you are gay, but if they find out you are, then you are done.

In fact it has been challenged multiple times coming at it from a different angle each time and has yet to be shot down. IIf I am not mistaken...most recently some lower court judge ruled against DADT from the angle of attack that was presented...so it will probably go back to the Supreme Court and who knows what the Supreme Court will say. I suspect that at some point in time a challenge will present the correct wording and it will be shot down.

I'm not disagreeing with you all, actually I agree with a lot of what you are saying. Most of the manufacturing jobs that we are losing are being replaced with lower paying service and retail level jobs or higher paying tech jobs which will require the workers to go back to school.

That said, what do you think we need to do in order to right the ship? We can't simply start manufacturing stuff without some kind of protective tariffs because we simply can't compete with third world countries when it comes to labor force wages. So if you were in charge and whatever you said would go, what would you do?
