With all of the EPASS, and Paypal dramas, let's cut to the chase. Who are the solid recommendations for those looking for merchant accounts? Whether you are looking for adult (high risk) or mainstream. I know I could use one for mainstream.

Those doing merchant processing, fire away with the minimum requirements people need to know, as I am sure there are plenty of programs among others interested at this point. Minimum transactions, application fees, etc.. Whatever you think would be useful for those who should be considering this option.

Had an account with http://www.moneris.ca/ in the past, and can highly recommend them. Excellent company. Then again, it's owned by the two largest bank in Canada, so go figure.

Easy application process, about $700 to get setup with both VISA & MC, excellent customer service, funds are within your bank account usually 48 hours after a card is charged, etc. They're great!

Not for adult though, but for mainstream.

i use best payment solutions for both my adult and mainstream operations, i've used them for 8 years now for adult. netbilling hooked me up with them back then, i believe it was $100 and checking my credit, some paperwork, which was no big deal. business checking account required. all subsequent merchant accounts i've gotten through them have not cost anything, not as much paperwork and the approval was based on my outstanding transacting record i've had with them.

i will also add that i originally tried to get subsequent merch accounts via netbilling and they dropped the ball each and every time. don't get me wrong though, netbilling has always been there as my gateway, but their sales crew not so much.

Another quick 2c: http://www.authorize.net/ and their world-wide sister-company http://www.planetpayment.com/ are horrible. Actually, they're decent, but I'd never use them, mainly because of the payout schedule. Can take up to 6 weeks to receive funds, plus they keep a 10% chargeback reserve (or at least they did when I used them), which they release every 6 months.

Ends up being a pain in the ass if your business is expanding very quickly, but various things get stalled due to the fact you can't invest your own money for up to 6 weeks.

While this is not universal, nor encompasses everyone (country, your credit, etc.) this appears to be some decent base line information for your pleasure.

Needed:
1. Good Credit.
2. Utility Bill.
3. Up to 6 Months of Transaction History.
4. Business Bank Account to Dump Funds Weekly.
5. Business Set up (comes before #4, but you get the idea).
6. Tax Return(s)
7. Passport if You Have One

If you have bad credit or other complications then you may be asked for a deposit, pay set up fees, higher rolling reserve amount either in percentage or dollar amount, deposit time may be longer than a week, or more financial information required.

2.4% + per transaction fee of ~.20c + monthly fee. they will also try and hit you for non-compliance fees, etc. just pay attention to everything they send in the mail.

Nice thread.

L3 Payments specializes in both direct merchant accounts for credit cards and ACH. We work with several banks world wide in the US, EU, and LAC regions.

Requirments vary from bank to bank and region to region. In a nutshell, our banks in the US and LAC like to see at least 3mo. processing history. In the EU our bank likes to see 6mo. If this is a totally new venture with no processing history, then a business plan is a prerequisite.

We also do not get involved with your monthly settlements.

Where we place you depends on what your business model looks like and what region(s) make the most sense.

I am more than happy to take a look at anyone's current deal and go over that with you, to make sure you are getting a fair shake.

In closing, we have banks for both mainstream (don't take adult) and high risk.

Here are some answers to your questions

Question: Who are the solid recommendations for those looking for merchant accounts? Whether you are looking for adult (high risk) or mainstream. I know I could use one for mainstream.

Adult Banks: Merrick is always solid; if you already have urls registered with CCbill you can not recycle those url's and apply with Merrick. With that said, you still have Bank Of Delaware, Humboldt and Harris Bank. Offshore is a different Beast and another conversation... But I have banks for offshore too : )

Mainstream- you have more choices- NPC, Merrick, Moneris, Applied, Bank Of Delware, Harris, Capital Bank Card, Wells Fargo, Chase and Merchant E-Solution

Question:Minimum requirements people need to know, as I am sure there are plenty of programs among others interested at this point. Minimum transactions, application fees, etc.. Whatever you think would be useful for those who should be considering this option.

Most of my mainstream banks do not have a minimum requirement for transactions or volume. They are more concerned about CB's then they are about volume.

For adult Merrick, Delaware and Harris like accounts to be over $30,000 to $50,000 with 3 to 6 months of history.

To apply for any merchant account you need a Tax ID and Corp papers, business bank account with voided check or bank letter, ID or Passport, 3 to 6 months processing statements and or business plan (if new business) and proof of address.

Once the account goes into underwriting they generally will ask for 3 to 6 months of business bank statements. 1 to 2 years of P & L or tax returns. They will also pull your credit. (yeah it's like buying a home...)

Bank Fees

Application fee are never more then $25.00 and you never get charged unless you are approved

You may see a Visa High Risk Fee for Adult, this fee is around $1500 and ONLY a one time fee.

Next step is picking your gateway. I suggest shopping around and finding a gateway with low transaction fees and around the clock service. Don't worry about the monthly fee as much, As you run more transactions and that's what adds up. I prefer DHD as a Gateway. They are integrated into most of my banks and I have heard nothing but great things about them.

When having a merchant account you are charge interchange, + a rate (%) and a transaction fee. You will also be charged per chargeback and refund. These fees are always listed on your application.

You are still generally paying lower then an IPSP at the end of the day... The real benefit to a merchant account is you are now storing you own credit card data. you are able to move rebills and now hosting your own join page. You will also see a increase in your conversions with your own merchant account. Your know have control of your billing.
