Virginia looking to expand it's immigration law

The Justice Department's lawsuit against Arizona's controversial immigration law won't stop Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey A. Stewart's campaign to bring a similar law to Virginia.

If anything, said Stewart (R-At Large), he will push harder to get legislation passed at the state level that would enhance police officials' power to capture, detain and deport illegal immigrants and create specific Virginia penalties for illegal immigrants.

"I think the Obama administration has made a strategic blunder," Stewart said. "The Justice Department is going to have egg on its face when its case is dismissed. Arizona is on very firm legal footing, and the administration is just trying to intimidate Arizona."

Last month, Stewart launched the Virginia Rule of Law Campaign to rally support for Virginia immigration legislation. Stewart said Virginia needs to follow in Arizona's footsteps, even if it sends President Obama's administration after the commonwealth.

"I hope the Justice Department sues Virginia, as well," he said. "I hope they have so many targets that they are unable to focus on Arizona. . . . Every state that supports Arizona should implement a similar law to make it impossible for the [federal government] to focus on any one state or jurisdiction."

Prince William has received national attention for its crackdown on illegal immigration. The county's law, enacted in 2007 and modified in 2008, requires that police officers check the immigration status of all people arrested on suspicion of violating a state or local law

If I remember right, little over half of the produce workers in the us are illegal, tell me, do you think we would have a problem getting legal immigrants for those jobs?

so figure half of the 2.5 million produce workers in the US and theres what 30 million illegal aliens, what are the rest doing? About 3% of the illegal aliens are working picking lettuce and what ever, the rest are a drain on the economy

From an article on Politico from July 2009

"Since Obama?s inauguration, prosecutors have pressed on with pending obscenity cases and accepted guilty pleas in one high-profile prosecution brought in Pittsburgh. However, there have been no announcements of new adult obscenity indictments, a trend that Justice Department officials declined to discuss, though they did note that federal prosecutions for child pornography have continued apace. "

This entire article talks about how Obama and his administration are not really making obscenity prosecutions a priority.

Here is another recent article from a conservative group who is pissed because it appears that Obama has gone soft on porn.

Another article here from a few months ago about Congress grilling Holder for his lack of obscenity prosecutions.

As with any subject, you're going to get conflicting stories, most of the info you got is a year old and yes mine is based on an article on XBiz. What was said on XBiz made sense , but as anything in politics happens, you'll might never get a straight answer. And any graphs will be grouped together with underage convictions. It never made sense to me that Obama would go after porn, I mean it's not in his agenda and he has little time for thing not in his agenda, you know like generating jobs.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA (KOLD) - For the last three years, a county in Virginia has remained under the radar in the immigration debate even though it has a law almost identical to Arizona's immigration law.

The ordinance in Prince William County was passed in 2007. It initially required police to check the status of detainees they suspected of being undocumented immigrants but one year later it was revised.

Officers now question all criminal suspects about their immigration status once an arrest is made.

In 2008, the University of Virginia conducted a survey to see what effects, if any, the Prince William County law had. It concluded initial fears about racial profiling did not happen.

It also show that schools saw a drop in English as a second language enrollment. There was also a drop in uninsured mothers giving birth and individuals turned over to immigration and customs enforcement

California tried it with Prop 187 , but it was shot down by one judge.
If this gets past the law suit Holder and Obamanation has against Arizona,I hope they finally read the law, then maybe California will follow suit and adopt similar laws and stop the political correctness that's helping to bankrupt the state

Like you said they often lump convictions with CP in the same category and those may be up, but as I said, I spent about 30 minutes searching and came up with zero information to show that Obama was increasing porn prosecutions, just the opposite was actually the case.
