:mad Someone hit my BMW today.

I went over to visit a former Adult.com employee, my buddy Tofu...

We hung out at his office for about an hour, and then I took him for a spin. When I got home, I noticed this damage to the right rear bumper. I called my girlfriend to tell her about it, and she said it sounded intentional... because I was parked 6 parking spaces away from any other cars. After she said that I thought "what are the chances?" So I looked at the doors, and sure enough... someone had keyed the right rear passenger door.

There was no note on the windshield.

Needless to say I'm pretty fucking pissed right now. There were no security cameras in this business park, and there were no cars around the BMW when I got in the car to take Tofu for a ride.

Who actually would think to do something like this on purpose?

I'm doing the report right now. Filing it under vandalism, because of the intentional nature. I'm really not looking forward to the expense of this raising the insurance premiums.

dude for that kinda damage dont file with your insurance company, heck i wouldnt even go to police.. go to a body shop and get a new back bumper and fix the door.. wont cost too much... will be cheaper than filing insurance..

last time i filed insurance for a small claim, i ended up getting a $400 hike for the next few years, plus it goes on record, might also go on carfax(mine did, )

so just drive to a body shop, fix it, move on

Very unlikely that someone would do it on purpose.

Probably someone damaged your car in an accident and took off.

no, go ahead and file your claim because its going to be costly to get it fixed right. if it was just a banged bumper then I agree let maaco or a little carsmetics place fix that, but if they keyed your doors too they're going to have to grind the damaged area down to basecoast, then wetsand and respray that ENTIRE side of the car and it not going to be cheap. if both doors are f'd up minimum for paint alone at a cheap shop is going to be 800 and you're probably gonna need a new rear bumper/valence. i hope thats not an /M. the downside too is you will notice the colormatch is never 100% in daylight even with the best bodyshops. sorry to hear about that man, the same thing happened to my mini years back when they first came out

nah dude, first of all i bet he has a deductible.. by the time he pays this, the hike in premium is not worth it.. TRUST ME, plus they report it AND it will likely go on carfax, so your car wont have a clean record anymore..

this will def cost under $2k to fix, i say pay cash and fix it.. will be better in the long run

and its not an //M cuz they have quad exhausts

The key job is about 1 foot of the right rear door. It's not as bad as it could have been. I'm super pissed with this situation though. I can't believe the balls the person had to do something like this.

It feels kind of like a "if I can't have it then you can't either" sort of thing.

dude dont involve insurance/police, ive been in the same situation with a car worth about the same as yours, and a damaged bumper...

i involved insurance, i paid ded of $500, they paid for damage, around $1,400 total..

then comes the insurance premium increase
then oh nice, carfax now has it listed..

oh nice, i need to sell it, and i have to explain to buyers that the damage was not serious, because all carfax lists is "back end damage" or some shit like that

just go fix it yourself

We might end up doing that. I have to look over the options. I can't believe I have to pay anything for someone else's stupidity though.

you have to pay for your deductible regardless, and also your premium will go up (cause even though its not your fault, you are high risk, since your car got damaged.)

you should talk to a couple body shops because the price & quality work can vary bigtime. Often shops will charge a lot less if its a cash deal & not insurance. Sorry you got porked. the bad economy brings out the worst in people.

Unfortunately Beemers are the most vandalised car brand because of the association with the people that normally drive them.

No offence meant, it's a common perception!

hes some advice from dealing with this...

1st take it to a few body shops and get a good quote. then have your insurance company pay up to $750 (as long as you live in the USA) as anythign after that will effect your rates. you are allowed by law $750 per year payout on top of your deductible without it effecting your rates.

if you have a $500 deductible, then have them fix a bunch of other shit too, but make sure the bill DOES NOT exceed $750 to the insurance company.

by the pics, and my avid watching of law and order, this is not vandalism, but rather the poor driving of a women... and by the big scratches, looks like an asian woman from new jersey

Thats nothing, I wouldn't even waste me time with filling a report or the insurance. You have to pay some fee anyway, then you can do it on yourself and don't make your insurance company to increase your payments. That can't cost more than $200. I once had something like that and didn't pay more. It was from parking, though.

I once had something like that and didn't pay more. It was from parking, though.
Had a little scratch myself a couple of years ago and that was a LOT less than the picture and ended up with $200 x 7 so I wouldn't count on that. For $200, do they even look at the car?

But you live in one of the most overpriced countries in the world. Even when buying a german car, I'm sure it costs twice as much in Norway, because of all the taxes and bullshit.

Who actually would think to do something like this on purpose?

jez bad

Seems rather strange that someone 'accidentally' scraped your bumper with theirs out in the ass end of a business park then got out of the car and put a 1 foot long key scratch in the door, no?

Why would someone waste the effort of getting out of the car to put a tiny scratch like that after scraping a bumper?
