Customers can appear however they want. On any given day they may want to mitigate any misunderstanding about their financial status based on appearances, and they may not.

It happened to me once. I wanted to buy a Mitsubishi Eclipse. I was already sold before I walked in the dealer. This would have been the easiest sale that this jerk-off of a salesman would have had in his entire carreer.
I'm 6'3" and the Eclpse is a smaller car than I'm used to. I want to know if it is at least comfortable for me to drive. When I asked him for a test drive he flat-out refused. "It's a good car" was all he would offer up. I went to his manager and told him that he had an asshole for a salesman and walked out. I bought a Nissan instead and made a point of showing it off to the Mitsubishi salesman the next day. What an asshole. |

You sound so butthurt. Amount of time that salesman has thought about you today: 0 Now tell me, who won? |

Dressing nice and dressing rich are two very different things IMO... |
Been there many times. Walk in ready to write a check and pay for a vehicle in full and they were trying to get me to do a credit check just to take a test drive.
Dunno how many 'look down their nose' salespeople I've walked away from over the years. |

Stop dressing like you're poor then. Fuck, if I was selling a house and someone dressed like a baglady came to an open house, would I really spend much time trying to sell her on it? |

I was told recently by a girl I grew up with "Your mother always dressed you well". I guess it just stuck because I try to at least put on something decent when I leave the house. I'm still WAY under dressed by my mother's standards but dressing down means a shirt that's not a Tshirt and a pair of nice jeans.
I did get dissed by a car salesman because I drove up in my son's beat up 10 year old Maxima since I needed someone to drive me there so I could drive the new car home. But in Atlanta, there's another dealership right around the corner. Never felt the need to go back to the first dealer to rub their nose in it. NEVER had an issue with test drives. In fact, up here in the woods the dealers just throw you the keys and you drive it yourself. I've had them let me keep it overnight too. And who are all these people bringing suitcases with 10's of thousands of dollars in cash to dealerships?? I've never had an issue with them taking a personal check. Either way if it's over a certain amt ($9K?) they report it. Seems safer to carry a checkbook instead of cash. |
Ever thought that due to your not-quite-classy personalities, rather than what you wore, hinted to the salesman that you were a waste of time?
This thread is full of people who are the problem, not the car salesman. |
you want my sale, you better be sucking my dick. it's a buyers market, and i'm the one buying.

Ya... a well dressed webmaster is the exception

This goes back a few years when I was working in online gaming.
A friend of mine named Rob and I were out cruising. I had taken the day off b/c I accrued too much OT and opted for a couple lieu days. We went to the the Audi dealership to drop off his TT for yet another recall and we walked over to the BMW dealership to look at some special M5 he heard they had. I was wearing just some ratty jeans and a regular short sleeve shirt. My friend Rob was dressed in his usual summer attire, a wife beater, cargo shorts and flipflops. We walk in and head over to the where the M5 is in the show room. The doors are locked and nobody is coming up or giving us the time of day for 10 minutes. He looks over at the only sales guy not busy that's just standing with a coffee cup in his hand looking at us and and pretty much shouts "A little help here would be nice!". Everyone in the dealership just quiets down and starts staring at us. Rob then say "Oh right my bad", reaches in his pocket, takes out a tie and puts it around his neck and say "How about now?" The sales guy just turns around and sits at his desk. I just died laughing at this point. I was certain the cops were going to show up any minute. My buddy was mad at this point. Now when I tell you Rob is a smooth talker, he's a fucking smooth talker! He could go to Bestbuy and order a $200 13" tv and have them deliver it and set it up for free, that's how good he was. He already knew there was a good chance he wouldn't be taken seriously upon walking into BMW, so he purposely put a tie in his pocket just to say and do this. It didn't go quite as planned however, as he expected the sales guy to come over and at least say something. The receptionist looked like she was laughing at the scenario so we head over to her and my buddy asks if there's anyone that can help him outside of the "coffee cup douche over there". She said the other two sales people were currently occupied and before she could finish, he reaches down and grab out the wad of cash he had on him which was $20k. He plops $300 down and asks her to please have the owner come down here and its yours. She called the owner but insisted not taking the $300. At this point "coffee cup douche" comes over after seeing Rob put the money back in his pocket and asks if he needs some assistance with the M5. Rob looks at him and tells him "You're kidding me right? You had your chance and blew it. Here (he takes off the tie and gives it to him) you can have this and wear it when you explain to your wife why you're bringing home spam for dinner tonight" About half-way through him telling "coffee cup douche" this, the owner of the dealership came around the corner and saw him handing the tie over. My buddy then looks at the owner, shakes his hand while introducing himself politely and says "I have three requests: 1) I would like the keys for the M5 to look inside and take it for a quick test drive. 2) If I like it then I will put $20k cash down right now and bring the rest of the cash price we have negotiated on within an hour and 3) All the commisision goes to the receptionist." The owner chucked and said "With pleasure, let me grab the keys, a dealer plate and get the show door open and let's go for a ride." The owner personally drove us to get a certified check for the remainder of the purchase price Rob negotiated down, took us for lunch, threw in a ton of extra's for cleaning, scotchguarding, extended maintenance warrenty etc, and threw in a bunch of free swag from the parts store. The receptionist got the commission as requested and the owner even brought her in during the whole process to have her "learn the ropes". She ended up getting promoted a few months later and 'coffee cup douche' was let go. Unfortunately the car met with an unfortunate end a couple years later when an Escalade ran a red and t-boned it on the passenger side. |

but thats not dressed up enough... now i had to upgrade to dress shirt + jackets.. and this fits in the thread.. dont judge people based on how they r dressed.. just 'cuz im wearing polo shirts with jeans and diesel shoes doesnt mean i cant afford first class.. but somehow once i put on a dress shirt/jacket combo then all of a sudden i can afford it huh? lol anyway lately ive been dressing even nicer.. this is how the world works.. in panama, black people are low in social status, so you gotta dress nice so you dont get treated like crap.. People always seem to think im some drug dealer or pulling some '419 scams or some shit, so nowadays whenever im going anywhere i dress super nice.. it sucks but its life... When i started wearing the jackets and stuff customs in USA also stopped harrasing me.lol and they call it a random check huh? |

Ok, they call it "FIRST CLASS" Do you know what that means? Do you think maybe, JUST MAYBE, they'd want you to dress the part? Imagine if I decided that MY version of first class was my smelly, sweaty workout gear, cutting protein shake farts, and talking loud on my cel phone. Sure, I'd be sitting in first class, but sure the fuck not ACTING first class. That's the problem with first class. They should just be able to vote people out of first class so that first class remains for first class. If you and the other passenger saw me get on board the plane dressed like shit, they should be able to complain. Notice when you dress up, nobody questions you? Exactly. |
you know what is the worst thing about first class? fucking screaming babies. you spend all that money, and then you have screaming baby in your ear for 10 hours.
|
Yes, screaming babies should be thrown into the turbine

same story with the infinity I bought, I walked in looking like a college kid with hat shorts and tee got ignored, so I went across the street and bought a lexus sc430 instead and walked in the Infiniti showroom a week later asked for the manager and told him since he and his salespeople ignored me I got a lexus instead and I was planning on buying the infinit fx-45 and I would buy it at the next infinit dealer a county over.

I was going to buy my truck Z71 38K
I was going to different dealerships, so I was looking for my particular truck I wanted w/ the options I wanted.. So I was riding in my old whodew w/mud all on the car and shit. I didn't cut my fucking hair nor comb it.. Shit to add on to that I was getting out of my car putting my chair together. My own kind ''black folks'' wouldn't say shit.. So I went to texas the dealer was being aggressive so I cuss hiss hillbill ass out.. Then I went to houston one guy finally got everything I wanted and I gave him cash on site.. Now I go to dealerships when I get the urged and get by the fully loaded cars and hit my airbags on my truck so all the salesman come running thinking I want to buy a vehicle and when they get close enough I politely leave.. haha |
