How often do you watch the sun come up?

Every morning when I feed my dogs I step outside and basically watch the sun come up and it brings me resolve and encourages me to stay sober today and push on. How often do you watch the sun come up?

Over 4 years sober. I will never go back to the lifestyle of never seeing the sun come up. Every single day I wake is a fight against the past.

Aye. Not a day goes by where the past doesn't call, but I never give in. Been through some difficult stuff past few years, but never once gave in. People who still drink will never understand this daily fight, but I know I am winning. Lost many of my "friends" because I stopped drinking, I am better off without them.

Stand strong man.

But anyway, no need to dwell in the past. I am just thankful to have seen the sun come up on another day. The hope it brings is worth more than any gold of this world.

all the time. but mostly to beat the heat to go downhill biking. it's freaking hot here during the summer, and the only way to beat it is to be up by now, breakfast, and then bike out to the village by 9:30 am.

sounds very nice man. once our child is born and we spend a bit more time with my mom (as a grandmother) wifey and I will push off from this dock and set sail yet again West. Thinking about moving to Portland for a few years, or maybe forever, who knows which way the wind blows on that day? Have many friends there we wish to spend time with and do lots of outdoors stuff.

Fletch, you doing it alone? AA is not a bad thing at all and maybe you could watch the sun come up and just think how pretty it is and not about the past. just 2 cents from a guy who has not been there so I might be talking out my ass.

Good to see you posting again. I am sure I am not alone in wondering if there is an update to your story? Did you weather the crisis? Is your site totally done yet? Thinking of returning or opening another venture?

I went to AA meetings the first time i tried to quit drinking. They started praying, I wanted to walk out. That was in June 4 years ago. I fell off on my birthday and then drank on JUly 7th 2005. That was the last day I consumed alcohol.

Yes, I am doing it alone, I need not a god to help me with addiction. AA is way too religious for someone like me. My main problem with AA is you are supposed to swear you have no power over alcohol and that god is only way out. That goes against my enrtire philosophy of life. My WILL dictates which way I go., not giving in and reliquishing that power to some fictious lord.

ps i wsnt dwelling in the past. being CONSCIOUS of something is not dwelling. I am simply aware that I am only awake right now because I stopped drinking. There is a difference , at least in my mind... in the past I would already have a buzz..

I am thankful and aware.

not much to tell. i still push traffic, but am basically retired, all on cruise control. uws has been closed for some time. definitely not thinking of returning... i have a mainstream blog used mainly for bitching about local Whistler issues, other than that, just investments. i am in the process of moving to a beautiful pad in Fernie, BC, that's about it. just traveling, snowboarding, and downhill biking (with a bit of hiking and surfing thrown in for good measure). i got back from s.e. asia a couple of months ago (was there for 3 months with my girl and my cousin)... good times.

cheers

hopefully, as you put more years of sobriety under your belt, you will evolve to simply living life and not fighting demons from your past on a daily basis.

i recommend you to read the big book of aa. it's a quick read and can give you some great insight, since you are doing this alone.

bill w., the author, had many of the same views/traits as you.

I regret even mentioning now being aware of being sober this morning. I was contemplating my own success in sobriety, not "fighting demons" LOL

This thread was about the sun, I just happened to mention my sobriety, my mistake.

Back to the sun ;)

Since I have sleep issues, I am too often watching the sun come up because I haven't been able to sleep yet.

Sober 7 years myself. Since I was doing meth, I rarely missed a sunrise. In fact, when I wasn't sober, the sun rising was a bad thing. I thrived in the cover of night.

The irony of it all is that I am a true morning person. I function best when I get up early and have a nice long and productive day.

My internal clock isn't exactly synced up with my mind and the rest of my body.

Congrats on the 4 years. Keep pushing. Sobriety is the best thing in the world.

I only found success when I quit my old friends.

Watching the sun come up sounds more like a god thing than AA anyway. A reaffirmation of your life and positive outlook and all that jazz if you know what I mean. After all, mother nature was here before, and she'll be here after. If we're made in anyones image, it's hers. So it all actually fits naturally without some group trying to forcefeed.
To answer the question though, not in as long as I can remember really.
