Yes. Anyone with half a brain can see that a panel of industry lawyers are going to spread fear. I would take their prediction of obscenity prosecution doom and gloom with a grain of salt.

If there is nothing to fear, they would be out of business.

Let me preface this remark by noting that I wrote an article in 2008 that strongly questioned whether it would really turn out to be a good thing for the industry that Obama had just been elected.

That said.... this argument is a total red herring.

At any point in the last 20 years, there have been very few federal obscenity prosecutions taking place at any given time, so when one ends or starts, it always represents a fairly big increase or decrease, in terms of percentage, of the active obscenity cases taking place at that moment.

To my knowledge, there has been a grand total of ONE "new" federal obscenity case involving adult pornography filed since Obama took office; the Goldman case, which AVN has reported on extensively. That case actually started life as a Florida case, in 2008, while Bush was still in office, so I'm not sure you can count it as an Obama DOJ case, even though the current indictment in New Jersey did get filed post-election.

I think the fair and accurate position to take is that the Obama Admin picked up where the Bush Admin left off (quite literally) with respect to obscenity prosecution.

What do you use the other half of your brain for?

Good article, I agree with the idea that not all the left will leave this industry alone or that being a conservative means you're anti-porn
Too bad about the hopes for improved race relations for having the first black president, I think he's a racist after what happened with the Beer Summit and him attacking the Arizona law saying it will lead to racial profiling when in Virginia they've had that law on the books for 3 years and no such profiling has happened.

In 08 when we had the elections, I voted for McCain, I didn't like the choices I had, Obama to me looked like a polished lawyer politician from Chicago, and there's 3 or 4 things right there that made me not want to trust him. When he got elected, I thought I would give him a chance, here it is 18 months later and well, we're fucked.

If your car is broke down, do you buy it a new hood ornament, or spend your money getting it running again? Instead of focusing on fixing the economy, we got more entitlements, instead of jobs, we got bank reform, instead of getting peace, we got more troops sent to harms way for a war that can never be won. Instead of security at our own border, we got political posturing.

He has kept very few of his promises, he's even going to open up killing whales, I for one love whales, I was a sonar tech on a submarine and when you can listen to their song in person, it's an experience like no other.
And when you can't kept your promises, you can't be trusted with anything.

What presidents did in the past doesn't matter, we voted for change, we didn't get it

I don't hate, just don't come at me with a 8th grade mentality with nothing in your head but insults and expect for me to play nice.

The Justice Department's lawsuit against Arizona's controversial immigration law won't stop Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey A. Stewart's campaign to bring a similar law to Virginia.

If anything, said Stewart (R-At Large), he will push harder to get legislation passed at the state level that would enhance police officials' power to capture, detain and deport illegal immigrants and create specific Virginia penalties for illegal immigrants.

"I think the Obama administration has made a strategic blunder," Stewart said. "The Justice Department is going to have egg on its face when its case is dismissed. Arizona is on very firm legal footing, and the administration is just trying to intimidate Arizona."

Last month, Stewart launched the Virginia Rule of Law Campaign to rally support for Virginia immigration legislation. Stewart said Virginia needs to follow in Arizona's footsteps, even if it sends President Obama's administration after the commonwealth.

"I hope the Justice Department sues Virginia, as well," he said. "I hope they have so many targets that they are unable to focus on Arizona. . . . Every state that supports Arizona should implement a similar law to make it impossible for the [federal government] to focus on any one state or jurisdiction."

Prince William has received national attention for its crackdown on illegal immigration. The county's law, enacted in 2007 and modified in 2008, requires that police officers check the immigration status of all people arrested on suspicion of violating a state or local law

OK< they've been doing this for 3 years now, has anyone heard of any racial profiling?
Are you aware that the Attorney General's law suite against Arizona is not based upon racial profiling and does not even mention racial profiling?

Unless I am mistaken it was not changed...it was never based upon racial profiling...but it has been reported that if he loses in court...he may refile and something about racial profiling may be introduced next time. I have not personally seen the words come from his mouth...thus I do not know if media reports are true or not.

When they first started talking about the law suit, they mentioned it alot as a reason, I'm sure you heard it. They must have came to the conclusion that they couldn't argue that because it hasn't yet.

Here's a video I found, hard hitting comercial, I don't think I've ever seen a governor go after a president before like this

It's pretty transparent when a bunch of adult entertainment lawyers are saying we're heading for a lot of obscenity prosecutions...if you cant see that, well, you're clearly lacking in common sense.

Also the federal prosecuters dropping the heavily evidenced, easily proven case against the New Black Panther Party for voter intimidation all of the sudden.... :-(

Also interesting is the fact that a locally enforced illegal alien law has been on the books in Maryland for years, with no problems from the feds.

Hey shit for brains, in the article, it was said that there ARE more than 4 years ago, not heading for, hope you can grasp that

As for the Obama administration?s stance on obscenity prosecutions, Obenberger was frank.

?We?ve got more to worry about,? Obenberger said. ?Obama is not getting rid of the [obscenity] task force. The three members of the task force are emboldened because they know he?s afraid of getting rid of them. He thinks that the Bible thumpers who value the task force will vote for him another term.?

?There?s more obscenity prosecutions than there were four years ago,? he said.
