When I used to sell electronics back in the early 90's I'd make a point to approach the people who looked more shaggy, the old guys who I worked with didn't like to and didn't mind that I did. They often turned out to be big spenders.

A few years back I wanted a Navigator and went to the Lincoln dealer and got pretty much the same treatment as Dave, the one salesman who would talk to me kept steering me towards the used cars. He did, however, have me fill out a questionnaire for a free prize and then left me standing alone.

I left and bought one at another dealer the same day, brand new.

A week later, the original salesman douche calls me up, I guess they were ringing people they had fill out the forms, he starts asking me how I'm doing and about whatever fucking promotion they had going and I just told him he could fuck himself for not selling me what I wanted that day.

Also I am a snazzy dresser

lets face it whatever you wear is an expression of how you perceive yourself.
people looking at you will not see what you think you look like but rather what you look like.

the results as proven by Huggles are not astounding.
basically if you dress to impress you get better service, better food, better cars etc.
(lets face it, a stranger doesnt know you are super rich by smell or otherwise so usually the clothing and the jewelry and the automobile you arrive in makes the impression..perhaps even the bitch on your arm)

My opinion is that if a sales person will treat a customer with considerably less respect based on how they look, they don't give a shit about ANY of their customers, ONLY about their commission. Sales people that will see someone who doesn't look rich or anything and helps them get what they want just as if they were a potentially huge customer care about ALL their customers. And hell, if you had the job, why the fuck not?

I've had similar kinds of things happen before because of dressing casual. I don't care - fuck 'em but I don't need to rub their nose in it - they'd get a rude awakening and learn sooner or later, in probably a much harder "life lesson" kind of way which would probably help them in the long run more anyways.

That's basically what women do.

They don't dress up and put makeup on because they like it. They do it to sell themselves. No matter what the bum-dressing douchebags say, beautiful people command attention.

That Cyber-Dave douche can say that he doesn't care that he gets snubbed, but in reality he cares a big deal. Making a thread about the issue on an internet board and being butthurt whole day over it =

The funny thing about this thread is that there aren't as many stories opposite of what the OP related, which is surprising. My story ain't no Ferrari story, but it made me almost as happy:

A few years ago when the Honda CBR600RR came out, I was instantly smitten and had to have one. Seriously deep smit. I fucking downloaded the wallpaper and stared at that shit all day long.

Finally I decided to pull the trigger and went to the local dealership. I roll up on a hot Arizona day dressed in summertime webmaster gear and walk in to the dealership and see a brand spankin' new 600RR in the center of the showroom.

I walk right up to it and sit on it. I may have actually been making motor revving sounds with my mouth. Instant lust, it fits like a glove. Like an old lover's embrace.

A sales guy comes up to me and asks me to get off.

I tell him there's no goddamn way I'm getting off my own motorcycle and pull my debit card out of my pocket. He says, "Sir, my apology! Can I get you a cold soda while I handle the paperwork?"

I used to hate that too, big time. But I just had twins so I may change the way I feel about this now.

Good thing is, they don't cry much but I'm sure there first time on a plane is going to be a loud one. I better buy all the seats or hopefully in this economy they will be empty.

Huggles needs to Cuddles or something. Or a Hug.

Bottom line is, if we are going to an Oscar party or to the Grammys, yes, we shouldn't wear shorts.

But if we are planning on moving money which this economy needs so badly, wearing shorts to buy a fricken car should not be that difficult.

Now put on your Ed Hardy shirt and your checkered Vans on with your classy Miami Vise Blazer and go find someone to Hug. It will make you feel much better and less defensive.

That's fucked up and true but I agree here, you have a great attitude about it.
Where I was born and raised, everyone was doing something shady to make money. It's funny because I bought my first exotic car when I was around 30, cops looked at me like I was doing some kind of fraud or something. My city knows more about me then I know about me. I'm sure they have done plenty of backgrounds checks on my, But the look on their faces when they see me. As if I'm a crook.

But If I drive down to Beverly Hills or something, nobody gives a shit. But in my little town. They think you can't be successful without being shady.

Its fucked up, but just like you, we learn to deal with it.

Keep up the great attitude man. Major Props for that.

This is true my friend. No matter how much money you have. If you dress like shit and you think a car salesman doesn't take you seriously. What do you think a person of importance is going to think of you. Even less then the car salesman. And if you think in your head that because you dress like shit and some person doesnt take you seriously it is there problem. truth is, fuck a car salesman. One day there might come a time when you are out and about and run into a business person that has the ability to change your life. If you look like shit you will be laughed at.

interesting logic. people should dress nice because one day they might run into a "business person" that has the ability to help them financially. But yet, 90% of the people on here act very unprofessional.

Your personality and attitude on a business related forum < less important than how nice your clothes are, in public, because of potential to meet a business person.

If people act like asses here, where there is the potential to do business with lots of business people, i don't think they are worried about what they are wearing if they ever bump into one on the street.

Yeah I do this all the time.

I havent bought any new clothes for myself in years. Maybe a tshirt here and there.

Alot of times when buying stuff I may even dress down a bit. The people that judge are the ones I want to stay away from anyway.

It is still amusing to me when I go to buy something like 1k through 5k and the salesman is pretty much assuming your going to finance it because you have no money. Then you pay cash.

I had pretty much nothing a couple years ago so its still amusing to me to pay attention to little details like this.

Edit*** But on the flip side when it comes to business I like to dress nice and be professional.

That's really funny, if you have read most of these posts, our lives have already changed.
What you are saying is that everytime we decide to play the lotto, we should be dressed in a business suit. How many times have you bumped into someone that changed your life?

Sorry, I rather be myself and not sit around dressed nice just incase I get my big break.
I'm happy the way i am as most everyone else here sounds to be.

If you've seen a 600RR you know the only way to do it is doggy style.

Totally had to wait until I got home.

Dude, you made your money when 1 gallery listing could make over a g, easy.

I love this quote:

"How many times have you bumped into someone that changed your life?"

Uhh, often.

Also, when the REALLY important people meet you, do you want to make a good impression, or do you want them thinking:

"Holy fuck, he doesn't shave, and dresses like his mom takes him shopping."

We asked the only sales person working that night to open the door and he brushed us off. Said they were closing soon and ignored us. We were dressed in shorts, summer clothes. We bought it from that guy while the other guy was next to us regretting the sale.

This is to that guy,

Any similar stories? Let's hear it.
sounds like that dealership off the 101 near Woodland Hills

I personally think he sounds like a young kid who makes 40k/year and trying VERY hard to impress on a forum. Just go read his past thread about marriage and shit . If you go read his past posts as well, you find A LOT of inconsistencies, I won't waste my time digging them all up and expose them as I could really careless. Oh yeah, and no straight pimp with a easy million a year business with employees is posting on GFY for new business ideas and fucking accounting advice. . How often do you see the owners of Nubiles, FTV, Twistys, etc etc posting in these show off your status threads? None...

Who knows, I could be dead wrong and really the majority of GFY is making 5-10k/daily....

no need to prove anything here amigo.. ive been here yrs.. if you must know, i was always doing OK.. nothing too special, like $100-250k/yr.. Which at 18yrs is an incredible amount of money.. which i subsequently spended like water.. bought a g35 brand new, paid cash, etc.... then i dabbled in mainstream last yr and made millions from promoting products via ppc/mail, and still doing well, just not as well as early last yr since a lot of the offers are gone....

anyway i dont see whats so wrong in asking for ideas here.. i basically outsourced all my shit, and im bored so i need ideas.. you can see i had 4k posts in 8yrs, all of a sudden 1k posts in like 2-3months, i dont have much to do anymore during the day.... only people i have working for me are programmers, etc.. i dont have any partners or biz dev people.. i do run out of ideas and shit to do..

the way i work is if i find something works, i maximize it.. heck i had an adwords spot for acai(when it was popular) with a high QS , and that single listing made over $10k/day, even posted stats here..

As for accounting advice maybe you fail to realize i'm very very young.. just turned 24.. ive always just filed income but i found out last yr i could be losing a lot of money to taxes.. this yr if i dont get a good accountant im getting completely raped by IRS.. especially since i have a NJ LLC, which means i gotta pay NJ state tax, with self employment tax, and the highest tax bracket.. and my writeoffs arent so much at all..

Anyway only reason i made that thread was to get some ideas and i spoke to a bunch of people including will and will be working with him.. so i dont see what the big deal is..

Uhh, often.

Also, when the REALLY important people meet you, do you want to make a good impression, or do you want them thinking:

"Holy fuck, he doesn't shave, and dresses like his mom takes him shopping."

It's pretty easy to say you'll dress how you want to when you've already made your money.
I've dresses this way from the day I was bouncing $20.00 checks till today. Nothing has changed about me except I have financial security. That's it. People don't change the way they dress because they have money.

My mom has commented a few times that she wanted to give me some money to go by jeans without holes in it.

I hate salespeople when they're doing their jobs correctly. I'd much rather approach them when/if I need something.

Salespeople are forced to pretend like its the best day of their life. They have a big ol' grin but may be going through a divorce, dealing with a kid with a heroin addiction and eighteen billion other things.

I'd rather save the theatrics. It's not like I don't know where to find them when I need one.

I think most people forget that a decent percentage of people of means today used to live in extreme poverty. For many it was the motivation to rise up.

i was in high-end men's apparel sales for 10 years and this is simply not true.

i've sold $10,000 suits to many people who have gotten rich that had no idea about clothing and previously dressed like shit.

Let me re-phrase that. Not all people change the way they dress because they have money.

yeah and they are probably broke now. If the first thing you do when you come into money is go waste it on expensive clothes you don't need, expensive cars, you want to fly first class now, drink $100 bottles of wine, etc etc.... people who come into money that turn around and spend it, don't have money for long.

A good example is sports athletes and lottery winners, most of which never had a pot to piss in before, the moment they get a big pile of cash they spend the fuck out of it. They are more worried about everyone knowing they are rich than they are worried about being rich (or staying rich). People like that spend 10K on a suit so they can go tell everyone how much they paid for their suit.

Unless you are mega rich, if you MADE your money from hard work, saving, and investing, you know better and aren't the type to just start all of a sudden bleeding money because you want to live the life of a high roller. Most people who earn it, know they didn't get to the point of wealth from blowing money so they know better.

I think it is safe to assume that you wont do business with someone who isn't dressed nice from all of your posts, since you judge people how they are dressed. While you think the way people dress is a reflection of their class and wealth, if you think salesman should deny people service because they are not properly dressed then I would assume that you would do the same, correct?

I wonder how much business you have passed up and how much it has cost YOU, if you really feel this way.

I don't give a fuck what you wearing, I care about making money. You could be wearing a pink skirt with poker dots, if we can do business together and make some money then i am all for it. How old are you? you sound like you are in your early twenties?

Yeah, I know what everyone means. That's because they're trained to assess you the moment you enter the shop/restaurant, whatever. And that's why I love online business: you can wear a pink laced bathrobe and a blue tutu as far as the web is concerned.

Of the top of my head just a month from now I took my girl to a fancy dinner and the waiter was kissing my ass. The same waiter who served me a day before when I was wearing jeans and addressed me with a very eloquent "we have beer an' shit?"

Sounds like you've made some real serious personal growth.

Basically, you're saying you have very little personality or style. Dry like a math teacher.

I'd rather deal with someone in a suit, then someone who shows up dressed in a hoody and ratty jeans with white runners.

I suppose you'd be fine if Obama showed up on TV in a basketball jersey, shorts, and Air Jordan shoes?

Will, for someone with a brain, you sure seem clueless about social shit. Do you get out much?

If I go, in person, to do business, and the other person dresses like they don't give a shit, why would *I* give a shit?

Face it, your clothing and looks are important metrics on which to judge someone with, and it has been this way for thousands of years.

What's wrong with that? I bet that is probably a lot more fun than wearing jean and a t-shirt, then posting about how butthurt you are that a Ferrari dealer brushed you off when you came into the store at first.

If I ever buy a Ferrari, I'm going in there with a briefcase of cash, a big smile on my face, ready to do business.

I'm not shocked at all that a Ferrari salesperson would see two guys dressed like bums and assume they can't afford the car.

What you're describing is pretty typical for people who were raised poor and came into money. When you're broke for so long and then you can live like a pimp, damn right you're going to be happy and spend a bunch of money.

You must be either a Car Salesman or you sell Vacuums for a living. Trying to figure you out here. Or are you a Mormon that goes door to door trying to get people to convert in your classy suits. If so, just put on some shorts, head to the beach and enjoy life man.
