Will, for someone with a brain, you sure seem clueless about social shit. Do you get out much?

If I go, in person, to do business, and the other person dresses like they don't give a shit, why would *I* give a shit?

Face it, your clothing and looks are important metrics on which to judge someone with, and it has been this way for thousands of years.

I think people can read your comments and mine and make conclusions for themselves.

What the president wears on tv really doesn't matter to me. Who I do business with I could give a shit what they are wearing. If what they have to offer is something I can make money from and we can do good business together then it could be a 300 pound man in a thong, I am not looking at him, I am listening to what he has to offer.

I don't judge people on how they look muchless what they wear. I'm not going to go up to a homeless person the street and ask him if he wants to do business. But if I am at a convention, conference or something to give me the impression that it is a business related atmosphere, I will not discriminate against anyone. I will listen to what they have to offer. I will judge them on their knowledge and what they have to offer.

I would give a shit, because I want to make money and *gasp* will do business with someone even if they have bad fashion or lack of. "social shit" has nothing to do with making money.

You seem brainwashed from high school shit and hung up on appearances, that is going to big time inhibit your ability to make money if you only willing to do business with people who are dressed nice. How old are you again?

No you dont. Salespeople "dont come running"...You wouldnt know where a fully loaded car would be on the lot. You have eagle vision to read the window stickers from your IMPRESSIVE 38k hick truck? No, its not. Unless your buying a cheap car that is. If thats the case, not worth the salespersons time. Any car of value is pretty hot right now, as the factories arent really building alot. Supply and Demand my friend. This is based on knowledge of the NY area. Perhaps diff in other areas, I dont know.

i'm going to buy something new in the month, for sure. you can literally check out every dealership now online, and drive the price down. i did just that for my new subaru, and i did it for my 911.

About 6 months ago I wanted a new Truck, I've had my eyes on the new Hemi Dodge's since I pull a lot of stuff, trailers, boats, etc.

So I walked in and the price was high, not really but I told them it was. I had done my research online, I told them Toyota is offering a great deal but as an American, I wanted to buy an American Truck. (Even though all my other cars aren't. lol) So I told him I was just looking and the price was too high, he brought his manager over and said we want to make sure you drive this truck out today. I was dressed like I always dress...Huggles,

I offered them $8K lower than the asking price and they said no way and that I was crazy, I gave them my number and said if you change your mind or if the truck doesn't sell in a month or so to call me back.

I started walking back to my car (which they didn't see what I was driving, huggles..) and still kissed my ass and had to team work for me to bite.

They took off 4K at first, then 5K then 6K then finally 7K and I bought it.

They didn't judge me on how I was dressed, everyone should be like that. They made money and I got what I wanted. One big happy family.

Not the exact truck, Mine is silver.

A friend of mine named Rob and I were out cruising. I had taken the day off b/c I accrued too much OT and opted for a couple lieu days. We went to the the Audi dealership to drop off his TT for yet another recall and we walked over to the BMW dealership to look at some special M5 he heard they had. I was wearing just some ratty jeans and a regular short sleeve shirt. My friend Rob was dressed in his usual summer attire, a wife beater, cargo shorts and flipflops.

We walk in and head over to the where the M5 is in the show room. The doors are locked and nobody is coming up or giving us the time of day for 10 minutes. He looks over at the only sales guy not busy that's just standing with a coffee cup in his hand looking at us and and pretty much shouts "A little help here would be nice!".
Everyone in the dealership just quiets down and starts staring at us. Rob then say "Oh right my bad", reaches in his pocket, takes out a tie and puts it around his neck and say "How about now?" The sales guy just turns around and sits at his desk.

I just died laughing at this point. I was certain the cops were going to show up any minute. My buddy was mad at this point.

Now when I tell you Rob is a smooth talker, he's a fucking smooth talker! He could go to Bestbuy and order a $200 13" tv and have them deliver it and set it up for free, that's how good he was. He already knew there was a good chance he wouldn't be taken seriously upon walking into BMW, so he purposely put a tie in his pocket just to say and do this. It didn't go quite as planned however, as he expected the sales guy to come over and at least say something.

The receptionist looked like she was laughing at the scenario so we head over to her and my buddy asks if there's anyone that can help him outside of the "coffee cup douche over there". She said the other two sales people were currently occupied and before she could finish, he reaches down and grab out the wad of cash he had on him which was $20k.

He plops $300 down and asks her to please have the owner come down here and its yours. She called the owner but insisted not taking the $300. At this point "coffee cup douche" comes over after seeing Rob put the money back in his pocket and asks if he needs some assistance with the M5.

Rob looks at him and tells him "You're kidding me right? You had your chance and blew it. Here (he takes off the tie and gives it to him) you can have this and wear it when you explain to your wife why you're bringing home spam for dinner tonight"
About half-way through him telling "coffee cup douche" this, the owner of the dealership came around the corner and saw him handing the tie over.

My buddy then looks at the owner, shakes his hand while introducing himself politely and says "I have three requests: 1) I would like the keys for the M5 to look inside and take it for a quick test drive. 2) If I like it then I will put $20k cash down right now and bring the rest of the cash price we have negotiated on within an hour and 3) All the commisision goes to the receptionist."

The owner chucked and said "With pleasure, let me grab the keys, a dealer plate and get the show door open and let's go for a ride."

The owner personally drove us to get a certified check for the remainder of the purchase price Rob negotiated down, took us for lunch, threw in a ton of extra's for cleaning, scotchguarding, extended maintenance warrenty etc, and threw in a bunch of free swag from the parts store.

The receptionist got the commission as requested and the owner even brought her in during the whole process to have her "learn the ropes". She ended up getting promoted a few months later and 'coffee cup douche' was let go.

Unfortunately the car met with an unfortunate end a couple years later when an Escalade ran a red and t-boned it on the passenger side.
this story is awesome

I said I wanted to buy a car. He kind of gave me the "what the fuck ever" look and pointed out the window to the $500 or cheaper lot and told me that all they had. and walked away. I was fuming. So I went down half a block to another dealer. (who where actually friendly to me) and did the same thing. The guy was cool, told me all about th car etc and I bought it on the spot and paid for it in full. I then drove it back to the 1st dealer and ask for the manager and told him my story and showed him my purchase contract and told him the reason he lost the sale. They fired the sales man.
That is why I drive a Chrysler now... I wanted a Mustang but I got treated like shit at the Ford Dealership... I did the same exact thing... drove the Sebring down to the Ford Dealership and showed it to the same stupid bitch that ignored me... it was only like 3 hours later.

Ferrari's, Bentley's... Damn, wish I could afford that A year ago I wanted to buy a "new" used car... Dressed in casual sportswear.. Just noticed that the older salesmen ignored me but one young guy came over, gave me the keys to a car and sent me off to test the car. I came back one hour later, paid the $52k they asked for and went home. Guess that story was not so special :D but hey, I don't buy cars that often

Anyone notice that the lack of fashion sense has cost most of the people in this thread money. Maybe dress up just a little bit and you don't have to carry suitcases full of cash or pay full price to buy it.

True, doesn't take much to be a salesman. You just need patience, You could do good at it if you know the game. I know the guy at the Audi dealer, he has been there for years and treats everyone great. I've bought two cars from him and refer him to everyone that I can.

Years ago when I bought my benz, I went to the local dealer and knew the top earner. When I was speaking to him, he was telling me a story about a customer that wanted his new benz dropped off at his house which was up the street and he said, What the fuck am I, a personal secretary. I told him that he should it was just good customer service, but according to how many cars he sells, he had a pretty big ego. I never bought from him.

So I called around for the same car, and I bought it from a place 80 miles away and the salesman drove it down personally. I had referred him to others and that same guy sold about 4 more cars to people I know.

Whatever business you are in, if you give it your 110% and treat everyone the way you would want to get treated. You will succeed.

That is why for over 12 years. We do all of our processing in-house as well as customer service. Can't take the chance of someone else doing that for us because nobody knows our business like we do.

Funny, I had to search for the video. But that's me and my car I bought.
I have no idea who's youtube page this is.

I think how people dress is important...but then again, I live in Europe, where people know how to dress and prefer to look good. And not like clowns with all kind of clothes mixed up.

That's not bad at all. What is the average commission per car? Just curious. That's a lot of cars. I don't know anyone that sells that many. I don't think most dealerships sell that many.

What kind of cars were you selling?

I was 23 17 years ago and self employed so I was doing decent. But I doubt as good as you.

I was self employed. Set up an Internet sales dept, 2 asst's 3 drivers on a 50/50 split with the dealership. I did well. That was the height and birth of Internet sales. Was easy as hell too. People thought they were techies if they bought a car over the net. I was in a dodge/jeep/chrysler/ford store.

On new cars I'd say avg commision is between 150-500 and used is 300-900/unit. Most stores in the NY area are doing well. I know ones that are doing only 60/month and I know 2 that are pushing 350 and 600 on avg. Those are pretty nice stores.

Low end sales guys make 50-60k while the ones with talent and a following will easily earn 150k+++ One of my close friends has made 250k+ for the last 10 years. Crazy..

17 years ago i was selling high end clothing catering to very upscale clientele, and was doing very well, thank you for asking.

i don't feel the need to play e-penis, else i would post my salaries made, resume, education and list of toys in my sig.

as i mentioned *MOST* car salesmen are deadbeats hired off the street with no sales credentials, minimum education and very little training prior to being released on the showroom, you should know that with all your education and car sales experience.

Crazy..
automobile sales via the internet has nothing to do with showroom floor sales. period.

as you say yourself, easy as hell. fuck, i just sold a car on the internet a few days ago. 20 pictures, 2 videos and some clever text and had a bidding war.

easy as pie.

Im not playing e-penis. Just pointing out wrong facts. I dont know a single dead beat salesperson. I have ran into a few, but for the most part they take their business serious as they should. New hire salespeople wont have sales experience, just strong customer service skills. I really dont need an education to know your post is 100% incorrect and retarded. Ill assume you have self esteem issues and need to rip on car salespeople to feel important on a board called Go Fuck Yourself. Congrats, hope you sleep well with your education, toys and anything else you were fucking babbling about. Douchebag

I assume you are a webmaster. Too reach outside the box back then and set up websales was unheard of. Lets say im in the car biz a little bit now. Showroom sales? yeah been there done that, 20 years ago. Congrats on your sale over the Internet. I see you are way too simple to understand a business model such as the one I set up. Hope you got top dollar for your 95 Dodge Neon. Fucking retard.

lolz, please. i hired a sales guy who did the exact same thing for a large muti-brand auto sales chain- take their cars and put them on the internet, back in the early 2000s.

a bunch of pics, a nice text descriptor, shipping costs, and a phone #- what a GENIUS!

i had to teach him everything re: how to sell.

In early 2000's the Internet sales market was dead. Congrats playa. Yet *MOST* car salesmen are low lifes...

Ill come back in 2020 and say I found a way tubes make money. You had a great idea, 10 years too late. Move on, like I said, you are too simple and apparently a liar as well.

Ooh Ive never shipped a car in my life. You missed the whole point of Internet sales in the early 90's...I suppose you were too busy fitting your high end clothing clients to understand it.

lol...you have no idea. I have a few emails since this post started saying just tell em who you are and open hand them, but I much rather do this. Its amusing me. Ooh and im drunk too. Im calling you names for the mere factor that you really dont have a clue what you are talking about and ripping on car salesmen, yet you set up a HUGE innternet dept about 3 years after the car biz gave up on net sales. lol....wanna buy my CJ site?

just a quick google-

Sales of new cars over the Internet, though stalled at $2.1 billion in 1999, accelerated to $27.3 billion by 2004.

i'll stand-by for you to call me a name or 2 for this post.

AGAIN, for the last time, Im talking about new car sales from a dealership. NOT the ebay, autotrader etc etc of housewives selling thier personal cars. Seriously dude, you really dont have a fucking clue. Your looking stupid at this point.

Now go sell a harddrive on eBay or something so you can say you have a clue about internet sales...

Lets agree to disagree. If someone was treated bad by a salesperson, they deserved it. Thats my stand on it. If someone comes in to a dealership with an attitude that salespeople are lowlifes chances are pretty good that they are going to get abused. Thats all I meant with my defending posts. They are people too.

I only picked you out because of your post that stated "lets not forget most salesmen are lowlifes" or whatever it said. im not really one to attack anyone, especially not on an Internet board. We had fun tho i suppose...Nice to meet you by the way.

Don't know about you, but I sold cars for 3 months back in college and I have to say I worked with a bunch of sleazy, low life people.

I've seen them flat out lie to people, tell them anything they want to hear to make a sale. The dealership I was at would add an addendum to the MSRP that was around $1500 - $2500 more than sticker price. for what, pin stripes, vin etching into the windows, to wash it after you buy it, some clear coat protectant. Lots of bull shit. They told me all that crap cost them like $80.

And the negotiating was so lame... this is the best I can do, wow you getting such a great deal (being charged $2,000 over MSRP)... let me go see what I can do, maybe I can get $200 more off or some free floor mats...

Wasn't my style. I purposely caved with people and most of my sales were only 3-5% over invoice. I couldn't take the sales meetings that were basically, how can we screw people today sessions. Ok we have an ad in the paper for this car, we only have one. When they come in it will be sold, this is the one I want you to pitch them on, etc etc....

Hey Will...Sounds like you were in a pretty sleezy store. I cant recall where you live but generally 2 types of stores will do that. 1) mom and pop stores to make you appear like you got a great deal 2) highway stores that just wanna rip peoples face off. Its not normal to do that these days, but people need to make money. From your story it sounds like you sold cars a while ago..Same practices these days just on a lesser note.

Ad cars will always be around. Its the cheapest way to get people thro the door and people arent stupid. They know its 1 car on the lot and feel they can get a sick deal walkin in the door with the ad, feeling they will buy the better model for a steal because of the ad. Its usually win win in that situation, so dealers continue with it. No real harm.

Actually it was one of the bigger car dealers right outside of New Orleans. The owner owned about 5-6 different dealerships in the area. This was 97/98 i believe. The "one" car add was bullshit imo. Can't tell you how many people came in and was pissed to find out it was one car and they couldn't buy for the advertised price and they stormed out. Maybe the public is wiser to it now.

I stayed just long enough to learn the ins and outs, how to buy a car for myself without getting hosed.
