Seeing as they were in school uniform i'll comment on schools.
School discipline has gone to shit and I don't think it's going to recover as there are now children at school who's parents were at school since corporal punishment was abolished and don't know how to behave either.

I was at school at the point it was abolished.

Suddenly it went from if you behave badly expect to be caned to do what the fuck you like and they can't even grab hold of you as you are running down the corridor.

Corporal punishment NEVER worked.

a) it was the SAME NAMES in the punishment book all the time. It was no deterrent, the same kids still fucked about time and time again. This proving its total inefficacy.

b) it taught people that violence was a good way to deal with problems. So the kids that got the cane went on to hit people as adults.

c) if you think a 40 year old man hotting an 11 year old boy with a cane on his bare bottom is a good thing, well, that scares me!

Male children need to be afraid of something or else they get out of control. That is why a stern father figure is necessary to keep teenage boys in line. In this day and age kids are so spoiled that they turn into horrible little narcissistic sociopaths. A few good beatings would have solved these kids problems........ but now it is too late and they are headed towards incarceration.

As to the whiney "progressive" old women who think it is some major tragedy to discipline a child...... you are the ones who have created this disaster (many thanks to the Labour biddies for destroying the UK school system) so you really should STFU.

A lot of that is How to Discipline your own child.

Which comes back round to parents now having been through school without having to behave bringing up little shits that aren't even sent to school with any inbuilt respect for other people.

The cane was there as a threat not as a whack everybody that does something tiny wrong. Yes I didn't exactly go to a brilliant school but a little bit of if i'm a cunt something bad might happen to me would have prevented something like this.

Everything now seems to be far to focussed on everything being someone else's fault. Poor quality teachers that really fit the can't do : teach stereotype just fall back on blaming the parents. Decent teachers that have been doing the job forever up against parents that shouldn't have been allowed to breed blaming everything on the teachers and don't give them any backing even when their darling child has obviously been in the wrong.

The whole 'punishment should be all about teaching people how to act'-mentality is part of the problem.

Punishment should be about 2 things:
1. paying for the damages caused.
2. punishment should serve as a warning.

Parents who discipline their kids rather than looking to the schools to be the only one that tries to lay down the law. Kids that aren't used to seeing adults as the authority in their own home aren't going to give any other adults the respect they don't give their parents.

In my school in the States at the start of each year we had to take a paper home and get it signed to say whether or not the school was allowed to use physical discipline (there was a huge wooden paddle in the principals office but I don't know of anybody that ever got it). Every year my mother would say no on the form and then write in her own comment that if I ever did anything at school that was so bad it deserved a spanking she would come down and do it herself.
