All I did at the AVN Show was...

..meet up with current and potential clients. Wow, that's just plain crazy.

Oh yeah, and what else really sucked was meeting a ton of new people and companies I've never talked to, and can/will do business with...

Really really horrible.

Just out of curiosity...without giving away any business secrets behind selling text and banner spots, what new companies to you did you meet? If attendance was sparse...was there really NEW companies that somehow none of us know about? Especially in a climate where a lot of really well established companies are closing down?

Or was the "new companies" part a tiny bit of embellishment?

Just a bunch of companies who have been around and I never got a chance to talk with until then. Also, a lot of new startup companies, etc.

Got ya! "New" as in you had never had a chance to meet up with them before, but this show gave you that opportunity. Exactly what a show should do.

Not sure how many deals will get closed. But definitely a better chance than 0 if I hadn't met any of them.

Yeah not just ones that have been around. Additionally, a few companies who had admittedly just stepped into the market.

Would you mind saying who those companies are and what they do? Or were they more novelty/toy oriented?

Not trying to steal any business...just looking for some positive real news from the show that isn't the usual "business got done and I closed 50 deals" stuff that we all say. lol

Who are the new companies, and on a side note...are they INSANE for starting new in this business at this time???

I mean, are they in the paysite end, free site end (which both would interest you I'd say), or are they toy companies? VOD? Come on man! Name names and turn this into a real business thread. We need one!

PinkTV.com (not really that new, but they are rejuvenating themselves), PinpointsX, to name a few.

And no I don't think anyone is insane, I think now is the perfect time to start for any innovative company with fresh ideas. It's times like these when the innovation is sparked.

I'm always interested in those kinds of comments. "Innovation" in our business means something different than it does in a lot of other lines of business.

They are gonna have to come up with something better than 3d, content delivery, and the other things I've read people saying to beat the "Free" when their entire members area is stolen and posted up on rapidshare.

The only things I see anybody being able to do is member interaction (can't be stolen). And that's not innovative at all. Matter of fact, "innovative" isn't really that big of an equation at this point is it?

In the big picture, porn is porn. If you have a hot girl with a big fan base, a big personality, and the smarts to market her and deliver the goods...then you have the winning formula.

I'll be real interested to see if anybody comes up with any innovations that can make a guy cum better when he watches porn.

But it's always kinda cool to see if somebody can really come up with something new that is still going to do the real function that porn does.

I'd still wonder why anybody would want to step into a biz that is so hurt by piracy though. Unless it's webcams or toys or some other non-steal-able product. They might just innovate themselves right back out the door unless they are real good.

Especially when competing with experienced guys who already know how to do this.

Takes some big balls I suppose.

What were the attitudes of the new companies owners when they saw the show? Were they a little disappointed by there not being a lot of "sizzle" with the steak? I know back when I went to my first show in the 90's I was dazzled by it all. Couldn't believe what I was seeing and how much money was involved in the show floor at the Sands Expo

It inspired me to get up on that level.

These new guys are basically taking a leap of faith here without much proof that it's worth it. Pretty ballsy move!

Robbie, I agree with a lot of your points, and totally understand

I don't think 3D (or things of that nature) is the future at all. And free is hard to beat. But it's not impossible.

I disagree with genuine "member interaction" as being non-innovative. There is always room for improvement in any case. Great foresight is a hard thing to produce, hindsight is a breeze.

I am involved with another adult startup company (launching within the next 30 days, you will see), and what we are developing is definitely expanding the boundaries of "the box" (thinking outside of the box is impossible, it's a vacuum). But being on the edge and expanding possibilities is doable.

Is it going to be something with an affiliate program? And do you mind me asking you if it's gonna be porn or just adult related (toys, etc.)?

The problem is there are plenty of thieves, but there is lack of true innovation.
Bands tour and make boatloads of money. Porn websites cant tour. One thing you can give music credit for is you dont see music ads on p2p sites. Also this talk of innovation, its porn really simple. All the free shit out has made the value drop and how does the industry answer this by giving more of it away. I worked in adult during the recession in the 80's. I was in the car business and lost my job. At one point a dealership was closing a week. So my part time adult gig became my fulltime gig. Adult was rocking because it had value. Now the answer is give more away to hopefully get a sale. Well your just lowering the value of the product and teaching future generations buying porn is a stupid thing to do when you can get it for free. No long term thinkers in adult, that's the industries biggest problem make a quick buck and hope tomorrow is good.

Well, at least you won't have to worry about that in the future when the tales are told of the shows now.

You meet with clients. That's not crazy. That sounds like good business.

Boom! For once fatfoo made a post that actually makes sense.

And hopefully the shows will become fewer and more productive for us all with more attendees and sponsors because they won't have to stretch out their limited resources trying to do a show every month.

I saw DJ from two feet away... and stayed away, didn't want him to hook me up in some deal... I would have to back out when I got back to my office...

I met http://justfuckitcash.com/ who in my opinion are crazy, as they are spending a fortune on shooting new content here in Miami and in Europe to launch a series of websites.

I asked them if they are scared of Tubes and all that content going up on Torrents, and Luca didn't seam to be.

I don't know if more new companies were at the show, but I can tell you for sure that one new company did go.

It is porn, and will have an affiliate program in addition.

Cool! I'm guessing you'll announce it on GFY when you are ready to roll it out. Looking forward to seeing it and promoting it.

Face to face meeting doesnt make good business. It's the ability to close a real deal with money actually exchanging hands. If you have clients you should be taking care of their needs without meeting no one.
I went to a show the ceo of the old ibill shook my hand looked me square in the eye and said son your with a winner. Then fucked me out of 13 grand, yep the power of face to face. lol

No one is saying that meeting face-to-face is a guaranteed closed business deal, or a great business deal. That's silly.

And I'm pretty sure clients spending any sum of money large or small, have no problem meeting the person they are giving money to face-to-face. It only helps and is comforting.

But what's better than IMing, email or phone? Face-to-face meetings.

Who are the new companies, and on a side note...are they INSANE for starting new in this business at this time???

I mean, are they in the paysite end, free site end (which both would interest you I'd say), or are they toy companies? VOD? Come on man! Name names and turn this into a real business thread. We need one!
I've met up up with multiple new to the industry people, or people with less than 6-8 months in the adult market.

It appears these days there's a lot of "hobby" investors about to spend their retirement funds as they are unemployed or have a good idea, as well as a couple of bigger investors working various projects.

I've seen some pretty amazing plans out there the past 6 months

If you are looking for affiliates and such your best bet is probably the shows that's organised by 1-2 people, such as barcelona, qwebec, cybernet etc.
